Yup. Well for instance in X-ray usage, lead is used to block/reflect X-rays and this giving no image. Only much higher doses can penetrate the lead but that would also make it impossible to view the card
I don't personally see CT scanning being an issue outside of the high end sealed vintage market. Its an incredibly expensive way to find out what is in your pack, Yes you get to keep it sealed to sell if it is nothing great. The issue is people will simply not buy sealed because of the associated risk. This reduction in demand will lower the price of sealed making the CT scanning less profitable ultimately reserving it to only the highest end or maybe even just dyeing off as a gimmick.
Id love to hear a video from you about where to spend your money. Like a breakdown of the best purchases for investing using $50, $100, $250, $500, or $1000. I'm always unsure of where to put my money when trying to plan for a comiccon event.
Crazy that 2003-2007 was the "ghost era". That's the most nostalgic er for me as thats when me and my kid brother collected the most. I loved the ex era its crazy how unpopular it was lol
Yeah, the fakes are getting pretty dayum good. Got scammed and didnt even know til somone told me about the light trick and looking at the back of the card.... but once those 2 are solved..... yeah that is going to be crazy
I would LOVE to hear your thoughts and comparisons on the price, quality, and longevity of investing in PSA 10, CGC pristine 10, or BGS 10/Black labels!
More collectors, increased supply, ever changing landscape? That’s been the case since the beginning. Market is cyclical but patience is key. If you’re a patient and wise sealed collector. You will make money. It’s that simple
I get how the resale value of sealed booster packs will be affected by the CT scanning but how will it actually affect TCG companies? You still need to buy the packs to scan them.
HRO did this a few years ago. Every physical card has a unique QR code for you to "own" the card digitally. First saw it at SDCC a few years back n now see the DC collection at Target and Gamestop. It's really cool cuz when you scan a card it shows who owns it and ya know it's real. Win win.
6:30 This sounds like what the NFT project HRO has done with DC cards where you get the physical and digital version of the card from scanning a QR code on the back of the card
100% TCG devs will adapt and adopt blockchain, anything physical can be duplicated and impossible to verify, at least with digital there's a chance. (sweet akcb pfp right there mate)
This was always one of the legit use cases of NFTs but nobody wanted to hear it even a couple of years ago because of how man scam projects were running.
The only thing about nft is that when masses are in crypto then nft will be mass adopted. But i think it will come in the near future in maybe 5 yrs time.
It’ll be super interesting to see how they “cheaply” make the CT scanner obsolete. I really think that physical cards will eventually phase out, but pokemon pocket will tell us a lot like you said. Love the discussion! PS 10/10 thumbnail 🔥
Part of what makes Pokemon investing what it is is what is often mentioned is the nostalgia factor. The digital thing is more of a gimmicky thing that most kids who drive the whole hobby will not gravitate toward or understand. Nothing compares to opening packs and for adults grading certain cards.
Imagine using a ct scanner to confirm for example that a moonbreon is in a pack. You gift that pack to a friend for a birthday or special day and get to see the amazement in their eyes as they rip that pack and love you for that gift
That’s a really good input I never thought of it that way. I saw a lot of suggestions coming from Pokémon world championship that the new TCG pocket is going to be focused on collecting rather actual TCG battles
Hey, been watching your videos now for alil over a month. Always good and pretty engaging content man. You'll be at 100k subs within a year or two easily.
With regards to physical having a digital counterpart, have you heard of Altered TCG? For what I understand about it, it sounded like you were describing that TCG.
Great vid! But just need to say Sony Ericsson did adapt, just not with smartphones. they are now just Ericsson and one of the leading manufacturers of technology for your phone reception
So now trading cards are going digital 😂 First it’s games, music, movies and all media. And now TRADING CARDS!? Dream business model for them. “You will own NOTHING and be HAPPY.”
I don't think it is a good idea to link physical and digital copy. if someone linked the physical copy and sell the card, could the 2nd guy also get to scan the copy? if yes, it might overflow the digital market with a lot of copies of the card. if not then the 2nd guy will be out of luck for it. There is also an issue where people can just go to a card shop and scan the card for digital copies.
Price is going to go up on everything in order to combat CT scanning by adding materials to help stop it we will pay the difference thanks to a few dbags
Why is everybody so scared about ct scanning? The Company can sell the boxes there own without a seller ik between and the boxes will not be scanned. The only people which have to Adept are people who hoards boxes as an investment. Maybe you switch singles and thats it. dont know why there is this amount of panic about this.
6:50 We’re talking crypto level encryption for digital cards right? I think Pokémon pocket will be the next iteration of something like that on the way. I’ve enjoyed playing tcg online and tcg live, looking forward to pocket and im excited to see a digital trading world be created. I figured nft’s were gonna be it, but you can just mint the same piece to oblivion right?
Could be. I’m not sure I don’t think it’s anytime soon, however it certainly could be something that happens in the future given the need for innovation!
You mention baseball cards being as popular as ever... However i think one needs to consider what is going on with the value of baseball cards during the junk wax era. They are worth nothing basically due to over supply during that era (late 80s-90s). We should exercise caution with pokemon cards possibly falling into that era as well. With the printers going crazy and people buying up all supply it is possible those investments wont be worth as much as everyone is thinking they are going to be. Sorry, i hate being the bear in this situation. I wouldjust say to exercise caution. If the cards go to zero will you still be happy with most of your collection? If not then i would say look for a part of the hobby that would bake your collection mostly happy even if the values went to zero. For me that is mostly japanese cards. But for someone else that may be PC etbs, etc.
They just need to place a material on the packs that when irradiated changes colors. Therefore signifying which packs have been CT scanned.
Good Idea if it doesn't cost much to do so. Maybe a text layer that gets activated with the radiation.
The problem is customs.
Radiation is everywhere

They could attach sharks with laser beams on every pack
Lmao
Video idea: The current state of Japans economy and its affect on the Pokemon Company.
Will do, thank you!

I know, however it does contain some of the most popular cards of all time! I have a video about this coming out soon.
Yeah, the fakes are getting pretty dayum good. Got scammed and didnt even know til somone told me about the light trick and looking at the back of the card.... but once those 2 are solved..... yeah that is going to be crazy
They are becoming a problem, though that's why education is important in determining reals vs fakes.
@@phillips.collectibles I agree. Ty.

I am puzzled by the new themes and developments in Pokemon collecting and knew I needed some Philips perspective

@@datguycynnx thank you my friend! Good to see another physical/digital collector in the wild :)

Indeed they will.
Only way to verify the cards accurately.
It's going to be wonderful to see.

Good point! I'm excited for Pokemon Pocket.
Haha thanks, I enjoyed making it!
Sealed never failed till this day! But i do not invest all in pokemon, its too risky for me.
Sealed is the GOAT!
You know who’s going to pay for the adapted changes to tcg? The consumers 😢

There's a red dot on your black jacket I thought was my screen pixel issue lol
Great content, ty. And I think that the cards companies will adapt and cover the cards or the booster itself that will block the scan.
I appreciate the level of preparation each of these video needs and of course their content, keep it up!
I’m hoping they take the CT scan seriously. I feel it’s a short period of time where the price will make sense to scan modern booster boxes.
Nice work phillip
As soon as you mentioned the words "digital wallet" and "code to prove ownership" i knew exactly what you were talking about haha
I love these videos. Thank you for your work.
man that thumbnail goes hard lol. Awesome work

Dream business model for them. “You will own NOTHING and be HAPPY.”
Imagine the price for servers and encryption just for a pokemon card and the effect to the environment
Curious to see how TCG pocket plays into all of this. I’m excited for it but we don’t know when it’s releasing
Line the boxes with lead or some type of metallic film problem solved

The digital copy thing already exists. Just not mainstream yet
The only good thing about ct scanning is to see if the box is fake because of scammers repacking boxes
But even then someone could lie about it being fake and swap them. Cant really win
That was a nice and simple watch to start the morning. Good stuff, Phil!
Thanks for that! Thanks for tuning in.
Have you not heard about the new app that’s coming out?
Of course I have, I spoke about it within this video.
Pocket next big thing 😱
Thanks for the video 💫
Appreciate that Viggo!

Wow feels illegal to be this early
You are like one of my favorite Pokémon RUclipsrs btw congrats on 10k subs you helped me into the Pokémon community =)

Cool 🆒 video man 🧍♂️
keep up the great content brotha
Adapt or die indeed
man tried so hard to avoid the use of the word nft
professional yapper
Yeah i like the idea of a corresponding NFT that is used as a proof if purchase or title
You described NFTs coming to pokemon and im all for it
They ruined Yugioh. Used to be a die hard and they added in way to much. It's horrible now.
First to comment 😊
Digital pokemon cards on the blockchain? Yes please. 😎

2025 is gonna bring some propper good sets‼️💯💥 This year has been mid..📉
So, Pokémon card NFTs.
That’s literally what you described.
