Thank you so much for showing us how you designed the cigar ashtray!
I have to say I was truly impressed when you had your OCD moment-my jaw dropped at how beautifully organized everything is! 😱
Please never apologize for that; it is a craftsman's dream to be organized the way you are! 🙂

Beautiful work. Appreciate all the details you shared. Any rough idea how many minutes on the CNC it took?

Nice work. What type of wood are you using and where’d you find those t track clamps?

Thanks! I typically use three species of wood for my ashtray’s. African mahogany, hard, maple, and Walnut. The T Track Clamps came from Carbide 3D. I ordered them when I purchased the machine.

Awesome video. What is that purple surface you put the tray on

Thanks for your question… The purple surface you’re asking about is 120 grit sandpaper, glued to a piece of plywood. I also have the underside of that piece of plywood covered in sandpaper too. I use that as a way to keep the material from moving around while I’m standing it either by hand or with an electric/orbital sander.

Great job. What CNC machine as a beginner should I use to make an ashtray?

That’s a great question. I believe most if not all desktop CNC’s are capable of doing the job. It’s ultimately going to come down to your budget. There are plenty of CNC Machine options out there, I would suggest do your research and focus on features that are important to you. Size, sturdiness, built-in waste-board are some things to consider. Hope this helps.
