@Teresa7087 okay. I enjoyed his music growing my myself. But he financially and moraly supported people who orchestrated the attacks on 9/11. Who killed, tortured, and beheaded innocent people. Kinda takes the "icon" out for me. And I believe it's "I couldn't care less". If you could care less that would imply you have a degree of care. Any-who have a blessed day
Still one of my favorite songs. Such a great song. I put this Wild Work on a mix tape for my younger sister when she went college back in the 90s. I thought the lyrics were perfect for someone going out into the world on her own for the first time.
In January of 1986, I was a high school senior in Concord, NH. A teacher from my school, Christa McAuliffe, had been chosen to be the 'teacher in space' and ride aboard the Challenger. As you all already know, she and the others died when Challenger exploded during launch. The next day, my physics teacher played this song for us, saying it brought him peace and hope and he hoped it would for us as we mourned Mrs. M. That was my introduction to this song, and it never fails to remind me of that day, and of the teachers who made such an impact on me.
I’m from New Hampshire, by the time this happened I was living in Atlanta Georgia, but watching on TV so proud that a New Hampshire girl was getting to fly on the Challenger! How sad this was like it was yesterday❤
Listen to this song again and NOTICE: The song begins with just Cat on his guitar, then he sings, his guitar and voice get stronger, a bass starts, drums, backing vocals, etc. As the song progresses, more and more instruments and voices are added. The song gets bigger and louder as the Peace Train gets closer.
Cat Stevens was huge when I was a teen, I was born in 1960 when music was amazing and we all used to hang out in town listening to music and kicking back all getting along. Cat Stevens was a very peaceful humble man and he was looking for that peace and love so he moved to the Middle East ( that's where the Yusuf came from) when 9/11 happened he wanted to come back and do a benefit concert for the victims family's but the Government wouldn't let him in, people were upset and the complaints were pouring in so the government gave in ( thank God) he's so amazing

Right from the 60s I have always loved Cat Stevens. If you go to his 60s black and white video of "Matthew and Son", you can see him in his "Austin Powers" days.

I've been through Vietnam, the race riots of the 60's and '70's, 9/11, and all that's been in between. Of course I know Cat Stevens, Tea For the Tillerman being my favorite album of his. Yet listening to Peace Train through the ears of someone so young and how it still touches lives today, brought me to tears as if the first time hearing it myself, full confession, damn near sobs. God bless all those caught up in conflict, God bless all those alienated through hate in this country, and God bless Jordan and Amber for being such a vessel.
I lived through the same generations as you and am always saddened by how little progress we have made. It is a sad commentary on society that we are sitting in the same place, all these years later. I guess there is a certain hope in that we survived those terrible times, the race riots, the wars, the have and the have nots, and are still here fighting. I can remember living in SoCal during the race riots and my father going and buying a gun. He would never have had a gun in the house until the riots and he was so worried for us kids. I lived in Orange County and between drugs, riots and just the general feeling of unrest, he would stay up at night watching the house. He would not let us out of his sight and so all three of us kids lived through the music. We would each sit in our bedrooms and play albums all day long! Once the riots subsided then life took on a more normal tone and we thought progress was being made but it really wasn't. At the time I can remember being so scared that it would spread south and we would all be murdered in our beds. Such a weird collection of memories. Eventually, the times changed and we moved out of SoCal, which I still miss, and life went on.

"This is the world we dream of and it's not the world we're living in." That hit hard. This world has literally never known piece. It seems so simple - but apparently it's not.
Loving you both. Thanks for acknowledging his transformation. As a Christian, I have nothing but praise for Cat finding his Yusif identity. Many boats get us across the river. Enjoying the ride is optional.
I’m so impressed by your choice of Peace Train! I’ve always loved this song and what it stood/stands for. Prayers for Ukraine and love to you. Thank you!
I know a lot of people like live videos, to capture the energy of the audience, but I'd recommend using recorded videos to capture the vibe that captured the zeitgeist and made the song popular. PS: He is called Yusuf/ Cat Stevens is that he converted to Islam and changed his name to Yusuf. When the song came out he was simply known as Cat Stevens.
I prefer live videos to judge the talent of the performer rather than the studio versions which are are usually the results of multiple takes and selected punch-ins from different takes. You also often record different instruments and vocal tracks separately, losing the whole gestalt of a live performance. That being said, the recorded releases do usually have a better sound mix than live performances, but without seeing live performances you don't know if what makes the record great is the performers or the producer and sound technicians. There are definitely mediocre musicians and vocalists who have put out some great recordings from time to time, and they are worth listening to. But at least if you've seen them live and still love the record, you won't be disappointed or surprised when you see them live again and they can't perform the song as well as it was in the recording. Generally I see recorded releases as being great for evaluating songs, and live performances as the criteria for evaluating performers. In this case, as for capturing the zeitgeist, a live version with an audience gives a fuller picture of the spirit and mood of the time, given that the performance was recorded only months after the record was released, and there was no official video of the song released. While I agree with Bow Tangey that "Record producers are artists, too, and are too often ignored." The same can be said of important contributors to many arts: movie producers, cinematographers, the apprentices to painters who actually did some of the painting in the works of great artists. Basically most people can't name more than a handful of music or movie producers unless their true movie buffs or music buffs. But they go into the work knowing that, so it's usually because they love doing it and not looking for a road to widespread fame. Anyway, it's all a matter of personal preference. I happen to prefer my introduction to a musical artist to be a live performance, followed by the recordings. Of course I listen to the radio so often I do hear a recording I like first, which then prompts me to look for a live version.
I agree!! I prefer when they react to the original recordings for the most part. Live versions are often times better when you know the original recording and can fill in the missing pieces with their emotion on stage.
I agree generally but an exception to this would be if they do his "Morning Has Broken", I would love it if they watch the concert version from this same concert. I THINK it's this concert, saw the same piano player in the background of this video and the stage looks the same.
Have always love Cat Steven's music. He is a great singer songwriter with a very unique sounding voice. One of my first albums I ever bought was his "Tea For The Tillerman". The whole album is great. So is the album "Teaser & The Firecat". His first big hits were "Matthew & Son", "I Love My Dog" & "The First Cut Is The Deepest" in 1967. He has had so many great songs in his career such as "Father & Son", "Wild World", "Moonshadow", "Peace Train", "Morning Has Broken" etc. He is still recording & performing live & his voice still sounds great.

It's amazing to see y'all's reaction to this song because it's exactly the reaction I had when Cat first released it back in the 70s. That long for a world living in empathic harmony and love. I tell you what: y'all should REALLY get to The O'Jays "Love Train" to get a Soul/R&B take on the theme.
Awesome. Thank you. #IStandWithUkraine Also - You've got to hear Cat Stevens' "Morning Has Broken." Unforgettable. (I'm referring to the studio version - the piano, arranged and performed by Rick Wakeman, is stunning.) What's really cool: Of all the songs on the album, it was one of the last to be released as a single, The record company figured, "Hmmm, it's an old Gaelic hymn. Meh. Big deal. Who's going to like that? Well, let's release the single and see if we can make a bit of money." And they did...and it shot to #1 on the charts for 5 weeks. Everybody loved it. :)
Timely and beautiful...just like y'all are. Now THERE'S your coincidence! Equally groovy, but unique in its own way is 10,000 Maniac's cover of "Peace Train". There is a video with them on a train. Worth the review as well. They really play up that beautiful chorus bit in the background. In the '60s and '70s people hopped aboard the peace train in great numbers, but you know what? There was a well-funded and permanent opposition to peace, love and grooviness, and it has only grown and grown, sad to say, and much of it is probably funded by the very guy who is causing all the trouble, disturbing the peace...because if we fight each other, he won't have to fight us. Let us do ourselves in. This crisis is another opportunity to hop aboard the peace train, and y'all can help show people how and why. Your response to this song is the same as many folks back then, and all hippie type peace-lovin flower children. Anyways, thank again. Peace & Love.
I love ur outlook regarding peace, love, unity and compassion. Its nice to think the world could live in peace. Unfortunately, cruelty is part of the fabric that makes us human. One day. long ago, a caveman snuck up behind another caveman. An innocent one that probably believed in peace. But he was cooking a freshly killed deer and the other caveman wanted it. One of them had to die. This song and dance has played in the dance hall of history and it will continue to play long after we re all gone. Sadly, it's those looking for peace that end up paying the price

This song brings me to tears, especially now. Pray for peace.
❤️. Praying for this world and for peace among all people. Love Cat Stevens, he has so many great songs. He is a poet with so much meaning in his songs.
Yusuf/Cat Stevens "Tell 'Em I'm Gone",, "Where Do The Children Play?" & "Sad Lisa"..Classics.
Takin’ us all to CHURCH! “Tea for the Tillerman” is one of my top ten albums. Please do a full album reaction to it, because it really is a beautiful work of art record.
Agreed
Your vest reaction to one of the great messages of all time. Fantastic.
Love Cat Stevens. Introduced to his music from watching Californication. Another great musician that’s definitely worth checking out is Warren Zevon.
Check out the dark comedy classic “ Harold and Maude”. The entire soundtrack is Cat!
He referred to ‘Strangers on a Train’--lol!
Love this song, he also went by Cat Stevens
I grew up on Cat Stevens thanks to my dad. This video made me cry. Thank you for reacting to him.
"This is the world we dream of and it's not the world we're living in." That hit hard. This world has literally never known piece. It seems so simple - but apparently it's not.
This was the music of high school and college for me. Many great memories. Cheers from about 15 miles south on I-35.
Great reaction and so needed in the world today
Cat Stevens/ Yusuf is a beautiful human being.
Loving you both. Thanks for acknowledging his transformation. As a Christian, I have nothing but praise for Cat finding his Yusif identity. Many boats get us across the river. Enjoying the ride is optional.
Beautifully put!
Always loved Kat Stevens!!!!
Another good song concerning social change is Midnight Oil’s 1987 song “Beds Are Burning”.
Yusuf/Cat Stevens "Moonshadow",, "Miles From Nowhere" & "Into White"
Great song!! Great songwriter!! “Wild world” should be next!🤘🔥
such a great artist with so many great songs. hope your feeling better Amber
I’m so impressed by your choice of Peace Train! I’ve always loved this song and what it stood/stands for. Prayers for Ukraine and love to you. Thank you!
Slava Ukraini
I was in the Army when this song came out, it had a special meaning to me.
Right there with you - we all need to get on the Peace Train
Cat Stevens was so cool, and his delivery was like no other. Check out The Hurt, Bitterblue, Morning Has Broken, Sitting...
He definitely had his own style. He doesn't really fit into any genre.
Boy, do I agree. Record producers are artists, too, and are too often ignored.
I agree about going with studio recordings - but this performance was 🔥.
Just want to say, this old man loves you both. Keep up the good work. Peace to us all
Good one! Never seen this live version but for live, it was good. You'll love the studio version. I bet it goes on your playlist
I went to see him in the 70s and it was such a great concert. He has so many great songs.
Don't get me crying again Amber. Great song choice
Prayers for Ukraine, and all the Russians being arrested under their brave protest. God please watch over all in the Ukraine and all whose voices cry out for peace and a stop of the hell unleashed by a mad man.
❤
@@CuzKatieSaysSo You're right, you shouldn't bring politics into this. It's completely inappropriate.
But since you brought politics in to it, didn't our troops, under Trump, run from the Russians in Syria? Since you know how to use RUclips, maybe check the video of Russians giving a tour of our abandoned base with our abandoned equipment and half-eaten meals still on mess tables.
@@camperoh Hmm, not to create discourse on this channel because it is not meant for that. I suggest you refrain here. you want top hit me up or your timeline and we will discuss who drew a line in the sand and ran away from his own challenge. Until then bro, peace. in constant prayer!
Loved your reaction and the reason for it. My favorite from him is Wild World.
Awesome. :)
My all time favorite song. I walked down the aisle to it.
Morning Has Broken, word for word taken from the Bible. Either a reading from one of the Psalms or Proverbs,
It's one of the best songs ever written. So relevant today.
One of my all time favorite singers…. He sings some very beautiful music….. he has a special voice & talent…
Since it's warm here today (just a few miles south of where you are) try reacting to "Summer" by War. BTW love "PeaceTrain".
Sure will! Also how happy are you for warm weather! The last little bit of ice finally melted in our front yard today
He was Cat Stevens when he wrote this song. Loved this album
Morning Has Broken is a must by Cat Stevens!
Yesssssss! ‘Ready’, ‘morning has broken’, ‘hard headed woman’ ‘wild world’…. ‘Moon shadow’ So many great ones!!! The album version is much better… the guitar change emphasis is MUCH more pronounced and meaningful…this seems rushed and in the Yes, he is talented.
For WORLD PEACE!!! 🌍🌎🌏✌
Stand up for Ukrain..🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
Nicely done. Needed to hear this today.
Since your thinking about the Ukraine, maybe do another song from the Ukranian band Jinjer. Try Perennial live, or Teacher Teacher.🤘🤘
Also here is a short video posted by Eugene, Jinjer's bass player. They are in Kiev. ruclips.net/video/MKs_gVgcfM4/видео.html
You doing okay brother?
@@itsmedino I'm good, just working a lot. How about you?
That's an amazing song 🎵
Neil Young is another awesome anti-war and pro-humanity singer/songwriter. As were so many others of the era,
Love Neil Young, we need to check out more of his work
