My Grandparents were the caretakers of McDonald Mansion for 20 years. They lived in the carriage house next to the mansion since no one occupied the mansion. My Mother, Brother and I lived there as well when I was a newborn until 2 years old. I remember it well

I had the joy of growing up in 905 McDonald Avenue from 1948 to 1962. This well done video reminded me of so many of my parents' friends and neighbors. As I have kept up with some of the history of the street, I still enjoy more. My parents, Ed and Elaine Healey bought our home from Bessie Bogle, hence my strange user name. I did note two houses on Spring Street and 14th Street that are only a block away. One at 829 Spring belonged to my step grandparents, Eugene and Susan Healey. In the 1950s I went trick or treating at Mableton, 1015 McDonald Avenue. That was fun and somewhat scary. What I miss now is walking the street in fall when many of the trees fill the area with vibrant colors. Thanks for memory jog.

I never thought I'd find someone on RUclips that used to live in the house that I grew up in! The Ginko trees in front are just as magnificent as they were decades ago.
      I lived in 905 from 1975 - 1986, and I still miss that place.

This was wonderful! This past summer I spent 5 weeks in Santa Rosa at an Air BnB on Monroe St. and walked McDonald Ave and the Rural Cemetary almost daily. Beautiful Homes, Wonderful self guide tour at Cemetary. I now know more about the area and it's founders. I grew up in Santa Rosa, and Ialways dreamed of the McDonald Mansion "Mableton". I can't wait to return and walk the route again with the information on hand. So many of these homes were my favorite! Thank you! Beautiful documentary! All Santa Rosa High School and SRJC students should be required to watch this as part of local history and community involvement. I wish I knew this information 30+ years ago.

Very well done! I live in Santa Rosa (about 7 min from McDonald Ave), and have passed by the street many, many times...
My mother-in-law was born and raised here; her grandmother was born here, as well; and was an early member of the Saturday Afternoon Club for decades, and elected as an officer many times.
My mother-in-law got such a kick out of your video! Thank you so much!

this was literally a walk down memory lane. i lived on wright st and as a kid, i ran wild on mcdonald ave. and in the cemetery at the end. in second grade my bff and i used to crawl under these houses and dig in the crawl spaces for arrowheads and glass insulators and found lots. it was a different time lol im almost 50 now

How interesting. There is a McDonald ave in Brooklyn. There are some colonial houses still in Ditmas park. Thanks for a great video.

Well done documentary - I really enjoyed watching it and hearing about the history of these homes. I did a similar series on historic homes/district in my city years ago - was trying to guess the architectural styles before they were identified :)
