    Im only 2min into the video and i wanna say this… why pay $800 for a watch when you can get the phone for the same price, and IT DOES MORE…. After finishing the video i agree with ur sentiment, i bought the iPhone mini because i have an ipad so no reason to spend xtra money on simply having a bigger screen, BUT the watch cant replace the phone till it has a flashlight and a camera [for scanning items not photos] and it has to at least last 18hr with heavy heavy usage, meaning playing music, using gps nav, and maybe watching a video voicemail, after that im all in

    • @BrandonTalbot
      @BrandonTalbot  Год назад +8

      You make a great point Maurice - the phone does do more. But the reasons (which I’ll explain in the follow up video) I want to use a watch instead is BECAUSE it does less. The phone is a trap for me, and I need to be on it less. The watch doesn’t have some features but still gives me the level of connection I need without all the connection that isn’t serving me. And just so you know, it definitely can handle the heavy usage. Especially on low power mode. All of the things you mention, streaming music, gps, cellular on all day, multiple workouts a day, Apple Pay, calls, texts etc.. I can do for 2 days before it needs a charge.

      Can you do an ecg on the phone?? The watch pulls you away from the screen life, which most of us are guilty of. I average 7 hours a day screen time. Now I have a ultra I average 2-3 hours at night doing the things I couldn’t do on the watch and checking socials. It’s drastically improved my day to day life!!! I love it and the $800 dosent bother me one bit!!

I left my phone at home when I went for a walk to test it out a bit and the only thing I missed was not having my phone with me to take pics of the pretty things I saw along the way. This was so good, thanks dude! Love your energy. I started following the same lifestyle as you a few days ago after I bought my watch. No looking back. It feels so good to be completely free of distractions. And I end up doing most of the things I would do on a phone, on my laptop anyways. So usually in the morning and at night do I get to all those items. But it's great because I end up not wasting my time on it during the day, plus leaving those activities to the laptop discourages wasting time as I don't really scroll social media or anything on my laptop.

    I have an Apple Watch SE with cellular, man does cellular makes a big difference, now I don’t have to remember to pick my phone when I go out, or fear of forgetting my phone in random places, to me cellular is the way to go for my next Apple Watch, although my first Apple Watch was a series 1 Apple Watch, but it was too limited for some thing for example no gps, no music streaming even if it was connected to WiFi, although I could download music for offline playback, the other area I saw much improved was that I went from having 8 gb to 32 gb on my current Apple Watch SE.

    Hi, I have a 13 Mini (256GB) and have decided to stick with it! My new Ultra helps to reinforce that decision. While I can’t completely replace my iPhone with the Ultra, it does make it more likely that leaving the Mini home depending on what’s going on. Run up to the store, don’t need the phone. Going to see a friend, don’t need the phone, etc. There are times where I can see that the Watch is all I need. If anything is apt to be upgraded, it will be my Watch not my iPhone. I have already reduced my iPhone to pretty much just a phone with a bunch of Apps. There are things that the Watch just can’t do by itself, like using banking and credit card apps. There’s no way to do FaceTime for security. There are other functions that make the iPhone necessary. However, there are times and situations where all I need is my Watch and the Ultra just shines at that point.

    I use the iPhone camera too much to leave it at home. Sending friends screenshots, photos at accident scenes, photos/scanning of documents, price checking, QR code menus, photos of my boo boo when I fall running, pic of a product I want to research later, photo of weird street performer, just too many things I’d want a camera for. 📸

    I've delivered a thumbs-up, however, I'm still racking my somewhat flawed brain. Why limit the experiment by triggering power mode and limiting calls? Surely normal usage would have been much more useful for us, your loyal viewers. Great style and commentary 👌

    • @BrandonTalbot
      @BrandonTalbot  Год назад +1

      Merson you make some very valid points about the experiment and if I can be honest with you, the original direction of the video was just going to be about low power mode, but I realized that it was super boring, so I reshot the talking head stuff and went with this faster paced video about just leaving the phone at home. I was planning on doing a video like this anyway but I’m going to make a follow up as to WHY you should not just how you can.

      Merson just an fyi, a totally typical day: calls, texts, two workouts, Apple Pay, music being streamed for at least 90min, and one or two routes will give me 2.5 days when not on low power mode. That’s while I’m working from home and cellular isn’t being utilized.
