    I think you can record from the analog an digital inputs simultaneously thus giving a total of four.

    @maltcus Not currently - I have a Line 6 HD500 that I use for guitar effects, so I'll be piping the L/R into the audio ins of the card (now that I understand the routing!). It's all solo recording so I don't need much in terms of i/o. Watched your vid on effects though and that looks valuable. I wasn't really intending use much but perhaps on vocals it would make sense to use the onboard compression? Pretty new to recording, so it's a learn by trial and error for me ;)
    Thanks again!

    its because the usb guitar is a audio input of its own. So in theory it would be like plugging in two different audio interfaces. You can use the 0404 card as the output but will not be able to use it as a input. In sonar change the input to usb guitar and output to 0404 card

    The EMU is good kit, thanks for explanation, a lot of people are put off by the complexity of patchmix, a pity as EMU would sell more cards with a more intuitive mixer.

    • @Alerity1

      Charles Lewis Unless you already own it, look elsewhere. I was using it successfully with Windows 7, using the "beta" driver and the latest Patchmix driver (note that the beta driver has an earlier date, but a later version number). Then in autumn of 2013, it stopped being heard by Skype and Audacity, with no changes in my system that I can discern (I've even tried setting it up from scratch on a brand new identical Win 7 computer -- it worked for one reboot, then Skype couldn't hear it again.) I've tried every configuration of hardware, software and patchmix, no luck. I can only guess that Windows 7 itself has changed somehow. Since the duplicate computer is a completely fresh install, my feeble guess is that a Windows update last fall doesn't get along with the ancient driver. A total shame -- the MicroDock has so many inputs and outputs and they're of such quality that it would probably cost $1,000 to piece together as much capability. Apart from relying on a defunct provider, my only reason for replacing it is that the effects don't work above 48kHz.

    with the 1212m you have more outputs so you can do more then one stereo out. Im using the 0404 which only have one stereo out and one stereo in. The inputs I can use as 2 mono inputs instead of 1 stereo input. The output can only be used as stereo. Djing with Traktor? Hell yea!

    I have the recording software that came with my Digitech rpx400, I believe it's called cakewalk, so I could send the output to cakewalk, to record straight to my computer? I believe I have several other recorders, just haven't tried any of them yet, but the EMU is basically a mixer with signal processing, sorta like a guitar processor?

    So basically you can input two devices, then record to a tape machine, or what ever recording device you have in real time? I'm assuming you can then upload that recording back to the computer, to manipulate inside the software, then re-record it on two more tracks along with whatever you input into those tracks? I'm just trying to make sense of the limitations set here. I was at first under the impression that you could record straight to the computer from the board, but you need a recorder?

    I got an EMU0404 back in 2004, and it still rocks in 2020. Have used it (in Cubase & Wavelab) under XP, Win 7 and intend to use it on Win 10. However, contemporary mobos no longer have PCI slots, so will need a PCI to PCIe adapter. Will update on my results. For Win 10 64bit, there is a special way to install adapted drivers. See on: www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=529349

    you could send the output of a keyboard, guitar, mixer, amp or any other source of sound in the inputs of your computer yes. The emu is a software mixer with effects. You can use effects on your guitar yes but more then just a guitar processor. I love it. wish E-MU would get on they're job and make something for windows 8

    You and dahonkie is right. The output is too hot only because I have the output volume is high. The meter you see on the input is before the compressor and not after. At the same time is there is not distortion. Then who cares what the meters says. For a video like this who cares. Tone you are right it is too hot and if I was record vocals for a song I would not have it up that way.

I get it setup to where PCI IN L goes to Asio 1/2 and PCI IN R goes to ASIO 3/4 but they still record in to Cubase as a single stereo track. Was just wondering if there was a workaround for this.

      +Gft Grafit Actually, Charles was using the Proteus skin, but a "Light Blue" version of it (it even says "Light Blue" on the left side of the control panel). I changed mine to the Proteus skin, and it looks more like what he had, but darker, and not as clean and sleek. I like the "standard" skin better than this dark one, but I'd rather have the "Light Blue" skin Charles is using.

      @stevehenshaw6326 8 лет назад

      +Alerity1 Sorry--I never got a notice that you replied to this.
      I have the same drivers you do. It appears Charles is using a "Light
      Blue" version of the Proteus skin, however. I don't have that choice
      with the latest drivers (and I don't remember it as an option when I
      used this with Windows XP, years ago).
      I guess I'll limp along with the E-MU interface until I finally have to
      move to Windows 10. I haven't heard of anyone getting the Windows 7 drivers to work reliably on Windows 10.

    You just proofed that you don´t have a cloue of what you are talking about. First of all he is obviously using a compressor. Than it´s just hitting the zero and most important is that you don´t hear any clipping. Adio is about the Sound, not about what you see, if you look too much you should shut your eyes while mixing and listening...

    It's 2014. Is anyone still using PatchMix/1616M with Windows 7, including Skype and Audacity? The ASIO channels still work on my system (e.g., with Pro Tools), but non-ASIO programs like Skype, Audacity, etc no longer hear my mic. They used to, but something has changed.

    • @jestarjokin
      @jestarjokin 10 лет назад

      Yes, I've been using a 1212m with a 1616m breakout box, and it's worked okay. Just make sure your sampling rate in PatchMix DSP matches the WDM device's sampling rate (Control Panel->Sound->Recording, select the E-MU device, Properties, Advanced, and alter the Default Format as needed). Also make sure your input routing in PatchMix DSP is correct.

    • @Alerity1
      @Alerity1 10 лет назад

      Thanks. Just finally noticed your comment. Drat, and I was finally coming to terms with moving on. I've done all that, tried all three drivers (although apparently the Beta driver is the correct one for Win7), set PatchMix etc as you describe (all at 44.1/24-bit), configured Skype Record to use the E-Mu (at the time, it was the only option shown), did another clean install of Windows (this time, unlike previously, it didn't even tease me), but Skype etc still don't see it. (ASIO compatible programs see it fine.) The only variable I can think of at this point is either you have not updated Win 7 in almost a year (unlikely) or you're using the PCIe card, which has a different driver. Till I go shopping for an equally fast, good and versatile replacement, I've resorted to using ASIO Bridge. It works, but is not a perfect solution. Wishing you continued good luck.
