Well, most pseudo intellectuals seem to be suffering from their own control issues. Any culture, is ever evolving. We are constantly borrowing ideas from other people and places and include them within our own. This happens everywhere. The audience is far more intelligent now, with all the online streaming. In the beginning they all said, they don't understand the nepotism debate and don't know how to quantify it. Its so bloody true when you listen to the rest of the conversation. Look at the things they said 1. Didn't have to go through the physical struggle because I am rich and i was born in the lap of the industry 2. Farhan got an opportunity to narrate a script to Aamir Khan, because he did not take his dads backing, but clearly he got the chance cos he was his son. I mean if you need to put it down and sound like they have nothing to do with nepotism, atleast get what you want to say right.
Understood nepotism is there but their attitude and denying opportunity or stifling people's creativity w.o privilege to fulfill their dreams is horrible. At least be humble and give good opportunities to others not mediocre to some people and the best to the star kids. Most of the time outsiders whether filmmakers, actors or writers aren't given any good opportunities or their talent is hidden b.c they can't be independent since they have to do what big producers and directors ask and get validated. If Karan johar has outsiders as director I don't remember one movie that's worthy instead they were just Karan johar clones.

Did you see years ago with anupama Chopra she had a show and zoya and kangana was there. At that time kangana wasn't vocal like now on nepotism or anything. She was nervous and couldn't convey her opinions then and zoya shouted at her while discussing why she would take katrina b.c she can pull in the audience and it's an investment. Kangana discussed her opinions in a calm manner but when zoya's attitude and her tone increased kangana looked like she was about to cry. Seems like over the years zoya and others attitude and being dismissive of others opinion had an effect on her. Now kangana is a different person like she was pushed to become ferocious.

The issue is not entirely about nepotism, as much as that is an issue in itself. It is about creating a toxic environment for outsiders so that they don't get opportunities. It is about constantly giving opportunities to non-deserving insiders while stealing opportunities from far deserving 'outsiders'.
What a panel it is. Was this really a debate or an event where Rajdeep showered praises on these panelists. Meanwhile Miss Zoya Akhtar people are angry about the fact that the barber who owns a successful barber shop isn't allowing any other barber to be successful. Despite of having a child who's not so good a barber he forces his son upon the people to get their hair cut from him at a much higher cost and people who could have been better barbers their shops are vandalized and their hands are cut by this Barber Mafia. 1. Giving reference of flow and strength of great rivers to justify the final fate of talent is void of any logic. And to label it philosophy. Philosophy needs to be rescued from these weaver of words to more logical foundation it essentially deserves.
2. To say that anyone talented most certainly gets success betrays lack of thinking. Volumes have been written by philosophers and other scholars on huge role that 'luck' plays in our life. The shallowness of this argument is visible when these panelists quote names of some talented outsiders to justify the nepotism-neutral nature of film industry. Daniel Kahneman has highlighted this fallacy. The question whether 'film industry is nepotism-neutral or not' can only be answered with statistics. This is not a question which can be answered by highlighting few cases, which can very easily be exceptions.
3. All the talk of 'talent' alone surviving in the industry is farcical. Firstly, all those who didn't get a break due to some insider getting the chance instead are missing data points. You would never know how talented they would have been. Secondly, it completely brushes aside the most fundamental measure of equity - i.e. equality of opportunity. It is beyond our imagination that in a country of 1.3 billion how many 'talented' individuals never got the first opportunity to be visible. Thirdly, and connected to first two points, audiences (actually entire humanity) are always victim of 'what you see is all there is'.

Darius Neidhart the argument is not stupid. Films are an extremely important part of Indian diaspora. We treat our stars are idols n follow them blindly which has in many instances been dangerous. Films/ serials are primary form of entertainment to more than half of Indian population coz most of the people don’t have elite club membership to entertain themselves with.. We start n end our day with cinema. So we need to know about the ppl whose work we are letting ourselves be influenced by. N regarding oscars, the whole debate is that we have lot of oscar worthy films which aren’t being sent due to internal politics n that’s why we have not won any oscar.

But I was totally floored by Zoya Akhtar's reply. Would a barber gift his shop to the most talented barber in the city or to his own son? If his son is a bad barber he will anyway ruin the buisness.
