I am restoring a 66 C-10. Currently working on bed. I had the thought of doing this. Low and behold others had the same thought. I am hoping to be able to get wider pieces, but if not I am going to space them apart further so I keep the same number of boards as factory. I am also going to put the bed fasteners below the decking. I think it will be a much nicer look. The thickness issue can easily be solved with trimming the leading edge of the board. It will have a slight slope at the tailgate, but it will never be noticeable.
Good work, man i thought that this material could work on my step side, but I was searching for the original measurements with out luck. I have 22 years with my truck, and i have installed bed 5 times and urethane don't last with weather..I'll go this way now.. ty for sharing
You were talking about using a planer. I’m not too sure you could run plastic through a wood planer. It would probably melt to be to the blades because wood is hot when it comes out of a planer.
Too big of a span for plastic imitation wood. Support needs to be no less than 12 inches. 8 is best. Plus it stretches in the sun and shrinks in the cold. Good luck with that

it works pretty good
The only wood I can find is the one with the grooves (the ones that will mess up the strips) do you have a link on the wood???
Great video!
no sorry I got it at Lowes

I don't know if it would or not it's not really like plastic but it's also not like wood
Looks great to me. Did you mill the boards at all or just let the strips sit on top?
I mailed them on a table saw
The original thickness can be different than todays dimensional wood.
Yes it is different but I made it work. I don't know if it would work out on other years though.

It's not giving me any trouble and it has plenty of support and room to shrink and expand
