Yeah I hated his character. His character was a total pussy. He ran a Muay Thai club, and still somehow didn't know shit about Muay Thai... In fact, I don't think anyone involved in this movie including Refn knew anything about Muay Thai, because the one fight scene was terrible choreographed movie-jitsu. @@MrCholoPants3415 I think maybe you're missing the bigger picture in some regards as I think this really goes lengths to show how sexual abuse especially from a trusted family member can go lengths to psychologically damage somebody and this scene I think really tries to show that through not just spoon fed dialogue or narration but through character actions and presence 'Show don't tell' as they say in the movie industry. Kristin Scott Thomas is so freaking talented. She's English yet pulls off a wicked American mother from hell. I almost thought she was Cameron Diaz doing a bad mom movie. So great. Love this lady.
Julian just sits there in silence while his mother figuratively castrates him. Mai at least kind of stands up for herself and it seems like Julian's mom respects that so she lays off Mai.
