It’s interesting that to this day, Stern holds a grudge against Imus, yet Imus harbors no ill will. Yes, Imus probably stole some concepts from Stern in the 80s and I suppose Stern has a right to be bitter about that. But I think most of Stern’s hatred and disdain is rooted in jealousy whether or not he and his legions of followers are willing to admit it. Don Imus had a swagger and cool in his prime that Stern admired and knew deep down he could never match. With the possible exception of Wolfman Jack, nobody understood how to exploit the medium of radio better than Don Imus. I don’t care if it rains or freezes, I’m gonna miss you I-man.

VirtualWoodshed Imus said last week that he didn’t remember being mean to Howard, but he was on coke, and abusing alcohol, so it’s possible that he was, but he just doesn’t remember. I remember Don on Stern’s show many times on NBC. If Imus hated him, he never would have done that.

I'm sure that Stern cried all the way to the bank.

Add this to the list of people Stern was a mean to and that was Soupy Sales who didn't say mean things about anyone. Stern talked crap about Soupy Sales. Once Soupy Sales passed on, Stern claims I was having some "mental issues" as he was saying those mean things about Soupy Sales, but thought Soupy Sales was an ok DJ. What a jerk Stern was and still is. Check out when Stern had the shorted lived talk show on tv and how he treat and talked down to his "guests" One made Gene Simmons of Kiss look like an angel as Stern show his mean side. And that is saying a lot. Gene usually is an annoying
      Sorry going on and on.

To be fair, Howard claims everyone stole from him. I guarantee Imus had a big influence on Howard. This is from 73. Imus was doing wild stuff for 1973. Howard was in college at the time. You know Imus had an influence on him. The riff came from Imus supposedly treating Howard like shit at NBC when he first got there, then started kissing his ass once Howard started getting ratings. Like sitting in on writing meetings, calling in to his show, or even calling Howards mother on his show. I think Imus deserves more credit than what Howard gives him, but the beef was more personal than professional. I can't really blame the guy. I hold grudges as well.

Rest in peace I- Man. Now that the different periods of radio keep Fading Into the past, those of us in broadcasting will always remember the Larger than Life figures like Don Imus. I own Newstalk 1240, wpbq, a radio station in Jackson Mississippi, and I had Imus in the Morning several years ago when he was on syndicated Network distribution and we had a huge audience during that time. It is with regret that we acknowledge Don Imus in his passing during this Christmas season of 2019, as was announced on radio network news today December 27th, 2019.

Rest in Peace Imus, i cant count how many times I listened to Imus on the Radio in my car. And then when he simulcast Imus in the Morning on Fox Business TV you had the funniest crew and some good political quests

Starting at 0:22, the picture of Imus with a cake of soap in his mouth-that's about right. Seriously, I will miss him. Also, at 0:22, the Mazda spot spoofs "Old Betsy Goes Boing Boing".

At 6:33, you can hear the Crusaders playing "Put It Where You Want It." Imus often referred to this as his theme song. (And he asked that lady to sing Moon River because it was his favorite song.)

*DID STERN TAKE IMUS' PLAYBOOK, THEN JUST PERFECT IT? STERN WAS INFLUENCED BY IMUS. IMUS WAS A NAME BEFORE STERN CAME ALONG*

RIP I-Man. Not hating, but your genius shrunk proportionately to Stern's genius growing. It used to be easier to be considered funning in the 70s and 80s. Stern changed all of that. He raised the bar. Greatly. Actually, Stern's early work doesn't hold up either but it was still far better than any competition. I respect Don though as someone who persevered and kept coming back against considerable odds at times. His life would make a good movie I would guess.

In my opinion the difference between Imus & Stern is that Stern got better and better whereas the opposite was true of Imus to the point he became boring in later years. This is an example of when he was good!

Easier for iheart radio to press a button and play the same 20 songs on every station everyday. I even hear the exact same shows and the djs say the same things it sucks. I listen to college stations with the goofy djs who play what they want it's more entertaining.

Also, at least part of Imus' show was simulcast on the FM; this would have been at the point 97.1 was running the automated "Rock Pile" for the rest of the day (outside the Sunday morning and late night public affairs programming - and probably whatever of "Monitor" could be carried, pre-1975). It's possible some of Mr. Feaster's 1972 uploads of Imus airchecks were recorded on the FM, as it sounded of better quality than AM (not that I'm complaining, mind you - not at all). In short, people tuning in to WNBC-FM would have heard "Imus in the Morning."
Also . . . wasn't it around this time the NBC hourly time tone was ~750 Hz? I know earlier it was 732 Hz . . .
And at what point did NBC switch from that news sounder as on this clip to the one used for a time in 1974 (and switching from "NBC News on the Hour" to "NBC Radio News")?
