My mom was telling me there was this doctor who had a lion back in the 70's when I was a knee high and other people would never go near it.. Here I am of course in the cage with the thing trying to feed it she says her heart stopped until the big thing took the food and started licking me. She said it got out once, someone complained and the towns people all hunted it down and killed it even though it didn't hurt anyone.. It just got out. But as my mom says, this lion was huge.

@@evanlecours5612 Agreed, apparently there’s a tactic for each type of bear you encounter: play dead for a grizzly, and pray to God if it’s either a black bear or polar bear
UPDATE: If it’s a black bear, realistically you can get away from it by asserting dominance (E.g., yelling at it, slowly backing away, throwing rocks at it) - it should leave you alone and flee. Just try not to be too aggressive or too quiet around it, otherwise it’s animals instincts are going to detect you as their next meal (especially if food has been scarce that time of the year).
Don't go hiking in bear country with small kids. Foolish parents.
Aaaand this why I dont hike. Heard that fear in her voice when he asked if we could play dead. That scream and then calm as she realized she was talking to her baby. Glad they are okay.

Glad it ended safely for everyone, including the bear. “Can we play dead now?” had me laughing but also shows that they did great at keeping the children calm and not panicking during the encounter. @@jamescool2243 That is the right thing to do if you are dealing with a brown bear. For a black bear the best thing to do would be to get away but if that isn't possible it is better to try to scare it off/fight back. If it's a polar bear the best thing to do is probably just accepting death.

This is my masculine’s story. He finally walked away from that and has made his way to me. Most importantly, he is working on his self love and rediscovering himself. The parents handled this situation very well, keeping as calm as possible for the benefit of their children and yelling and making noise. At least the bear was a ways away, although, yeah, still a bit too close for comfort.
