      Because finding the angle is equivalent to finding the direction.
      Alpha is the angle between A and R. Alpha tells you w.r.to A what is the direction of R.

    sir i have a doubt u did this derivation for parallelogram law of vector addition .
    will it also come for triangle law of vector addition ??

      brother obviously it will come, triangle and parallelogram are just two methods to find resultant and indeed they give the same result

      They are helpful.
      Like if the angle between forces or any fields is 60deg, 90deg or 120deg straightaway we can write the answers.
      Those points are useful in laws of motion,
      Gravitation, electrostatics, magnetism, wave optics, AC and oscillation chapters

    Sir I have a question. resultant of two vectors can also be given by the dot product of two vectors?

      No.
      For example if the angle between two vectors of equal magnitude is 90 degree then their resultant is root2 times magnitude of the vector.
      But their dot product will be zero.
      (Since cos90=0)

      You can understand like this also 👇
      When you add two vectors you get "RESULTANT"
      When you multiply vectors you get "PRODUCT"

      in this situation since hypotenuse is known (magnitude of B will the hypotenuse in triangle SNP) we are using sine and cosine functions (if adjacent or opposite sides are known then we can use tan function)
