Hey Mr Chan, what kind of rules do you establish with a sparring partner who youre going to HARD/LIVE spar with? im a heavyweight and ive given and received concussions lasting days in the past.. i want to return to rotating a live spar in every so often to test things... i personally dont feel comfortable throwing my right hand 100% at a friend/sparring partner's head because ive really hurt people in the past. so im curious when you spar full speed are there certain strikes that u never truly send full speed IE head kicks or hooks perhaps? or do you let them know before hand like hey if either of us get wobbled, followup with ONLY body shots so as to not seriously hurt eachother? Thanks in advance
Not gonna lie, this is one of my better training videos and I seriously think these drills are great to incorporate in your training! You never know what's going to happen in a fight, whether you get injured or not, so practicing is key! Great vid Jeff and I'm glad you got a sponsor. I do have some questions though. Do these drills teach bad habits/ take away habits? I mean you have drilled your left kick so much that you struggle not to throw your kick. Is this bad training because it forces you to unlearn some good habits? And about the shell up drill, you have mentioned before that you don't like shelling and taking shots to the head. Isn't this drill teaching some bad habits? Let me know if I'm wrong: these drills are not necessarily for developing fight habits. 🤔I mean it would seem counter-intuitive. I guess these drills help with developing something you suck at by forcing you to engage in doing that action. Other than that, I don't really see the point of these exercises. *If that is the case, would you also recommend doing this drill but the fighters don't know what their opponent's restrictions are? That makes them fight more realiscally and defensively sound (E.g. You are still aware and cautious against punches when your opponent can only kick). Thanks!
Old enough to be his Da so I can say this. What a sweet & professional kid. Complete Class Act. Hope his parents believe in what he's doing and are proud of him. If I had kids I'd love them to have a coach like this.
Love these drills, Jeff! I think a lot of self-defense gyms miss out on the sparring aspect of training and these are a perfect way for hesitant students to get started. 🙏
I ve trained french boxe (savate) and kickboxing for 25 years, all your vids are a great help though. Thanks to you i keep learning new tricks. My son have started to train for 2 years in a gym and each sunday i train him on the basis of one of your vids. Thanks from France
Yooo nice video overall. The drills are great and help out a lot. They also seem fun to practice. The editing in the video is also very good. I think it’s that new desk helping you out 😂😂😂. Great video Jeff and keep up the good work!
Jeff, these are great. I do a few similar ones with brand new people learning to spar, but I picked up several great new ideas from you. Awesome material.
Jeff! Huge respect for your skills and style, even more for how genuine of a guy you seem to be with all of your subscribers. I was wondering if you have any plans for a video covering your tactics or drills for parrying, catching and blocking punches. Your timing and defensive movement is awesome to watch.
Man you gotta keep in mind that this was the guy that people keep telling that has an awkward fighting style. But right now for me, he has one of the most beautiful striking!! Gotta be one of my favorite striking styles second to my list of favorites with nasukawa tenshin on the first😁. My striking style now consists of both Jeff's and Tenshin's combined.
The last 2 exercises seems to be really tough! During this pandemic times i have only One friend to Spar with, a TALL, i mean , very TALL one! Great advices to improove my technical skills instead of going for the clinch and dirty boxing! Great video as allways, and Great sparring partner also!
I never do any drills like this where I train because I don't think people fancy it; but they're all legitimately great drills and something I'd like to incorporate.
Hi Jeff, I totally agree with you, this video is on the next level! Incredible helpful and high value drills to improve the skills without hurting yourself while sparring. oh how I miss to able to sparr with somebody in the gym. We are in full lockdown, all gyms are closed. As always thanks your video
My instructor did a near-identical rotation for, wait for it... KRAV MAGA sparring in a krav maga gym. The students' skill level was very diverse. Crazy how the best training can crop up in the most unexpected of places.
Awesome! Indeed, situational sparring and isolating certain skillsets is crucial to training and improving said skillsets. Too many people just want to spar where anything goes within their particular ruleset, but people don't really improve much this way. If you want something to come out, you have to specifically focus on, drill and condition it. This is like your other video "Going Into Sparring With A GOAL ". :)
Jeff bringing us the quality content as always. Im gonna use these drills for the next few weeks in our dojo. Also, maybe something helpful. During Drill 4 when you are workin your right side and the left kept wanting to kick, maybe cut the leg off at the thigh to prevent an unwanted kick. LOL obv Im joking you would need a Dr there to attach your leg back on after each Drill..... Maybe not all advice is good advice :) Hope all is well with you and your new family.

Just finished doing these with my friend. I didn't realize a few of these required switching roles and therefore required 2 rounds (lead vs rear, offense vs counter, punching vs kicking). We thought we were in for 10 rounds and ended up doing thirteen and feeling BEAT by the end. Good stuff though! Learned a few things that I suppose I don't normally get access to because I avoid the specific situations I had to be in.
Dear Jeff, I love your channel. There is another channel called Siam boxing that has been gaining traction. Would you ever do a collaboration sparring video with them?
You've probably had this question before but, where did you get your footgear?
