My personal theory for Scooby in the first animation is that she broke his own mind when she asked why he could talk and not even he could understand why. So he turned into some kind of reality changing monster who first lashed out with his breaking brain, then regretted after once he had settled down.

Meaning that every reboot ends with velma figuring out something is wrong and scooby needing to kill everyone and start over
