I have visited many live concerts from Nana, and have seen her do this a cappella at the end two times, but nobody wanted to believe me. They all said, it´s impossible, you can´t hear her in such a big concert hall. I can still remember, it was over 30 years ago as I saw it for the first time, I was so stunned and had goosebumps all over. Her Angel-voice is so amazing. And she has turned 82 two days ago and still has her beautiful powerful voice. I loved her all my life, and I always will.
Thanks for writing that. You are very lucky. Nana Mouskouri is a singers' singer. A true songbird. There are many good singers, in many genres & types, but precious few are true songbirds like this. They are gifts from God, on temporary loan from the Heavenly choirs. And here Mouskouri does what only a true songbird would dare: she sings à capella, unaccompanied so that she sounds purer than usual, moving our hearts to tears.
Unbelievable! This woman really is what is meant by a DIVA. Thank you so much Nana for touching my soul time and time again, you earned yourself a place in my heart. With love.
Amazing to hear such a challenging song sung a cappella and unamplified--especially after Nana had already sung about 25 songs. I don't know of any other vocalist who could have done this. Bravo, Nana! For those people commenting and asking about/for a translation of the lyrics: "Fidaki" translates to "The Baby Snake." The song is a work of personification. In the song, a mother sings to her infant child and longs for the day when he will grow big and strong. The snake (infant) symbolizes the Greek rebellion which has already begun against the occupying Ottoman Turks. Hadjidakas was a musical genius.
Have seen Nana in 1983 in Rotterdam she performed a song without orchestra or microphone, it gave me goose pimps, what a devine voice so clear so pure, If you can perform that way than you can say I can sing! From thousant modern artist it wil be a miracle if one can sing without orchestra or voice mix panels
It takes a lot of guts and belief in your talent to do this... beautiful...see how she got the attention right from the first words. She would be a good teacher!

What is this song really talking about? I read something posted here about a little baby snake, but I would really like to know and see the complete translation,as I like this song very much, and Nana sings great at The Herod Atticus Concert in 1984. Thanks in advance if somebody can post it. Greetings from Monterrey,MEXICO. Thursday,May 08 2008 09:51 P.M.
This song is from a ballet called “The Cursed Serpent,” which portrayed the characters from traditional shadow puppets, which had been a way to satirize Greece’s oppressors. It is a metaphor for rising above oppression and growing into a strong nation.

She filled Herodes Atticus without the microphone several times that I know of.
