    This is a testament to the power of speech skills. There is no way he would have been so successful as either a pimp or a public figure without this absolutely FLAWLESS vocal delivery. He started out from nothing and here he is being interviewed and TAKEN SERIOUSLY by the most square, establishment interviewer ever. It's that voice. The tone, the timing, the inflection, it's all a masterclass in how to talk and make people want to keep listening.

    His magnum opus "Pimp" is really a terrific read. A literature professor at the Univ. of Texas just came out (2015) with a biography of Iceberg Slim (Robert Beck) that's absolutely fascinating.

      Only positive thing about it is how it shows ppl how the world works,, how most ppl are just pimping someone else in some way . So ppl can be aware of it. But glorifying pimpin is foolishness

    • @FirstLast-gm9nu
      @FirstLast-gm9nu 3 года назад +3

      @@solarpanel8195 I've not read pimp, but the Wikipedia article says that in writing the book, a conscious aim was not to glorify his former life. And in a review of his record reflections, "Valdivia praised the record for 'the mixture of street smarts and the intellectual and emotional depth shown here' , which, he said, was often lacking in Iceberg Slim's followers." given this It feels inaccurate to say that Slim's work glorifies pimping. It would be more accurate to say that people glorify Iceberg Slim.

    I remember Joe P. And his programs were legendary now, because he had the kind of interviewees on that most programs would never let on their show , they were too hard core and back then when you were not allowed to curse and everything on TV was mellow and censored, back then Howard Stern would be considered too controversial, and Joe loved to get the guests riled up and get their real nature to come out. The way Ice Berg is talking is in no way the way he normally talked, but that was TV back then.. This really brought back memories, and if I remember right Joe had a wooden leg or something like that, I do not remember how he lost it. His show because of its content was on really late at night. I was not allowed to stay up that late and because of the guests he had my mom never knew I would sneak down to the TV and watch.. But seeing as this was not a full interview I do not know if was a good onr or not, but if you are a young person this shows you the language and how you had to control yourself to be on TV at that time...
