This was absolutely stunning! One of the best videos i have seen in a while, enjoyed every second of it! Thank you for sharing your hike! I have so many questions as i would love to do it myself next spring. Did you always got your drinking water from the dwells filtering it or are there other sources? Weren`t you not afraid of possible bear encounters on the way? Any bear spray on you? Did you met other people on your way? What month were your hiking? Do you think may would be a good time? Is it possible to do this on a mountainbike or just on foot? Thank you, hope you will see my comment and could answer my questions. Never hiked such a long trail with staying overnight in such remote areas. Any satellite phone in case of emergency?
Thank you very much for your nice comment. It means a lot to me. I will try to answer your questions as best I can. Most water sources are wells, mostly near mountain shelters or old shepherds' dwellings. It is rare to come across a small stream or puddle, but there is a chance that they dry up in the summer months. As for filtering the water, it is not necessary to filter it (I didn't filter it myself a year earlier on almost the same route), but if you want to be safe from the possibility of getting diarrhea, then I definitely recommend either a water filter or aquamira tablets. Generally, I think that the most important part of the preparation for this hike is to familiarize yourself with the locations and reliability of the water sources. You don't need to worry about bears or any other animal encounters in a negative way, as animals in general are afraid of humans and they tend to keep away from humans. When was the last time you heard that a bear attacked a man in our region? :) For the same reason I didn't carry a bear spray, it would only make sense for grizzly bears, which are not in Europe anyway. If you are afraid to sleep in a tent you can hike hut to hut, because there are a lot of them on the route (every 15-20 km). I was hiking in the month of July. I think that either May or September is the best month to hike this trail (less heat, more wet water sources, etc.). This trail cannot be done by mountain bike, as you can see in the video, 95% of the route is a hiking trail. It is not necessary to have a satellite phone, every day you will have cell service at least on some parts of the trail. In case of emergency you can carry some kind of gps beacon such as Garmin InReach mini which enables you to send SOS via satellite but it is quite an expensive option. I wish you to achieve your dream and hike this trail! I am sure you will have wonderful time, just pay attention on the weight of your backpack as too heavy backpack can make the experience less enjoyable :) If you need any other advice feel free to contact me. All the best!
@@josip.knez21 Hallo Josip, thank you so much for answering me in such detail. I highly appreciate that you took your time for answering me! Now i have a much better picture of how to approach this myself in May. I live in Slovenia and do hiking 3-4 times a week in our large woods and mountains. I am experienced in these day long hikes but never slept more than one night out in the wild. We have alot of brown bears and this is the only thing what holds me up a bit for multiple overnight hikes, especially alone. You have alot of guts for doing this, much respect! I will prepare my hike based on your information. Only thing i will do different is to take bear spray with me :) Cant wait to start this exciting hike and enjoy the beautiful views along the way. Did you met other hikers on the way? Kind regards and alot of more amazing hikes to you my friend 🙏
@@didgeridoothedeepmechanics Hello again. Considering your hiking experience, I believe that you will not have any problems and that you will have only positive experiences. If you think you need bear spray, then go ahead with it! As for meeting other hikers, you will meet them here and there, especially at better-known locations (Premužićeva staza, Paklenica National Park, ...), or in/near mountain shelters. Sometimes a whole day can pass without meeting anyone, especially during the working week. Enjoy your journey, who knows maybe we'll meet somewhere in the mountains ;)
Great video and lots of great shots packed through great editing and music. What an absolutely gorgeous start to a walk, beautiful weather and surroundings.
Excellent video bringing the feel of nature trough the screen. It brings fond memories from just watching, can imaine how great was filming. Thanks Josip for the time 🙂
That's a wonderful film of your adventure Josip. Great scenery and views, beautiful shots, and a great edit. Exactly the content I am looking for and trying to produce myself. Nice one. Looking forward to following you on your next outdoor adventure. Happy trails, Mario
Thank you for the gorgeous footage. Looks amazing. You did wild camping, right? Isn't it illegal, especially in National and Natur Parks? Did you stay near the marked paths (because of mine contamination)?
Thank you for watching. Glad you like it 😊 With regard to 'no camping' rule in National Parks / Nature Parks camping (means you are on the same spot with your tent for days) is not allowed but bivouac is. So as long as you follow leave no trace, don't make fire, pitch your tent just before dark and leave your camping spot just as the sun comes out nobody will make you problems. Even better if you move bit offtrail so nobody will even notice you. With regard to mines - there is no more mine suspicious areas on the Velebit mountain so you don’t have to worry about mines… Happy trails! 😉
E moj Josipe, zaista ti trebam spomenuti da su rijetki oni koji bi se na ovaj način upustili u sličnu pustolovinu. Treba ti čestitati i zahvaliti za izniman trud koji upravo sada uživam. Velebit... svi se mi mijenjamo dolazimo, prolazimo i odlazimo a on ostaje i to veličanstven zauvijek.
Water can be found usually near mountain houses and shelters. Mountain huts are having water tanks (approx. every 15-20 km). Huts with water: Zavižan, Rossi shelter (not safe for drinking - only 7 km from Zavižan so not a problem), Alan, Ograđenica, Skorpovac, Baške Oštarije (hostel), Ždrilo, Šugarska Duliba shelter, Tatekova koliba shelter, church on the Rujno plateau, Struge shelter (water is 20’ from the shelter towards Vaganski peak), Vlaški Grad shelter, Zlatino sklonište shelter. Check on some of the hiking apps distances between mentioned shelters so you will get idea about the distances between water sources.
