The Icarus analogy goes a bit deeper than that, kind of comparing the people who gave him his augmentations to Daedalus, who made Icarus’s wax wings, and whether or not it was their right to change the gods’ designs. Can’t wait for a playthrough if you decide to do it, one of the OG cyberpunk/cybernoir games.
the Icarus analogy in this game was made by people who suffered brain damage in high school world lit 101😢its really some of the most embarrassing and insulting (and metaphorically obtuse) bits of writing ive seen in games
i think its a dream, he lost his arms.. and was about to die, but they saved his life and gave him augmented arms.. he was just about to fly to heaven but was brought back.. u can see the wings burn off and it looks like he has no arms while he is falling
You've got to play this Meg. This game is just amazing, the atmosphere, the ambience, the music, the underlying themes, they are so relevant especially in our current world.
Fun fact these games are actually a prequal to the original game released back in 2000. Even though the first game is set decades after the two games you watched in this video the first game has a much more retro 1990s/2000s futuristic feel so a whole different look and feel in it's tone, music and art direction not to mention alot of Matrix vibes inspired by stuff like Grant Morrisons The Invisibles comics. While the prequals go for a more modern day renaissance look and feel and a much warmer tone with alot of orange lights and colours. The original game had a colder feel both in it's UI and world something I noticed with alot of games like the X-COM DLC and Mass Effect of course how the first game was more blue in tone and the sequels more Orange. Timeline. Deus Ex: Human Revolution - *2027* Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - *2029* Deus Ex - *2052* Deus Ex: Invisible War - *2072*
Yeah I wonder why the deus prequels, human revolution and mankind, took a couple of decades before the original. It should have started in the late 2030s to close the gap to close the gap much earilier. If the next game comes out, and it takes place, lets say, in 2030, that is a 22 year gap between deus ex 1. Its insane.
@@hackerman5207 depth in this context doesn't just apply to the whole conspiracy theory, illuminati, etc side of the story. Even if one wasn't into that stuff, the franchise still offers an interesting exploration into the ethics of certain areas of technological advancement, and how far can we push certain frontiers and still be "human". A debate on the ethics of human augmentation is literally part of the gameplay of Deus Ex Human Revolution. Also, the setup and payoff of that game's Icarus imagery in its theme was masterful. This franchise is, in my opinion, the best speculative science fiction that gaming as a genre has ever had.
I always cry when I see these trailers, for 2 reasons: 1st, is just how epic the combination of music and visual art is, it's _sublime_ ; 2nd, most important, is just HOW MUCH DEEP AND RELEVANT it is, that even without augmentations, people will always have a reason to start a fight over something.
You're missing out big time. The game is objectively the top 5 best game ever! No hype, no overratedness, no riding the wave of a trend! Just the best design and an awesome storyline! I played it couple years ago and I regret not playing before.
There are a couple more promotional videos for the first game, Human Revolution. The Sarif Industries trailer and Purity First trailer. Got me hyped for the game when they were released.
As a big fan of the original Deus Ex from 2000, I was beyond hyped for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I watched that trailer maybe... 10... dozen times. And it was a good game when it finally came out. Not perfect, but I wouldn't call any game in the series perfect, just really good and unique in certain aspects.
oh i remember this game from like 20 years ago. the wings are a dream sequence, he was critically injured in a corporate attack. this game has very cyberpunk type vibes to it. please do this game it is really good. there is also a sequel which is equally good. everything you saw is game play or cut scenes but yes it is a super high quality game including the graphics. please do a first episode for this game
Deus Ex is awesome, there is a lot of combat mechanics in the trailer, but you can beat the whole game without killing a single person. I would love to have that option in more games.
Ooh man it would be awesome if you played any of this series. The Icarus imagery is to do with humans pushing the limits of what is possible with augmentation and possibly regretting it. Deus Ex is one of the most philosophical game series out there. I love the 4 main games in the series (original, invisible war, human revolution, mankind divided). "It's not the end of the world, but you can see it from here." "I tried to save the world. Now look at it." I love how the trailer hints at the available augs!
Not Lucifer, it's referencing Icarus. It was a dream/metaphor. Gameplay is like if Mass Effect series had continued being an RPG and expanding on its RPG elements.
Please please please play these games. I was really hoping you find them. I think you'll love these! The Jensen saga especially, but also do the original! They're all amazing.

I always preferred the original Deus Ex Human Revolution E3 Trailer to the one you showed. Must have watched it about a hundred times before the final game was released. Would give me aesthetic chills (frisson) every time. lol.
Totally not related to the trailers; but you're the first person I've "met" that has also had a spinal fusion! I had my rods inserted about 30 years ago (sheesh - time flies).
Too bad Squeenix let this franchise die. One of the best game ever made, with full freedom for player choice whether to be a deadly weapon or a silent shadow.

deus ex fan. HUman evolution is great, story is complex and Mankid divided had strong covid 19 pandemic vibes, about discrimination of 1 type of ppl vs others, like it was vaxed vs non vaxed
The thing is, the first Deus Ex game from 2000 is the best one, probably the best PC game in general. Tons of consequences for actions, very profound story that is more relevant and prophetic than even MGS2. But casual gamers just go for the last two games, which are good too
I never got to play the second one, but I had a blast playing human revolution. If you like this you'll like Detroit Become Human - if you haven't already played it. Both choice based games. I just realized Deus Ex is in Detroit as well... What is it with android uprisings happening in Detroit?? 🤣
@@rafabuda0 i disagree, storytelling is a personal preference and this game have great player reviews so i dont think being a david cage game makes it a bad story game, those who look for flaw will find flaw.
1:54 This is the problem with setting stories like this in the near future. The real world catches up with that timeframe so quickly that it turns stuff like this into kind of a joke. It reminds me of the way Star Trek set the Eugenics Wars in the 1990s. If you're going to write some wild stuff about the future, make the future you're writing about a little more distant. But setting that aside, I love Human Revolution and Mankind Divided, and I'm hopeful that Embracer Group is going to take the final game in the trilogy off the backburner and get it completed. Such a great series deserves better than to be left unfinished.
Both are great games and the best ones in the cyberpunk genre, but those videos are cinamatics, and ingame graphics are far from those. Human Revolution was even considered not visually super appealing for many players. Mankind Divided is still very good looking, even for now imo !
