    I’ve been following since midway through the dual extended hidden blade series, you even answered a few of my emails about the blade and the build process, im still working my way up to a build like yours but I’ve made a few working prototype types out of cardboard, thanks for showing me you can make anything out of anything ❤

      That's so cool to hear! I'm glad these videos help you get stuff done! It takes a lot of practice and patience to do this stuff and I know you will be able to figure out how to get a good working mechanism! I've been at this hobby for over 10 years and I still learn better ways to do things haha

    I'm planning on making my own hidden blade out of metal. I don't have access to a mill so I will be using sheet metal of various gauges. unfortunately I can't find anything that exactly matches the thicknesses of the parts on your prints. for example I can't find 0.100" thick material but I can find it at 0.125" thickness. is there any allowance for these sort of variances in your design?

    hey Shelden, a question, like how long do you let the paper dry?
    Or more or less how much?

    • @SheldenCaudill
      @SheldenCaudill  Год назад

      Usually 24 hours for 8 layers and the paper might still be moist. Often times I will get it into the shape I want and the super glue will hold it in place so it won't warp if that makes sense. The Elmer's builds the initial 8 layer hardened paper. Then after that it is super glue to glue the 8 layer pieces together. You can get some very strong hardened paper using this method. I'll show it in a video soon.

    please tell me you saw the hidden blade made from Jairus of all. i think a hidden blade should not have a string and a ring. but kepe up the good work

    • @SheldenCaudill

      I did see that a few months ago. I like the design but I also find the mechanical sound of the mechanism I'm using so satisfying lol. I do plan on trying out some different designs but I need to have a solid base to work off of first. I think there needs to be a nice balance between having something that can be practical but also something that is art. Thanks for the comment!

      @@gaonkizindagirajavlogs5284 Ah so you must have some friction somewhere! What I like to do is take a pencil and color graphite on the area that I think it's rubbing. Then I re assemble the components and move them around a little to disperse the graphite. Then I take the whole thing apart again and look for the graphite pencil marks. Any area I see the graphite means it needs to be sanded until I can't see the graphite any more. Then a little bit of sanding beyond that to make sure that you are actually removing material not just the pencil marks. Keep doing this over and and over and it should work! It can be tedious but it is worth it! A file works really well too. So sandpaper to remove graphite and paper. Add super glue to the new exposed layers of paper. Compress the layers with pliers, and then sand again to get the super glue smooth and level. Now your layers wont peel apart in addition to being really strong. Repeat the process until it moves smoothly. I hope this helps!

      @@whochangedmyname6660 I remember being just like you! I never had access to heavy machinery growing up like lathes, and milling machines. It wasn't until I hit 10 grade in high school where I was able to get a glimpse into the machining world. I also took a drafting class. These two classes combined made me start thinking differently. I started paper crafting as a result. Because it was a method I saw people use on youtube and it was cheap. I always knew though in the back of my mind, that I wanted to build a hidden blade out of metal. Obviously I had some struggles in life, everyone does, but what's important is that we just keep trying! I really appreciate your comment! I think your have something going for you, and with time and patience you will get exactly what you want. As a wise man once said AKA my granmpa. "It doesn't just happen." Maybe you and me will get the chance to talk once I get my discord server up and running!
