I wonder how else they might have implemented the LED system into both the base mobile suit and the shield. I’m just so interested in what else they could have planned for this line. Like, I have no idea at all. An Exia with die-cast swords? Sound effects? Not a clue.
I think we'll get a Banshee Norn in 6 months. Then we'll get another totally different release next Sept with a new EXTREME gimmick. I know Zak said he doesn't think they'll do 00, but I could definitely see them doing MGEX Virtue/Nadleeh. An MG Virtue/Nadleeh has got to be in the works considering how well received both the MG Dynames and Kyrios have been. I could see them using the MGEX line as a way to give us the Virtue/Nadleeh and justify what's got to be a hefty price tag.
I don't think we should have been surprised and people who like this should buy it. But at the same time I don't think it's unreasonable for us to set a standard for Bandai especially if over time we raise that bar because they seem to want to breathe new life into their products. Recently HGs, MGs, and RGs have gotten a lot better in terms of design, articulation, and detail. It's almost like Bandai kind of let us on, if that makes sense.
dunno if someone else has mentioned it but its actually more like the rg unicorn lighting model which has a similar led strip sheet inside it but that obviously cant move around like the mgex can
I'd say this is probably a good opportunity to get suits that used to be too expensive to develop as a normal MG (Kshatriya, for example). Alternatively this could be where they'd be putting the G-Self Ver. Ka in the near future.
No, the MGEX Unicorn is a new design which isn't based on the old MG. They'll probably make a MGEX Phenex eventually though, even it if ends up being P-Bandai.
Holy mother of... luminescrmnt?? How much does it cost to proofread. Nice idea on the extreme point pretty expensive though. Cant wait for the next 1 and see if it is worth it.
Oh no, not more unicorn. I want a MG Psychommu Zaku. You know the OYW one with white paint job, the flying hands with laser fingers and rockets for legs. That suit is so cool.
2:33 Stoic Marcus! That unicorn mode with the light peaking through look sooo good. Unicorn Gundam is my favorite series, so I'm all for Bandai milking this cow dry lol... still wish for other kits though
I'm fine with a 2.0 unicorn, I just hope the future release aren't as expensive. Pg prices for a mg is a bit much. A Zeta, Mk2, and Gp01 would be nice to see.
I'm happy with my MG FA Unicorn. With my budget I don't think I'll build another unicorn anytime soon. I am looking to build an MG Banshee in the future though. I like the Unicorn/Banshee design.
the easiest ones would definitely be the gundam 00 models which can somehow light up into trans-am mode. or a freedom gundam with light-up effects part for the beem spamming mode of our lord and savior: kira yamato. or maybe an ex mode of a transforming gundam to flight mode that is not clunky, looks cool and just does not suck. any ideas what a future MGEX could be? please share it with me!
I personally love it. I will most likely purchase it, but I'll wait until a few more weeks in. I expect more information on related kits to the MGEX Unicorn, like 02 and 03, Full Amour, and god forbid a base Unicorn without the LED and all the accessories. In addition, while I am pleased about the reveal, I would like some more information on the kit itself, which I often get from Bandai's RUclips channel.
some people dont want to pay over $300 (cad) just for a glorified unicorn 2.0 with led gimmick. They just want the glorified 2.0 and not have to pay over $120 for some lights
I am thinking an MG EX God Gundam or Shining Gundam would be a good choice. The extreme poseability would be there point there. I do think a Kshatriya with the size being the extreme point is not impossible. Obviously the Banshee will be made, with the Norn attachments replacing the shield funnels.
could have done a number of different things like continue with the 00 line (you know what would have been next, which would have made sense) or other promises they never delivered on. on another note. bandai isn't exactly pumping out MG kits anymore. so what we are going to get 1 kit a year just like ver. ka. and high res. ?(if that's even a line anymore)
The reason Bandai doesn’t pump out new MGs a softer as before is because their resources are more spread out. MG kits cost more to develop and putting out 10 in a year saturates the market. And MG Virtue is highly likely to come next year as a standard MG.
@@ZakuAurelius isnt the market already saturated by the hundreds of other kits that are out? I understand they are more expensive to produce but its not stopping variants with whole new tooling for pbandai which you know happens. I know pbandai is a whole different conversation but their normal releases feel abandoned anymore.
Gotta feeling we may see movement gimmicks, eg zaku eyes that move by using a connected app that kinda thing. Could easily imagine a NU that has armour that shifts then lights up at the touch of a button. We're seeing stuff like that with 3rd parties and a lot of modellers out there seem to be mixing in that kind of element into their builds.
My thoughts on the MGEX unicorn is essentially this: It's good, definitely looks better, but I'm still not gonna buy it. That said, hope they release this kit with the kit and led separately in the future cause it does look nice.
Did anyone notice he said Version Ka in the announcement. I guess I never though of what the Ver. Part was for and now I feel extra dumb because it makes sense I guess but still say Ver. Ka
I think the purpose of this MGEX line is to focus on gimmicks and there is no other suit more gimmicky than the Unicorn. It makes perfect sense to me why they started with the Unicorn. In the promo video they show the elbow bending all the way and the LED "sheet" extending. I believe we will see a MGEX Zeta since the latest HG is a Gunpla Evolution Project kit.
Over here in Germany (and Europe in general?) the extreme part seems to be that you could get around 4-5 "normal" MGs instead of this... i mean nice kit in general but 270€? No way
If Bandai made a MG Kyshatriya the gimmick will probably be moving wings/shields or an entire lighting system for the verniers and inside the shields..
Yeah I do/did wish the MS Cage was sold seperately instead but I try to remind myself that it has to come with a big honking base anyway so they probably thought let's just throw it in for not a lot extra cost
@@BaileyZK I have no idea why they didn't make a normal 2.0 Unicorn at a normal price and a retail release then make the EX version we see here P-Bandai. Hell they've already done something similar with the RG EVAs.
My feelings have been mixed on the MGEX Unicorn. On one hand, the tech and engineering of the kit is cool, on the other... It's another Unicorn kit and uber expensive. With the Wing Zero EW ver ka and now this, we now know that Bandai has kept Katoki tied up doing these instead of making a "new" ver ka kit. I'm disappointing by it, but kind of already over it. I know I'm not buying it. I'm happy with the RG Unicorn, don't need another. Now... What I'd like to see here, but Bandai isn't going to do, cause Bandai, is to get rid of the wasteful batteries and power it with an A/C adapter. But of course, they won't do that. The price breakdown makes sense if you look at the prices of similar items. The old MG Unicorn was about $45; update it, add on the extra shields and guns and you might get it to $60-$70. The MS Cage is usually around $50. That leaves about $120-$140 for just the lighting system; which is about right (for Bandai's prices) when compared with the lighting add-on for the PG Exia of which this most resembles. There's your $230 price tag. As for future kits of the line, I wouldn't rule out the Exia or 00 Gundam too quickly Zack. They're prime candidates for the kind of tech displayed here, and as you said, they are popular and they sell. As for other kits, maybe a super poseable God Gundam? It could be a chance to get a God Gundam ver Ka, which I'd be down with.
I'm all for these kits. But I wish they would open the taps a little and pump out some more products. Demand seems higher then ever and I'm sure the new Wing and Unicorn will do well.. but throw out a few more new regular release MG's for us 1/100 fans. Plenty of room for some new GM's and Zaku's along side these guys. Given the problems with the OG unicorn I'm going to wait on reviews but I am optimistic about it. As for other EX's (not counting the other unicorns) Narrative with the armour packs, G-self with all it's components. Xi would be another kit focusing on pure size.
I only collect 1/100 myself as well. Haven't you seen all the new MG's bandai has announced for us? They're almost all Pbandai LOL. Just like pbandai they'll use MGEX to abuse and milk the fuck out of 1/100 and up buyers by releasing the same crap using the same old molds multiple times with slight variations.
I don't mind the EXver ka UC so long as bandai has at least learned from the fault designs of its predecessor. I would love a unicorn that can actually stand up
I must be the only person who isn't sobbing over the MG Wing Zero EW Ver. Ka or this MGEX. Well, to be fair, I did sob tears of joy over Zero because that MG NEEDED a new version, and it could lead to a P-Bandai Snow White Prelude.
My guess is that the mg ex line will be standard mg but with even more gimmicks like led units and stuff like that or kinda making it a 2.0 for big mg kits. With that in mind maybe a mg g self might not be too far off
it... it litterly is.... they litterly say in the announcement that they will make the "extreme" point for each suit a seperate thing, so it wont be LED for every suit, some may have i dont know. better transformation or whatever
I like the Unicorn design more than the other big money making kits you mentioned, but I have never built any of them. I have only made two gundams, the Providence and GP04. I prefer the design of Zeon suits much lot more
I personally think that the unicorn was a good choice for the start of the MGEX line because it could show the possibility of the line. With the unicorn in particular it can show how advanced they can go with the technology. I do agree that the price is a lot more then it could be. I feel like my opinion does not matter here because I don't think I will get this kit. I just thought i should Express my opinion and the other POV.
lol yeah cuz Bandai's last 2 announcements have been largely something majority of builders didnt ask for or cant even afford. Aside from the wealthy I feel like only enthusiasts would buy this kit. But alot of enthusiasts already modify their kits or atleast know how to. I aint paying 200 bucks (cad) more than MG unicorn ms cage ver. for just having 2 more shields, 2 small shield stands and the led gimmick.
Actually I'm pretty fine with this kid. Finally improve the mobility on the legs and red+green psycho frame led effect+grey frame in one kit. Besides from the price it's basically a 2.0 MG Unicorn.
I wish there was a non-light version :/ I know that it's kind of the point for the "extreme" version... But still, I've been holding off getting any unicorn cuz I expected an MG 2.0 would come out eventually, but couldn't care less about lights in model kits.
I was always holding out for a 2.0 mg unicorn. And while technically the mgex does fill that role, I'd be excited if it werent for that price. As for MGEX predictions, I can assume they'd do another Granddaddy gundam that's based on the upcoming PG kit.
@Acal3360 It's possible, but I don't think bandai would put a lot of time to develop the kit like this...it's kinda popular but not so much compare to unicorn....
@@thomas_mafty_haha they could've 1.5ed it. Changing just enough of the inner frame to support the gimick. Couldn't compare it to mine. Mine's in unicorn mode and no way in hell am I transforming it again.
@@chatspam1238 I have the MG unicorn too lol It would take more time to make the old parts fit instead of designing new ones, also, the Unicorn is one of the most popular Gundams, so this one is 100% gonna be brand new
To be fair, the amount of accessories you get plus the LED system they included along with the fact that this is a 2.0 of the Unicorn, the price point does seem fair. That said, I do think future MGEX won't be this expensive(unless they adapt the Strike Freedom next).
depends how much you value the led gimmick. MG unicorn ms cage version is like $115 Cad while this MGEX is $319 Cad. So I'd have to determine if 2 more shields, 3 shield stands, led gimmick, slightly new proportions and kinda fixed knee joint is worth 200 bucks. The shield and and the new frame is the only thing I cant make or buy under 200 bucks mark. Future MGEX better not be as expsensive and if it is it better actually be impressive like a Full armor unicorn. But im 95% sure next one is just a Banshee, maybe Banshee norn if Bandai is generous
Now give us MGEX Gundam Frame (Barbatos, Vidar, Bael, etc) with fully function piston Bandai. The MG is already good but it's still missing alot of movable piston (neck, foot, front chest piston). After that all MGEX from UC with movable piston like old PG.

I think I get the point of what you're saying about them leading us on. Its a shame that they go in one direction and change it on a whim.
dunno if someone else has mentioned it but its actually more like the rg unicorn lighting model which has a similar led strip sheet inside it but that obviously cant move around like the mgex can
what would you want to see instead?
I don’t own a unicorn yet should I preorder off USA Gundam store or pay the full price and wait for a review to see the lighting gimmick ?
The kits never gonna be much cheaper than it is straight away, so might as well get one while you can!
I'd say this is probably a good opportunity to get suits that used to be too expensive to develop as a normal MG (Kshatriya, for example). Alternatively this could be where they'd be putting the G-Self Ver. Ka in the near future.
I HAVE A QUESTION
If I buy the MG Phenex can I replace the Armor parts so that It would be MGEX Phenex?
You wanna put the MG Phenex armor on the MGEX frame? I would say just wait for the inevitable MGEX Phenex
@@ZakuAurelius yep I wanna Put the Gold coated parts on MGEX Unicorn xD
No, the MGEX Unicorn is a new design which isn't based on the old MG. They'll probably make a MGEX Phenex eventually though, even it if ends up being P-Bandai.
Holy mother of... luminescrmnt?? How much does it cost to proofread. Nice idea on the extreme point pretty expensive though. Cant wait for the next 1 and see if it is worth it.
I have a pediction. It's not a huge stretch to think the Nu Ver Ka EX is coming. Prob going to be lit up and the funnels made to work better.
Fingers still crossed for an Exia 2.0 or Exia Ver.Ka announcement
Oh no, not more unicorn. I want a MG Psychommu Zaku. You know the OYW one with white paint job, the flying hands with laser fingers and rockets for legs. That suit is so cool.
If we ever get a new kit of that it’s more likely to be HGUC
2:33 Stoic Marcus! That unicorn mode with the light peaking through look sooo good. Unicorn Gundam is my favorite series, so I'm all for Bandai milking this cow dry lol... still wish for other kits though
I'm fine with a 2.0 unicorn, I just hope the future release aren't as expensive. Pg prices for a mg is a bit much. A Zeta, Mk2, and Gp01 would be nice to see.
I like it. I want it.
I'm guessing majority of it will be undergated for the inevitable phenex right?
Yup
I'm happy with my MG FA Unicorn. With my budget I don't think I'll build another unicorn anytime soon. I am looking to build an MG Banshee in the future though. I like the Unicorn/Banshee design.
If the backpack shape is pretty close to regular corn the full armor parts should fit fine
Exia can really use a 2.0 and since they merged the idea of the led from PG and articulations from RG, that’ll be really good on Exia.
Bruh, I got almost all the versions of the Unicorn minus the PG. Do I need another? no, do I want anther? yeah. Will I buy this? probably not.
Wanna buy my PG?
the easiest ones would definitely be the gundam 00 models which can somehow light up into trans-am mode. or a freedom gundam with light-up effects part for the beem spamming mode of our lord and savior: kira yamato. or maybe an ex mode of a transforming gundam to flight mode that is not clunky, looks cool and just does not suck. any ideas what a future MGEX could be? please share it with me!
I don’t think it’ll be the next kit in the line, but I do think that we could potentially see exia in a few years instead of making an mg 2.0
I've seen cellphones with leds on the backs and changing its random colors.
As for the shield.. i guess it has to do with lightpiping function. maybe
Not a whole new mg, or a mg that isn't as popular
Bandai's cash-unicorn, the Unicorn Gundam
It has that sweet full knee bend though.
@@AssaultRider555 Hopefully they hold out better than the old Ver Ka's ankles.
Gotta feeling we may see movement gimmicks, eg zaku eyes that move by using a connected app that kinda thing. Could easily imagine a NU that has armour that shifts then lights up at the touch of a button. We're seeing stuff like that with 3rd parties and a lot of modellers out there seem to be mixing in that kind of element into their builds.
they did show the elbow bend as an animation in the promotional video, its a normal full bend.
Ka
Isn't this the first unicorn with a green frame
I think the purpose of this MGEX line is to focus on gimmicks and there is no other suit more gimmicky than the Unicorn. It makes perfect sense to me why they started with the Unicorn. In the promo video they show the elbow bending all the way and the LED "sheet" extending.
I believe we will see a MGEX Zeta since the latest HG is a Gunpla Evolution Project kit.
Over here in Germany (and Europe in general?) the extreme part seems to be that you could get around 4-5 "normal" MGs instead of this... i mean nice kit in general but 270€? No way
I don't have a MG Unicorn yet. So this will be my first time building one of that size.
I can customizing any grade of gunpla with LEDs using USB, so why should i buy this 1?
You shouldn’t, but maybe some of us can’t and still want to
I wanted a new Unicorn MG... just a 2.0 with a reasonable price-point that is basically what the RX-78-2 3.0 was to the RG.
If Bandai made a MG Kyshatriya the gimmick will probably be moving wings/shields or an entire lighting system for the verniers and inside the shields..
I'm getting strong MP-44 Optimus Prime vibes from this. Excessively high price because they threw a bunch of bullshit into it
Yeah I do/did wish the MS Cage was sold seperately instead but I try to remind myself that it has to come with a big honking base anyway so they probably thought let's just throw it in for not a lot extra cost
@@BaileyZK I have no idea why they didn't make a normal 2.0 Unicorn at a normal price and a retail release then make the EX version we see here P-Bandai. Hell they've already done something similar with the RG EVAs.
The Unicorn makes up for the Ver.ka
Next MGEX Banshee Norn. Please include the Marida config in the kit too.
I just noticed a Galaga kit on the left shelf and now I need to know what that is.
That's more than likely the GFX-D002b that wave put out a while back.
I did a WIP video on it about a month ago, still need to finish it
I can easily see Gundam Virtue with the extreme point being Gundam Nadleeh itself being a future MGEX.
The elbow bend was featured in the pv
I wasn't disappointed about the upcoming Ver. Ka.
My guess is that the mg ex line will be standard mg but with even more gimmicks like led units and stuff like that or kinda making it a 2.0 for big mg kits. With that in mind maybe a mg g self might not be too far off
MGEX is high-end model kit, but the led gimmick is something that have been done (pg Exia). Wish this lineup is more than LED gimmick
it... it litterly is.... they litterly say in the announcement that they will make the "extreme" point for each suit a seperate thing, so it wont be LED for every suit, some may have i dont know. better transformation or whatever
@@weberman173 i agree, maybe MGEX Zeta with better transformation is gonna be a best seller
Hey, could you do a video dedicated to the Moderoid Ikaruga?
I like the Unicorn design more than the other big money making kits you mentioned, but I have never built any of them. I have only made two gundams, the Providence and GP04. I prefer the design of Zeon suits much lot more
First Unicorn kit, so preordered after holding off for the PG for a while.
I expected this because it's Unicorn's 10th Anniversary.
Wait, folks are actually outraged at this, lol?
Not sure if I'll be getting it anytime soon, but I'm a Unicorn slave, so the temptation is there.
Because it's bullshit, a PG price for a glorified 2.0 with a shitty LED gimmick
lol yeah cuz Bandai's last 2 announcements have been largely something majority of builders didnt ask for or cant even afford.
10/10 asking for an mgex rgm-79, extreme explosions!
Can't wait for the inevitable MGEX Gundam Phenex (White ver.)
With how 2020 is going so far VerKa Wing EW seems on brand. This MGEX I kinda understand cause it's a good example of "EX"
I would love to see an MG Xi Gundam in the future
@Acal3360 we already have a big HG which is the Neo Zeong so no problem with an MG of a Xi Gundam
@Acal3360 It's possible, but I don't think bandai would put a lot of time to develop the kit like this...it's kinda popular but not so much compare to unicorn....
This why I stick with 1/144 scale, rarely ever am I disappointed
Can anyone tell me if this is a completely new mg? Or just the Ova with added gimmicks and more of a 1.5 than a 2.0?
Mostly new. maybe some common inner frame & MS Cage parts, But the joints & armor are definitely new.
@@teykengwei how can the frame be old if they're gonna put wires in it
It's completely new.
@@thomas_mafty_haha they could've 1.5ed it. Changing just enough of the inner frame to support the gimick. Couldn't compare it to mine. Mine's in unicorn mode and no way in hell am I transforming it again.
@@chatspam1238 I have the MG unicorn too lol
It would take more time to make the old parts fit instead of designing new ones, also, the Unicorn is one of the most popular Gundams, so this one is 100% gonna be brand new
the shield light should be from the stand attached to the shield
