Yeah, this is the big one. It's not only ABBA's most iconic song, it's also become one of the defining pop songs of the 70s. The music video has nearly 700 million views, so clearly it hasn't lost any of its potency. It was originally recorded with an extra verse at the beginning, but they decided to drop it and start the song in the middle of the chorus. A bold choice, but it works because it just hooks you immediately. Also note the 3-octave range of the vocals. Frida said in an interview that she cried when she heard the demo for the first time. They knew they had written a masterpiece. A perfect song.
Masterful melodic bass line from the fabulous Rutger Gunnarson. There is at least one video on RUclips of this bass line isolated from the mix. Spectacular.
That`s what the guys always said. They could do just about anything they wanted, for they had these two amazing singers with an amazing range put together. Respect.
Another perfect pop song. Their only US no. 1 which is really sad (We’re too cool to like ABBA yet here we are today nearly 50 years later and ABBA are still in the spotlight). This song was a worldwide phenomenon. It was and is THE disco dance anthem. Thanks Matt for the reaction. 👍
It was officially released to Sweden, at the pre-wedding gala of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Silvia Sommerlath in 1976. They asked ABBA to perform and Silvia literally became their dancing Queen at the age of 32. Silvia is still the Queen of Sweden and will be 80 in December)
Singer Björk told Rock & Folk magazine in July 1995 "ABBA saved my life, that's undeniable...'Arrival' is a happy record. Dancing Queen is the greatest pop song in history, pure ecstasy, it makes you want to take off... >> Tina Turner told Mojo magazine in May 1999, >
Hi, Matt. This is THE MASTERPIECE OF POP. The closest to perfection. If something like that exists. Love ❤️ it. I hope to see you soon... Take care and give Lucca a caress from us. ❤️🇨🇱👍
A song everyone knows and everyone gets on the dance floor to. Amazing vocal range from high to low and then some from the girls. Even more amazing to think that it was recorded in 1975 and before Fernando and released nearly a year later in 1976.
Even after 47 years after its release date, this song still moves me and goes right into my bones. The awesome vocals of Agnetha and Frida give me goosebumps over and over again. How I loved and still love this band!!! ABBA forever ♥️
I remember going on work night out and we watched an Abba tribute band, a very good one actually and they did at least an hour set, all the big hits and I was dancing and tapping my feet and I was watching a lady close by me that I knew and in the whole set she never moved, never bobbed her head, tapped a foot, nothing and I remember being absolutely gobsmacked as it is physically impossible not to move your body to an abba song, even the melancholic ones have a killer groove
Yes,a masterpiece that will be as popular in a thousand years time....the glissando was used in don't shut me down, though in a less dramatic fashion....
"Dancing Queen" (1976) is much more than a beautiful song, is a fantastic Masterpiece, which shines in the loftiness of its vocal harmonies the blonde singer Agnetha is soprano voice, the brunette singer Frida is mezzo soprano voice, and blending together made the famous and fantastic 'third voice of ABBA' And the music is bright and enveloping, from the initial chord it introduces you into the atmosphere of the disco and invites you to dance "Dancimg Queen" is biggest ABBA worldwide hit, included 14 weeks at #1 in their homeland Sweden, six weeks at #1 in UK, an the only ABBA song to pick the #1 in US Billboard at April 1977 (in the same week that Knowing me Knowing you was #1 in UK) English public has voted it as one of the songs they want to hear the most, because of the feeling of joy and energy it gives them (another is "Don't stop me now" by Queen) And in 2015 "Dancing Queen" was included in the Hall of Fame of Grammys awards music 'Dancimg Queen" is in my Podium of all ABBA song, with "Waterloo" (1974) & "S.O.S." (1975) It's a great sequence of a fantastic mystical trilogy: Waterloo is the international Baptism of ABBA S.O.S. It is Confirmation that they were not a 'one hit wonder' Dancing Queen is their definitive Consecration I hope to see you soon in next ABBA song It's a great plessure to see you enjoy each song in each ABBA Journey GOD bless you my best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South América
Inspired by George McRae's hit Rock You Baby, a bona fide classic, and their only US Number One. All the elements, the piano riffs, the amazing vocals, the synth runs, the groove, combine to make a pretty perfect pop song. It's nowhere near my favourite Abba track but i totally get why it's so popular.
Hi Matt😀 ABBA's highest grossing single was Fernando with over 10 Million copies sold worldwide, and Benny didn't want it to be released as a single but it was their Manager Stigg Anderson who insisted that it be released. This song was originally a song sung by Frida on one of her albums before ABBA. 🇬🇧🤪
I watched a documentary on the making of the song ; the producer went back to the master tapes and demonstrated how he put the trebel levels high for the voices which gives it that unique sound ... Original first verse that was removed : " Baby, baby, you're out of sight Hey, you're looking alright tonight When you come to the party Listen to the guys They got that look in their eyes " ...
I've watched some docu on this too but there's a really charachteristic snippet of 2.50 minutes where their Studio engineer genius M.Tretow/Bjorn and Nile Rodgers explain and show how vocals and arrangements were built up.And it's very moving. ruclips.net/video/YXIgq4dQ6ks/видео.html

other curiosities about "Dancing Queen" that make it the most famous song of ABBA, its pop hymn and musical emblem, their signature song ABBA began recording Dancing Queen between August and September 1975, when Agnetha and Frida recorded their voices during the sessions. there is a video that shows them in pre-production with the manager and the sound engineer Frida and Agnetha are seen singing a verse that was not included later, but the order of the verses was also changed to have a perfect start from the lyrics: "Friday night and the lights are low..." All ABBA members acknowledge that this song they always knew was going to be a big hit. But I go back, at the time of their initial recording (August/September 1975) even ABBA had not exploded worldwide, they were struggling to achieve their second great success that followed the trend that a year and a half ago had started "Waterloo" by winning Eurovision in April 1974 the girls Frida and Agnetha were recording their solo album (in Swedish) but the planets aligned for ABBA, and within weeks their singles from the 'ABBA' album conquered Australia and New Zealand, and finally "S.O.S." breaks the barrier and enters #6 in the UK and #15 in the US Similarly, "Dancing Queen" had more post-production tasks that delayed its recording and final release. in February 1976, with "Mamma Mia" reaching #1 in the UK, ABBA simultaneously filmed the official videos for "Fernando" and "Dancing Queen" and it is the manager who decides to launch "Fernando" first, so that ABBA is not seen repeating the style and the manager was right ABBA had three consecutive UK #1s in 1976 Mamma Mia (2 weeks) Fernando (4 weeks) Dancing Queen (6 weeks) "Dancing Queen" was just released on the market in August 1976, almost a year after its first recording sessions. is included in two TV specials that ABBA filmed in Germany, February 1976, and Australia in March 1976 and its official premiere is at the gala the night before the royal wedding in Sweden, June 1976, which ABBA attends and performs Dancing Queen dressed in period clothes the worldwide edition of the single Dancing Queen coincides with the launch of the historic ABBA logo (with the first B inverted) ABBA did a photo session in Germany, in February 1976, the four of them posed each with a giant initial that represented their names, it was Benny who turned his B and thus the famous and iconic ABBA logo was born, which premieres it on the release of the single Dancing Queen "Dancing Queen" is the song of the encores on their tours of 1977 (Europe and Australia) 1979 (North America and Europe) 1980 (Japan) and the new show Voyage Concerts at the ABBA Arena in London UK from May 2022 "Dancing Queen" was one of the songs that ABBA recorded in Spanish "Reina del Baile" for their full album in Spanish "Thank you for the music" (1980) The official video of Dancing Queen is the most viewed of ABBA on RUclips (almost 700 million views) and the most downloaded on Spotify

Summer 1976 and still as strong today as it was back then. I was 20 when it was released and it was played everywhere.

Is there anyone on this planet that hasn’t heard this song?
Inspiration for this track , rock me baby = George macrae ?. I think 🤔
It's all been said already.

That and Björn's getting creepy about teenage girls again (he does it a lot).
You exactly talked over the very last beautiful violin part of the fade-out 🫣 Don't start speaking too soon 😉
