TD Snap takes 5-6 seconds for voice output to start (supposedly purposefully designed to do this)

- Update 12/2/24: Here’s the official reply I received from the company about this issue:
“I spoke with the developers this morning, and the lag is actually a deliberate design choice we made early on (before my time). We prioritized showing the home screen of the page set as quickly as possible to help orient the user, while the "magic" (like loading voice engines) happens in the background during the 3-5 second load time. The exact duration varies depending on the device.
Our assumptions were that communicators don't often don't interact with buttons as quickly as we might, so we opted to prioritize exposing the page set to help communicators orient themselves. An alternative would be to extend the splash screen display time.
While this may feel like a bug, it is an intentional decision and unrelated to the subscription change. As I mentioned, we could look at showing the splash screen instead. That said, we remain committed to optimizing load times and will continue testing and monitoring for improvements.”
But my lingering question is… Why is there an odd white screen when the app first opens (as seen in my video)?

FYI… There is a glitch with the voice output in the most current version of TD Snap (full paid version) on the most current iPadOS (18.1.1). It’s taking 5-6 seconds for the voice output to work when initially opening the app and there’s even more of a lag if using an external Bluetooth speaker. It’s happening on several different models of iPads.
I did a Forced Restart and deleted and reinstalled the app on a very strong WiFi connection but that didn’t resolve the issue. Here’s a screen recording so you can see what’s happening. • TD Snap takes 5-6 seco... .
I’ve reported the issue to Tobii Dynavox both via email to Customer Support and in the Feedback area within the app. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.
Tobii Dynavox - I already submitted it via the in app Feedback form and included the logs.
Update: I did further testing. After the initial 5-6 second lag the voice output continued to work. I checked it after 30 minutes of inactivity and it continued to work. But every time the app is reopened it has the 5-6 second lag before the speech output works. I checked my oldest iPad that hasn’t been updated to iPadOS 18 yet but does have the most current version of TD Snap and it is having this same issue. Hopefully the Tobii Dynavox team can find a fix. Having a 5-6 second lag before being able to have voice output when starting up TD Snap is going to be a less than optimal experience especially for those new to AAC.
