- Our First Recipe Video From 2007 Throwback Episode - Glen And Friends Cooking
Welcome friends, welcome to the edit room.
A couple of weeks ago youtube started promoting one of our videos from 2008; ‘how to make butter’ and it got me all nostalgic for those very early videos that we did here on youtube. Unfortunately five or six years ago I had a meeting with a RUclips partner manager and our partner manager told us to remove all of the older videos that were underperforming. Their thinking was that if I removed all of these older videos it would sort of free the channel from that drag that they were that they were causing, and that our channel would grow. So I did it and I immediately regretted doing it because that was the history of the channel after seeing this this video come back to the top from 2008 I thought what if I went back to the hard drives sat down pulled up some of those older videos and reintroduced them re-uploaded them in a higher quality just to show people what we were doing back at the very beginning. So today i'm going to show you the very first recipe video that we uploaded to the channel in august of 2007. Today is a recipe video about baking bread so take a look see what you think let us know down in the comments if you'd like to see more of these and from time to time I will drag one out of the out of the archives and re-upload it.
Let's see what happened back in 2007.

Fun video to watch but I’m sure I’m not the only one missing Jules at the end!
In an early video I've seen Jules host the video
I wonder what and when the first Video was where Jules shows up and says "Hello Friends".
I've never understood Jules role in these, seems like she just shows up to eat. I'm sure I am just missing something.
Jules is just like my wifey Siobhán ....... turns up to eat and give and honest opinion and keep us grounded.
In my world its her final decision if i would bother to retry a recipe or to add it straight to the repertoire of recipe cards or whether to just dump it???
Jules is A MUST!!!! ❤❤❤
I got a bit of a crush on Jules
Glen is just so damn likeable!
Canadian, lol
When we were in Canada several years back everyone was so polite and nice and helpful - even the police officer who pulled me over. He offered to have us follow him to the highway two miles away.
I remember my grandmother saying, "we knead the dough because we need the bread."
lol I love that.
My mother made 12 loaves of bread every Monday. I can remember watching her knead the dough for 10 15 minutes. She must have had muscles on her muscles after that!
Even back in 2007 you still had better sound, filming and presentation quality than most RUclipsrs have today. That was great and it's a good recipe too!
His background is filming commercials for food, so he's always had the equipment and skill set.
I mean, he was already a professional in the commercial video industry. He wasn't starting out from scratch like some kid hoping to make it big with a Nikon 3400.
I just love there is no: screaming, yelling, in your face, over the top....just good content that is easy to listen to and watch....and I actually learn something...hmmm...can't ask for more than that!
I immediately had the name Joshua W come to mind.
When Glen put the bread in the oven, my mind went "Okay, this is where some modern RUclipsr would insert their ad of 'what do you do while waiting for your bread to bake? Play Raid: Shadow Legends!'" xD
Totally agree, so sick of hysterical youtubers. Feels like you are watching someone in the middle of a manic fit, so disingenuous. Glen and Jules are just so relaxing to watch, and the content is so informative. I also love how they aren't afraid to share their fails with us.
Agree, those typically american videos are horrible to watch.
Completely agree. You either have an interest in something or you don't. If you need someone treating you like a 5 year old child to keep you watching something that you find boring, the video content really isn't for you.
The subscriber count and views of each video just goes to show you don't need any of this over-the-top stuff. There are a few gems like this on RUclips, and they are channels I subscribe to pretty quickly (usually on the second video with the notification bell). Yet these other channels practically beg everyone to subscribe every 5 minutes.
Yah, I’d like to see more of this charming young man….glad you added Jules into the production, later. I really enjoy her insights. Thanks for providing this for our enjoyment.
YES PLEASE! I would definitely LOVE to see you reupload old videos, especially at a higher resolution. Especially that BUTTER video! 🤤
17 years ago - and as captivating as it is today. Clear instructions, no music and sound recipes. My very favourite cooking channel. 😊
2023, and I just found you. Thank you Glen and Julie. I love spending time with good people, and like learning things about cooking as well.
Many years layer and Glen is still working in his (much more sumptous) kitchen, giving instructions, measurements, explaining clearly, the same easy patter, no forced jollity. And - THANK GOODNESS - no intrusive music. Little has changed in the formula and the steady rise in subscribers confirms that Glen and Julie are doing it just right. Her entrance and their interaction made it so much more personal. Super channel!❤
Very cool! Maybe this can become a sort of "throwback thursday" series?
Yes please!
I gonna say Throwback Tuesday. 😏
Glen has such a natural, relaxing, confident presence on camera, pretty wild he's performed at this level in his first vid.
A natural teacher
i was thinking the same thing!
@@riddlydiddlyimawantedmanin4442 wasnt he mentioned he make kfc ads or something
He’s outstanding
It's nice to see the progression with the use of the studio with its improved ergonomics for filming, the greatly improved sound quality and the introduction of Jules for tasting. I'd love to see more of these.
OH, YES. More of the early ones, please! Especially the ones with Julie in them too.. Awesome.
Omgerd it’s baby glen!
Holy moly.
first thing i said was "he has colored hair!!"
I enjoy going back and watching the older episodes. Please put them back up. They are, as you said, the history of the channel.
I’d love to see more of the older videos. They will always be very informative and interesting to watch. Your talent for producing excellent videos was very evident even way back then. ❤️
You seem to have always had a great demeanour and presentation from the start.
That's a good idea. It's like looking a pictures of parents when they were young and we weren't around.
I see someone has a good taste in Medium format film cameras 😉
What does medium format film mean
@@n7b302 instead of everyday 35 mm sized film frames, those cameras use 120mm sized film, for bigger higher quality pictures. This of course predates digital tech.
I shot with a Fuji 6x7 in college that was on loan (early 2000s). What a great camera. I had a lot of fun shooting, developing film, and making prints with medium and large format. I sure do miss it.
Seems to be a Mamiya fan - me too - still have a C330 ( and a Yashica ) - ah the good old days
@@amyv.2130 Ahh the old analog age
I like seeing how you progressed! Without the historical context its hard to tell
Keep them coming Glen. Love seeing the old videos!
I loved this, and would welcome regular “throw-back” episodes!
Oh. Yes. I’d LOVE to see more of these!
Thank you for bringing this video back. It's interesting to see and hear some of the history behind your channel and learn.
Yes! We need a throwback Thursday!!!! This was great! Thank you!
Great idea Glen, keep em coming.
I'd like more Wednesday night one-pot dinners too, I assume axe competitions are off for the time being but still - miss those dishes!
Enjoy watching young Glen but I really love current Glen and Jules 🙂. Keep em coming!
That was a great look at how this all started. Yes, I would love to see more early videos.
Love the old video! Definitely would be interested in seeing more. Again, thank you for all the joy your videos have brought during this odd pandemic time we are in!
Very fun Glenn! Thanks for sharing
Still relevant, still informative. .....
More more more please
Always the professionals and down to earth with no B.S. ❤❤❤
Great video!! The basics done right. The million dollar question though: did removing the original videos actually help the channel in the end (albeit as you say, at the cost of removing certain traces of the channel's origins)?
Exactly
what a great idea! Throwback Episodes. I love it. And it was a great video, easy, clean cut, nicely done.
OK Glen, you made me cry.. I miss my mom, and I miss my grandmother.. I miss watching them bake bread
Yeah, keep’em coming, Glen. 😊👍🏼
I've watched a few of these originals from years ago back when they were still up. Enjoyed them as a historical look into the life and times of Glen And Friends.
I love watching older videos of all kinds, and would enjoy seeing more.
Glen, you don't change at all. Same mannerisms and awesome well of knowledge.
Hellz yes we'd love to see more!!!!!
Nooo I love finding old videos from channels I love!!!! Thanks Glen!
Glen, I Loved your throwback to your beginning RUclips video!!!! Yes, I would Love to see more of your beginning You Tube videos!!!!
Love the throwback Glen! It still provides content without all the cooking :)
More older videos please. They may be older, but are still relevant. Thanks!👍😊
Loved this first video. I also missed Jules. Glad she's part of the show now. Love this channel and always look forward to new episodes. Thanks for the rerun.
It's amazing how you have the same mannerisms to this day!
Yippee! It's not always about the $ glad you are sharing older content with us! Love it 💕
I like the throwback, it's really cool to see the history of the channel and how it evolved over time.
Not sure why this has come up in my feed. Love it so much. The early days. Thanks Glen & Jules 🇦🇺❤️❤️
I loved it. Thank you for posting.
You were a natural from the beginning!
I love seeing older videos!
Enjoyed watching this early video. Looking forward to more oldies but goodies. Missed your lovely wife though.
Fantastic! I would love to see more classic videos!
Glen, an Excellent video! When I first discovered your channel, I started watching a good deal of your earliest content.
You are a very good teacher, sir!
I’m definitely up for more throwback videos.
I did see the butter making vid. I enjoyed it very much, so I'm pleased you have brought back the bread to go with the homemade butter.... Yum.
MOAR! PLEASE MOAR! History is everything. Where you came from and hopefully where youll go.
What beautiful loaves. This has me in the mood to make bread today. :)
I always find it hard to go back and look at old pictures and videos of people when they were a lot younger; it makes me feel so sad that we age and eventually pass away... It’s nice to look at the past but I always treasure the present and future and the hope it brings...🇨🇦
Yes continue bringing back some of these videos...
I want to make bread 🥖 now
Your style hasn’t changed through the years. It’s just as good
I have enjoyed each of these with the flavor only Glen provides! The idea of throwback Thursday to revisit the older videos is intriguing!
The high quality and old school feel (both in you being younger and feel) gives a really weird feeling.
Like a time machine almost.
Excellent stage presence for a first video! I would like to see more of them.
Keep tbem coming i watch everyone
I think this is actually a really cool idea! The only detractor to that old content was the low quality upload limitations of the era like you said. What you had to show and say was not all that different from what you're doing today.
I've actually gone back and watched some of that old content over the past year, and other than the 4:3/240p quality, it still holds up.
I did not see anything low quality. I would like to see the recipe though.
@@nealgrey6485 He said they only allowed 40p when this was originally up loaded. This ran at 720p automatically.
@@nealgrey6485 He said he was going to upload at higher quality. I take from that his originals are high quality, but got uploaded much lower back in the day due to restrictions.
CLASSIC! The way my Mom made bread in the 'Good Housekeeping' cookbook era. Today, things go better with Julie. BUT you had all the necessary talent and skills right out of the box.
I absolutely would love to see more of the early videos! Can’t get enough cooking education 😊
I would love to see more of these! It's like watching childhood videos of a friend! Lol
Yes, I would absolutely love to see some of your older videos.
Love those countertops. Really interested to see what Jules looked like when she was younger. Glen except for the hair you haven’t changed much. Sound quality is what I noticed the most
This was such a fun look back! I would love to see more 😁
Omg! My wife and I love bringing back the old vids! Shout out to the beer calendar!
Yes, more archived videos, please! Hope you have a fantastic weekend!
May we please have some more? This is such a lovely video, as are all of your videos. Thank You for warming our hearts every week!
Loved it, keep doing this. You were so young, did miss Jules.
I really enjoyed watching this. I hope that you do more of these.
Glen, I literally signed in tonight to watch old videos on another channel and THIS video from 2 years ago, of you bringing back videos from 16 years ago, was suggested to me. Now I finally understand why so many channels have lost their old videos, as I am often disappointed to find. I am so glad you undertook this and I am looking forward to watching these fabulous old videos of OLD videos.
This was fun. I am so glad you reshared this video.
Such a nice episode! And so professional and clearly-explained right from the start!
I enjoyed this chance to see the primordial kitchen. A great recipe too!
Wahoo! I love the old videos, too! Thanks, Glen!
Yes please show these videos. These are part of the history of the channel. Thanks for adding the captions.
Thanks for uploading this Glen, I know when I started following I dug back to your oldest videos at the time and it was obvious that it wasn't really the "starting point" of the channel. Fantastic to get this glimpse even farther back!
Omg you still have all those that were deleted??? WE NEED ALL THE CONTENT GLAD!!! The content gremlins are hungry xD
Bring back more from the archive, Glen!
Absolutely loved watching that! I don’t know your career history is but you were born to have a cooking show. You’re such a natural! Always appreciate your videos. I do miss seeing Jewels at the end.
Throwbacks every Thursday would be awesome! I watched the butter video a couple of days ago & it was great to see!
I enjoyed watching, I definitely would like to see more, please.
Thanks for sharing, Glen. I'd love to see more of these older videos!
These will be fun to watch. Please put them out there for us to enjoy!
Would love to see the older videos!! Please add them to a playlist for us!!
EXCELLENT TO THE POINT, OTHER THAN NEEDING MORE LIGHT, I LOVE THIS TUTORIAL VIDEO, I VOTE 🗳 YES 👍 BRING BACK MORE OF YOUR ORIGINAL VIDEOS ♥️✔️
How lovely! It's so interesting what has changed and what hasn't. You have learned to use transparent containers, so we can see what the ingredients and the process look like. You are much more relaxed, your scripts are more conversational, and your production is more professional. But "Glen As We Know Him Now" is already there. You have the same quiet passion, the same clarity, the same groundedness. All we need is Jules!
wow... how awesome is that..blast form the past..
Glen: I make product commercials for a living.
Also Glen: But I also love cooking, and I can show you how to do it, too.
PS: Let's make those shirts a thing again.
Absolutely love the throwback.
Haven't changed a bit! Love it!
Love the looking back to earlier days - gives an accurate depiction of channel growth 😊 Hope to see more return.
I am a history buff and a cooking video lover, this hits both so I vote yes for more like this. Can't know where your going without knowing where you have been. Thanks for all your video's.
