    Lisa, I have to tell you, I just enjoy listening to you with your cute little Massachusetts accent. Haha. Amazing how many of us can simply enjoy the everyday meanderings of total strangers. It’s kind of relaxing. I grew up in Wakefield, MA, but never picked up the accent, because my parents had other out-of-state influences. If I were still able to do the hiking I used to do, I’d try to contact you for a hike. I’m in Maine. Happy travels!

    The chaos of disorganization is what half of the car/van dwellers are escaping. I just saw another video of a van dweller that was open enough to show how messy her vehicle had gotten. Tbh, I couldn’t even watch the video, it was like a laundry bomb had gone off inside. I’m not judging in anyway, just revealing what exasperates my anxiety lol.

      I think they make a little smaller fridges but I already had this one, I went with the jackery because it was smaller and cheaper, I have the goal zero 1000 now in my cargo van. I never had a problem with the fridge draining the jackery once I installed a small solar panel on the roof

    If you need more space get a trailer hitch and a hitch haul cargo rack. Fuel economy hit is maybe 2 mpg on a gen 2 .

    • @EfficientRVer
      @EfficientRVer 4 года назад

      Definitely an option, but if you can just take less stuff and keep it all in the car, so much the better.. I haven't added one to my Prime yet, but I have a Harbor Freight $40 steel cargo carrier and a receiver hitch that I've used a lot on my Gen2. I got (and slightly modified) an adapter which goes into the 1.25in receiver, which creates a much higher-up 2 inch receiver. That way, the cargo carrier would clear curbs when parking, and not drag when driving through a gully or a steep driveway entrance. The whole receiver-hitch, adapter, and carrier setup is pretty heavy before you even put stuff on it, but I did use it for things like carrying a new 80-gallon hot water tank down the interstate at 65mph! If going the cargo-carrier route, move up a size or two in tires, get XL (extra load) tires, and inflate them to around the max-weight-carrying pressure stated on the sidewall. This adds safety margin for the extra weight, and gains you back the ground clearance the weight takes away. I strongly recommend Michelin X-Ice3 snows for this purpose, and I personally run them year at 50psi at all 4 corners. A solid choice is 10mm wider tires than stock, but stick with the same 65 aspect ratio. This raises the car 6.5mm, about 1/4 inch. The high inflation pressure raises it more, too. If you don't think a cargo carrier will sag the back that much, you're wrong, so this is really just getting you back to stock ride height. I use 195/65R15XL on Gen2, vs 185/65R15 stock. And 205/65R15XL vs stock 195/65 on (Gen3, PiP, Gen4, and) Prime. I found much-improved cornering and handling over stock tires as a side benefit, so good that I run on the snows year round. I got 63k miles out of them on my Prime!!! Shockingly, no measurable mpg penalty either. I'm currently running 205/70 on the Prime, much taller, but I recommend against it unless you have special clearance needs like me, and are willing to accept somewhat squirmier handling for it.

    Lisa, do you charge your dometic fridge from the main battery? If so, doesn't that increase the number of times your car starts in the night when using climate control? I am in FL and even when it is not super hot outside I have to use the climate control because of the humidity...

    • @EfficientRVer
      @EfficientRVer 4 года назад +2

      If you are in Ready mode to run AC already, the car uses 350ish watts just to run its own computers. Plus whatever it uses for the AC and fan. The new 12v compressor fridges, even much cheaper ones than hers, will use an average of 8 to 20 watts when running inside an air conditioned car, and usually a max of 35-45 watts at startup or in a hot car or when working hard to freeze stuff you just put into it warm. So, when already in Ready mode in a Prius, running a modern 12v compressor fridge, is pretty much a freebie and a no-brainer. The weather changing even a tiny bit, or turning the fan up a click or two, or changing your AC set temp a degree or two, would have more effect on how often your engine kicks on for the AC, than any effects from running the fridge. While the car is Ready, definitely get all your phone, laptop, power-bank, and other charging done, too.

    Hi Lisa! love your videos, and had a quick question about your jackery/fridge setup... I was curious as to how it's working out. Meaning, how long you can run your fridge with the little jackery, and how exactly you charge it as you go. Do you mean you charge it while the priius is running on the gas engine going from one location to another? Thanks! :)

So you could still lounge AND have storage. Plus it looks like the rear seat does fold down flat. By taking it out, you should be able to make it perfectly flat. Fruitarian, have you explored whether the car can be opened form the outside , if you a have the key fob inside with you. I heard that you should keep fob in a faraday pouch or maybe even wrapped in foil.

    Wow! I am so impressed! You got a bed, a fridge, camping supplies, essentials and it even has tables and a basement! I've only just started on this adventure with a minivan, sleeping in it twice now. I can't wait to take more trips! Thanks for sharing all your info. :)

    You do just keep your 12 V refrigerators plugged into the car when you’re driving you don’t use a Jackary power pack all the time do you!

      It looks like a peltier to me. Frankly they're cheap as dirt. Strange things can happen with fridge pricing. I have a 40 litre compressor fridge/freezer in my van with a plastic casing. I got it between Christmas and new years at $150 discount but the same brand with a steel case is more than double the price. And the 18 litre version of the same thing is STILL more expensive than the 40 litre plastic cased one.....

    You need to watch out for electromagnetic waves affecting your body. Your battery is too close to where you sleep. Try putting some foils on the side of the battery closer to you to block the EMF.

      Greenies mate. Don't realize the stuff that is done to make batteries and somehow many of these people FORGIVE the stuff done to make the batteries JUST BECAUSE they're recyclable. Yet nobody has yet taken any to a recycling centre....
