Sound diffuse 6 time faster under water so it will sound difficult to actually « capture » from where it’s from but appart the fact that the guitar is supposed to be played « empty » to diffuse the sound and that it will sound muddy otherwise there are no reason playing guitar underwater shouldn’t work
I went snorkeling in the Molokini crater in Maui in January when is whales season and even thought I didn't see any whale while we were snorkeling (only while we were on the boat) but when I got home and I checked on the videos underwater I was surprised many had the whales calling sound! So we couldn't hear or we didn't even know the whales were close while we were snorkeling but my undercamera caught all their sounds. Amazing and very cool!
sound is funny. it travels through matter. i dont need to explain molecules to you(hopefully). sound basically works by a molecule hearing a sound, and telling the others around it. but every time a molecule tells its friend the sound, it gets a little bit worse. so air molecules have big gaps between them. so a molecule travelling to tell its friend takes a while, but there arent many molecules in the way so it gets to its desired location much slower but have traveled much less molecules. so, thats why sound travels faster in water than air but sounds worse in water
You should try it with a microphone actually making contact with the guitar so that it can pick up the vibrations better, someone could make an FX pedal out of the sound
