    Off topic, but RUclips shows me adds in between the video even if you have opted out to have out of adds in your videos. I got adds about soap, clothing and nasal spray. 🤷‍♂

      OK. Here's how thaty works. I have YT ads turned on because if I don't, you and no one else will ever see my work , as YT will not be able to sell ads in it, so they won't show it. That is unavoidable. I do make pennies off those.
      What I don't do is record, in my own voice, adds for webhost, subscription services, mattresses, etc. etc. in the middle of my videos for that cash grab.
      In the past, I have worked with some companies that I am friendly with and done "sponsored content" in this way, actually using their products in my builds - and I'm still quick to flash their logos in a lot of my work because we're still friends. exchange for videos.
      I am open to these types of arrangements again, but I'm very selective about the products, companies, their eco footprints, pay structures, etc. Sadly, I've yet to find any new clients who pass my smell test, so the more I do this the more turned off I am to sponsored content - as a maker AND a viewer.
      However I PROUDLY endorse NewPerspectivesMusic.com, SqWAYreTools.com and GuineaPigTanks.com. You should, too :)

    In my opinion, you're the gold standard for content creators. you're solid on your morals (only working with companies you believe in), and you actually put in effort to your content (no half assed nonsense, just high quality content) and (sustainable) musical innovation.

    Some people (me) much prefer the sound of nylon vs steel stringed acoustic guitars. Nylon string guitar builds are almost nonexistent on YT. But my favorite luthier is, as usual, right on the job!

    Seeing the tearout you were getting with the luon reminded me that growing up, my dad only ever used it as underlayment for flooring. Constantly would chip from the edges, and end up in long fibrous splinters. Can't even recall if it being wet would ever have stopped it shredding...
    That said, I loved seeing the mini version of this build, and I can't wait to see this one come together

    Luan/Lauan used to be sold as "Philippine Mahogany" back when I was in High School ***cough 1980 - 1984*** and I didn't know what that was until getting into construction after graduating. Turned out "Philippine Mahogany" covers several different woods and none are actual Mahogany of any sort.

      oh for sure. I think the expensive "go decks" for sale are a means of capitalizing on an old fashioned method I'm doing. When I've seen this done, the artist has been using wood dowels. If I've made any change or contribution to the practice at all, it's using fiberglass driveway markers instead :)

    This is so weird. I recently refurbished a classical guitar and was worried about tension on the neck if I put acoustic strings on so I opted for Ernie Ball Ernsto Palla Nylon Ball End's. I have to say they sound fantastic. After seeing this I think I'm going to add an external pickup instead of the contact pickup I currently have. Thanks for the inspiration. Oh by the way it also has one of your adjustable bridges with the coins on it with some amount of modification. The thread on the coin is not sound but I packed it out with some small washers and intend to tap some new coins in the future.

    • @timsway
      @timsway  6 месяцев назад +2

      I like nylon strings! Just remember you can;t use a magnetic pickup with them, only piezo, microphone, etc. Glad to hear the bridge is working out! Yea, tapping coins can be a little tricky. Sometimes it takes a few tries , I think becasue they are not flat, y'know? tapping through some dead president's head :)

    Do ever run into problems with totally flat tops? Most luthiers make radiused tops and backs. Generally flat tops run into problems with warping and rotation from string tension over time.

      When I make them from the closet doors, no. Or at least I should say, not yet. When I make basses I have to double up the top. When I use wood I had one that got a little wonky because I made it way too thin.

    My thinking with CNC machines in woodworking is that they're a safer, more accurate and (potentially) less wasteful alternative to using a router and template. Routers are accepted in woodwork, and aren't considered cheating, so why should CNC be? Making the files is a skill in itself too.

    the guitar looks pretty cool, but classical guitars have such shapes for a reason - they are designed to amplify the resonance of the top, transmit the vibration to the back and let the amplified sound out of the resonance hole, which is in the very center
    this technology has evolved for hundreds of years
    no offense, but the question is: do your kinky shapes serve this purpose or do they disrupt the whole process?
    peace, bro

    • @timsway
      @timsway  6 месяцев назад +2

      There are myriad things in life done the way they are for a reason, but that is no reason to stop trying to innovate or experiment with new ways to do things. New and better ways are always an option, for everything! Not that I'm necessarily the guy to find them, but I'm not afraid to look. T
      Traditional classical guitars are also no 2" thick, strapped with high tech electronics or made with bolt on necks from reclaimed closet doors! This is not intended to be anything like classical guitars of the past. lol!
      My motivations are more about usability and sustainability (in the ecological sense) than creating the same, "perfect resonance" of the past. We can do that in the mix now. and waste way fewer trees trying to get there.
      The shape is an experiment in ergonomics and comfort when placed on the alternate leg, like many classical guitarists do, based on a smaller instrument I recently completed where that cutaway is essential for sitting and playing.
      Hope that clears up my methods and madness! If you watch more of my videos from the past 10 years, it'll illuminate my methods and motivations more.

    • @m5chk1
      @m5chk1 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@timsway it's great that you like experimenting which you are really good at
      but i was astonished how they perfected the classical guitar concept over the centures that it's hardly possible to bring something to the table besides the gutar's look
      i've tried restoring and rebuilding some soviet acoustic guitars and the only way to bring them to life is to change the desing toward their classical analogs (besides the looks of cause)
      which brings me to the idea that the only path of true experimenter is to focus on electrical insruments or some hybrids
      lots of love and respect for what you do!😊

    • @timsway
      @timsway  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@m5chk1 indeed. It's hard to reinvent the wheel, but there are always subtle ways we can change and modify it to do different, specific things. Quite often in my experiments I find my way back to the "classic" way of doing things because it is indeed "the best" way. But I'm stubborn and gotta learn that for myself. LOL. Every once in a while, I come up with something worth pursuing :)
