- As part of the Blades of the North Quest where I was an NPC I made some runes to use with my ritual circle. I thought I would go through how I made mine and some ideas on how you can create some runes to use in your LARP. Also some other ways you can incorporate runes into your kit!

I am working on doing a forest hag / witch NPC character for an upcoming LARP. I am using these runes and will be doing a video on it soon. I got some gems with runes, made some on stone and wood...might even try some one plastic bones since it's the perfect time of year to get those. I will drop you a line when that video goes up. If you want to design your own custom runes, symbols or fonts for any stories or anything you make, a fun way to do it is playing around with things like Indian ink on paper using broken sticks or something you find and try different things with it. I once did something like that in an art and design course I did to create a font and they can turn out quite nicely. Just be sure to put something on your surface in case you spill any ink, that stuff can stain, though soap and a nail brush with a bit of persistence can help it get out of fabrics if it isn't that large of a spot.
if you ever make your way back to the states, remind me to cast runes for you. I've been doing Tarot, Runes and Pendulum reading since back when you knew me!

You said you're playing a creepy "witch doctor" type of character. Even though it's a more modern thing, did you think about incorporating any elements of voodoo or hoodoo into the character? I liked the ritual circle and make up video also, but if you wanted to creep it up some more, incorporating some candle magic elements, dancing, fake blood for stuff, reading chicken bones or other small bones along with the runes, using alcohol but in period/genre appropriate containers and lots of spitting it out in a mist and stuff like that. Use activated charcoal power or food coloring to temporarily stain your teeth/gums black... (The only thing with that is, you have to keep munching on it to keep the effect, so maybe only use it a few times when you feel the need to) Just some ideas I had while watching this video, sounds like you're going to have a lot of fun at this event!
I LOVE all those ideas. If this was an ongoing character I would 100% have done some of these things. There are some pretty awesome epic tooth lacquers that would be worth investing in if I did more with this character.

Hey,...I just finished watching, liking, and subscribing to your inspiring and fun channel. Now I have some Intel for u . I currently don't remember the name of the author of the book I'm gonna recommend for you, but the name of book is ' The Nordic Runes'.( when I get the book out of storage I'll send you a text message about it.) . Next is something that you might find not just weird but controversial. It's a guy called Asbjorn Torval. You will find him on E.A koetting' s channel from a group called 'Become A Living God'. ( yeah I know it sounds strange, and they are! ) then call up ONLY Asbjorn's vids. they are usually attached to pod cast vids..with E.A. Koetting but look at these ' till you find the ones on runes. Now these people practice Black Magick . just ignore that stuff , but Asbjorn's knowledge of the runes from early sources is phenomenal, The Nordic Runes are only sixteen runes and are cast by tossing them from the bag, or from hand. The interesting thing is u can accomplish all you need from them and are easier to handle. She,( the author teaches u how not only how to read them but how to see the way the pattern engages the runes and effect's individual meanings of the runes but are enhanced buy the pattern which gives a deeper understanding of them as well. So...is that an 'Invader Zim' t shirt ' cause ENVY grrrl! I am a sixty five year old disabled Viet Era Veteran AND a Gothic Trans Woman who just days ago discovered ' Wasteland Weekend' festival and have absolutely freaked out about it ' cause I've got notes on this sort of thing from 1977! when I get them together, I'll try to contact you and consolidate them so u can read them.
