This is a testament to the power of speech skills. There is no way he would have been so successful as either a pimp or a public figure without this absolutely FLAWLESS vocal delivery. He started out from nothing and here he is being interviewed and TAKEN SERIOUSLY by the most square, establishment interviewer ever. It's that voice. The tone, the timing, the inflection, it's all a masterclass in how to talk and make people want to keep listening.
Yessss!!
I really appreciate the insight expressed by your commentary. It is a true power.
mystique is everything
Looking like concept MF Doom

Wow. His level of articulation is immaculate. He has a powerful demeanor with a monotone voice that commands attention from everyone.
that's was being a pimp is all about
@@kwader_1404 I'm already knowin that's why ya boy taking notes

Na he just a dumb ass

Kodak was also a pimp

Iceberg slim is one of the best to ever put pen to paper .
Bigsneaker Tees my brother just gave me his first book tonight, im a few chapters in and im hooked!!
Bigsneaker Tees the man knows his adjectives!
Donald Goins is another author to check out for those that dont know him... another former street hustler an drug addict...

I read his book. His off the charts IQ was very revealing.

Hugo Nongbri hell yea lmao
Hugo Nongbri that's initially how I found out about him lol
Naw bitch i read
He didn't write the first one it was written by a ghost writer based on his life annd he adopted the prose
This got recommended to me the day after I saw that interview lol
“I am of superior intellect” - Iceberg Slim
read this book. read a lot of books in my life. he was one of the best writers I’ve read personally
A very clever man. I believe that he went on to be a salesman, something that I suppose was natural. Not always a nice man but a smart man and part of history.
This is the mask I need to fight off this virus. !
-Who else here in #2020 ?😩🗣💗
Me girl
Hey
Lol, this mask dont cover the right area's
Omg 😩😩😩
No doubt
1:28 you can tell he was about to say "one *trick* pony" but caught himself
LOLLLLLL
Haha I notices he gave off some stupid demeanor but now I know why he changed his mood when I caught that I might have said something.
John Gleeson He didn’t want to say “trick”
He feared the backhand lol
His magnum opus "Pimp" is really a terrific read. A literature professor at the Univ. of Texas just came out (2015) with a biography of Iceberg Slim (Robert Beck) that's absolutely fascinating.
Only positive thing about it is how it shows ppl how the world works,, how most ppl are just pimping someone else in some way . So ppl can be aware of it. But glorifying pimpin is foolishness
@@solarpanel8195 I've not read pimp, but the Wikipedia article says that in writing the book, a conscious aim was not to glorify his former life. And in a review of his record reflections, "Valdivia praised the record for 'the mixture of street smarts and the intellectual and emotional depth shown here' , which, he said, was often lacking in Iceberg Slim's followers." given this It feels inaccurate to say that Slim's work glorifies pimping. It would be more accurate to say that people glorify Iceberg Slim.
@Belarion A.D. It's awful. Anything that seems the slightest bit threatening or off-putting to anyone is immediately deleted/cancelled.
How much of it is true? Has anyone checked his story?
@@CounterfactualAmericanMusic A lot of it definitely has the ring of truth to it. Sure, he probably embellishes a little bit here or there, but on the whole, it's pretty darn accurate from what I can tell. Definitely give it a read.
This man shows you how to incline your minds strength and how to control your emotions where they will alwayz be a benefit to you! If you are able to read between the lines of his experinces! Only if i think, you are a natural with having a lil bit of will power and a lil bit of gift of gab! Best idealogy and game in life control and have in order what you can't see and touch physically!Cause life is what You make it and it's all in the head!
tnelsn2171 💯💯 I agree
His voice is golden
I'll be damned, this ain't no coincidence that I just started reading his book PIMP & RUclips recommended his video to me some days later 😩
Same!
They're watching you Neo...
Follow the White Rabbit
Reading it now
why do I feel like this interview was the basis for some boondocks and chapelle skits lmao
He used to sneak away and secretly read books in the library, which is why he had such a vast vocabulary. Everyone can learn from him.
This dude is like the 1940s gangster version of Darth Vader.
i read all of his books and still have them.Donald goins too, great writer!
I remember Joe P. And his programs were legendary now, because he had the kind of interviewees on that most programs would never let on their show , they were too hard core and back then when you were not allowed to curse and everything on TV was mellow and censored, back then Howard Stern would be considered too controversial, and Joe loved to get the guests riled up and get their real nature to come out. The way Ice Berg is talking is in no way the way he normally talked, but that was TV back then.. This really brought back memories, and if I remember right Joe had a wooden leg or something like that, I do not remember how he lost it. His show because of its content was on really late at night. I was not allowed to stay up that late and because of the guests he had my mom never knew I would sneak down to the TV and watch.. But seeing as this was not a full interview I do not know if was a good onr or not, but if you are a young person this shows you the language and how you had to control yourself to be on TV at that time...
Dam, I wonder what Slim would think about backpage
Iceberg Slim had an IQ of 170, a very smart man. So sad he went down the track he did. Could've been a doctor or a Lawyer. His book Pimp: Story of Iceberg Slim is an awesome read. Recommend it for anyone.
smoothcollected But dropped out.
Thomas Holden send a link bruv.
heyitsablackguy another lawyer? a doctor? Naw you got the game fucked up, The world needed Iceberg Slim the way he was, not no sucka.
heyitsablackguy book and street smart...The white man don't want blacks to be book smart because he want them(us) to be pimps drug dealers athletes entertainers prostitutes. Why do you think the GPA is now 3.0 and SAT scores is 700 to get into major colleges?
Well you can subtract about 100 IQ points for that choice of mask.
Iceberg was an extremely intelligent human
Trick Baby, West Philadelphia 52nd St.
One of the best series of books I have ever read.
Cool, would love to see the rest of it!
1:30 he almost said one trick pony and probably thought I can't say trick to a pump on white tv lol
Someone’s has to have the full interview
Smart interviewer. He would have caught bows if he called Slim a "one trick pony". 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Trick Baby is a really good book. I learned a lot from it.
I am here because of Chapelle and listening to the audiobook on Iceberg Slim s life story.
DONT LET KANYE WEST SEE THIS MASK …..
too late
See they gave good interviews back than. Imagine Bill O'Reily doing this interview.
I mean, Bill O'Reilly is terrible, but so is this guy. He talked more than the person he was interviewing.
Edward Rhodes Did he? Interviewer seemed fine and it's not his fault if Iceberg Slim gave a couple brief short answers.
O'Reily is a horrible interviewer.
it would have been bad, with O'Reilly interrupting the guy at every second and talking over him trying to correct him "Sir, no, sir, you know that blond and blue-eyed would qualify as white, not black"
Bill is a douchebag. He'd have turned it into an anti Obama tirade or a pro MAGA dumbshittery
His voice immediately gave me chills. Creepy!
How??
@@Lott0Jay it’s so monotone it’s a little bit eerie i suppose.
Bro was ahead of his tyme looks like us here today during and after the pandemic 😂😂
Trick baby was made into a movie , there is really people like that in Philadelphia. It's an unreal place.its all accurate account.
@glitchnoise He was the worlds best selling black author selling over 6 million books. Extremely talented. He also lived through and told of experiences that virtually no one survives, and became a positive human being from being a monster.
I have pimped my pen and she is number one in my stable

I pimped my pen on cold Michigan Nights...
good old Joe Pyne! He was good for a laugh everytime - his interview with Frank Zappa is a masterpiece
Iceberg Slim you are my favorite author of all time! I saw a documentary called American Pimp and one of the pimps actually mentioned the book by Iceberg Slim and how some real pimps used it as a beginner's guide to pimping. I want to read all his books . Iceberg is the Man!
He is not the man, he is a terrible human being
If you actually read the book you would know it's to get people to not do what he did
He is not the man, he was a vile human being. He abused, manipulated, and coerced woman. It’s very telling of what kind of person you are to be calling such a man “the man”
When he said Blue I knew it was gonna be cuz he was Wesley Snipes level dark
Slim was so slick ,way ahead of the game as usual it's 1968 and slim predicts corona virus look at the mask . 😎👌🏿😎
That is honestly the creepiest looking mask I could ever conceive of...stuff of nightmares.
He probably did that on purpose
Cant even see his teeth ! He wasnt playing about his privacy! 😍😍 they tried it he blocked em and still legendary!

Just finished shetani’s daughter I just loved the foreward by Justin Gifford . Can’t wait to read more of the legendary I.S. books it’s a shame he died broke smh these publishing companies sure do know how to railroad 🛤 you. His daughters were beautiful.
Ummm ... He claimed to want to show his “appreciation” to his mother for not abandoning him. She sends him to school. He becomes a vicious pimp; admits to dehumanizing, demoralizing and utterly destroying any woman (probably teenaged) he could; tossing them when they lost “value.” He dies penniless.
Wow, his Mom must have been so proud. If I could squeeze out a tear, it would be for Her. (He must have missed “Bad Karma 101” in that one semester at Tuskegee.) 🙄
So this is where Mr Whitefolks from the American Pimp documentary got his name from.
It was Pimps Up Hoes Down. However, there are 2 well-known PimPs in the lifestyle by the name "whitefolks." The individual you're referring to has passed on sometime mid 2000s. The other is still around
why are all these people lowkey complimenting him and not bringing up what a horrible person he was? It doesn’t matter what great of an author he was or that he became a salesman. You shouldn’t be looking up to someone like this which is what I’m seeing in these comments.
Have you read his story
Say the same for your favorite president, or even a family member. Everybody who is somebody has a story
I'm reading the book PImp now interesting
fascinating
it's an incredible book you'll learn so much from it
This guy is awesome. Would have liked to have seen the entire interview. I heard that Iceberg Slim was an influence on Donald Goines and that's how I found this video.
i read every one his books!!
why? what do you read?

His memoir is one of the best I've ever read
THANK YOU FOR POSTING!
His voice sends chill down yours but it’s so persuasive and comforting. Makes you think of all for one on My hero academia
They made a movie about this story called Trick Baby
So THIS is where Eddie Murphy got that Saturday Night LIVE skit from!!!
After reading pimp, and hearing how articulate he is here, it’s a shame Iceberg couldn’t have put his wit to better use
He did when he became an author of many books.
Iceberg should of been a politician or lawyer
Why so many Black men thru out the years, no matter their occupation seemed to have to sit down and explain theirselves to white men????
Before the ski mask... 😂 Looking like a electrocution helmet 😂
4 real tho. RIP to all the Mac's 💯✌️
Heavy interview .
they got a movie about whitefolks; apparently they didnt want to call him that though...the rest of the description matches what Iceburg just said

Reading all books. This man was psychotic.
Who remembers master P wore a mask like that back in the 90's? Now i know where u got it from
As well as Ghostface Killah

Great man? Would you let him pimp you? Girl please respect yourself and get some real men as role models as Jesus Christ :)
"iceber slim was a truly great man."
And it doesn't bother you that he used torture and brutalise scores of young women?
ya'll soft. Life is nitty gritty. Beck reformed himself and became a writer.

I’ve seen other interviews w Slim, this voice sounds completely different
White folks had me dying 😂
i heard about this guy from dave chappelle
Very interesting video
I got the interview off Amazon. Robert Beck explains a common street scheme called The Pigeon Drop and I must say it’s very confusing the way he tells it.
He saw covid coming
Why is he wearing my grandma's girdle over his head. Lol
shame you didn't just put up the full interview and instead we gotta "buy" it on a website that doesn't even exist
Joe Pine was the coolest! I used to watch him back in L.A. in the 60's
Now black dynamite makes sense
Where the heck is the rest of it?!
He’s a very intelligent man.
You can stream it on Amazon. But the text is still all over the screen.
Dude doesn't know that Iceberg is playing him

Trick Baby was a really good book. I haven't seen the movie.
The movie was filmed in 1972. The actors were Kiel Martin and Mel Stewart. Blaxploitation.
New documentary "Iceberg Slim - Portrait Of A Pimp" coming out now featuring Ice-T, Too Short, Bishop Don Magic Juan and more.
ok i understand the concept of concealing your identity but what's with the ear flaps??
Bring out The Gimp!
I wonder if Slim was Quentin Tarantino's inspiration for the character (?) in Pulp Fiction. Everyone knows Tarantino is a huge blackploitation film afficionado.
