  • “It really sets a precedent of don’t go against us and we’re going to come down harsh if you do.”
    Keir Starmer suspends MPs, who were part of Corbyn’s shadow cabinet, for rebelling against the Labour leader on the two child benefit cap, says Times Radio’s Joe Hawkins.

  • @peterweeks2066
    @peterweeks2066 2 месяца назад +1

    This is why political parties are bad. I'd make parties illegal. You vote for your local MP on their merits and they then represent the constituency in Parliament. PM and ministers then elected by MPs from amongst themselves. Anyone can table a policy and then it passes or falls on MPs votes. No whipping and no 'party loyalty'. That would be democracy. It would also hopefully make changes slow and gradual, with a lighter government burden on the people.

    • @thewaronu8842
      @thewaronu8842 2 месяца назад

      Banning political parties would be undemocratic - party membership is a factor on which people evaluate a candidate (obviously the main one), you are essentially saying you want to vote independent, so everyone else should be forced to That said, the system is certainly a scam, no argument there, I'm an anarchist

    • @peterweeks2066
      @peterweeks2066 2 месяца назад +1

      @@thewaronu8842 you say banning political parties would be undemocratic. I believe it to be undemocratic for MPs, who are meant to represent their constituents' best interests (which can include the effects of world affairs and the future of the planet etc.), being beholden to another authority outranking their constituents. By that I mean party diktat of course. We deem it undemocratic to have cartels and lack of competition in business. Political parties are corrupt cartels.
      So yes, MPs should all be independent, and the voters would then have to put in a bit of effort to learn the character and nature of their candidates, instead of just ticking a box because it's got the party you've always voted for.
      As an aside, when I hear people say "I'm voting X because my family have always voted X" I shout out "If you can't use your brain to think about why you're doing what you are, then you shouldn't be voting!
