The Lowest 2 sets of strings can be strung in Octaves for more clarity

They also made 6 course versions with a low e string around the time they were returning to simpler music and they wanted a bigger bass range

These Guitars were originally built for Gut Strings and today we often use Nylon as the modern more durable substitute (2:39 Yes you're right)

Great video! One question: I’ve read everywhere that the Renaissance guitar was the main ancestor of the Baroque guitar, but I’m also curious about its relationship with the vihuela. Did the vihuela also inspire and/or contribute to the development of the Baroque guitar?

Hello! Yes, you’re right, one can argue that the Renaissance guitar is the direct ancestor of the baroque guitar. That makes vihuela close relative. It’s apparent that they considered Ren. guitar and vihuela as being related by the fact that music for both appear side by side in same sources. Also, there existed 5-course vihuelas, which had the same tuning as a baroque guitar.

True, unfortunately. James Tyler’s book is the closest thing we have, but it does contain a wealth of information.

Don't refer to yourself in the third person.... It's weird in the 21st century and it's a hang over from colonialist Britain.
