HE THEN LOOSENED THE GENERATOR BASE BOLTS, ( MAINFRAME MOUNTED), THEN STARTED THE ENGINE, AND LET IT IDLE!!! WHEN THE GENERATOR FOUND ITS PLACE AND QUIT WIGGLING, HE TIGHTENED THE BASE BOLTS , AND SENT THE LOCOMOTIVE OUT THE DOOR!! LOL AFTER THAT ALL WHO WITNESSED THIS WONDERED HOW IT ALL ENDED!!! LOLOL

THIS WAS ON THE SANTA FE RAILROAD, AND IF IT LATER FAILED I COULD HAVE BEEN AT ANOTHER SHOP, AND THE SCREW UP UNKNOWN!!
We were aligning a 1200 HP engine to a centrifugal pump. The unit would fit in a 20' shipping container frame. As we had had over heating problems in the past, we hired a laser team. We aligned it by welding. When all was done, the it was aligned perfectly. I put a 1" hydraulic pancake ram under a corner. Two or three pumps and the alignment was out of tolerance. We solved the problem with u-joints.

What do you do if it’s impossible to get true alignment because of location restrictions, size of motor to “pump” etc..and other items around items that can’t be moved.
The first thing to understand is that this whole process is a nonstarter if the motor has insufficient power output to drive to pump. Make sure that's up to requirements first.

Cv joint in between the two shafts.
It’s never impossible to get correct alignment.

Apply the Chinese Concept
Run till it breaks and buy another one from China
Chinese = Cheap replacement
