Thanks for the great lesson... The graphics really help to learn how to count... One suggestion: If we have "1 2 + a", instead of counting it as "DDDU", it would be better to count it as "One Two and a". That way, we know what beat we are on. And it is already implied that the numbered beats, (as well as the "and" beat) are downstrums. If we just count "Down Down and a" it does not tell us which beat we are on.
Hello Lauren, Great lesson, thanks! Quick question: It looks like you hold your pick using the thumb and middle finger instead of index finger, is that just a personal preference ?
Old habit from being self taught. My guitar teachers tried to get me out of the habit for years. It's comfortable for me. When I strum a lot I use both my first and second but it's better to hold with your first. But I had been playing like that for about 10 years before I got lessons 🤦♀️
Lauren - Very helpful lesson - I looked at others and came back to yours. I noticed everyone seems to go from the bar Bm to the open G instead of just going to the bar G which seems to be more straightforward to me as more of a beginner / intermediate. The sound seems to stay pretty close between the two. Is there a reason why the open G is always used?
For many people bar chords are harder. I have to listen to the song but I think most people play it with the Open G. I'm not sure how the stones did it on the record.
Thanks for the great lesson...At 11:50, which shows the suggested pattern for the split measure G and F. I notice there is an "UP" strum for "+". Does that mean the strumming pattern temporarily changes to an eighth note strumming pattern? ("+" is normally "DOWN" strum for sixteenth note strumming pattern).
A thought from the peanut gallery!...Just a thought off the top of my head, Your sale ...You might want to extend it until everyone gets their What I call the bailout payments start or maybe a week after, Just a thought to help out in the moment. Peace!
Hey Scott, Thanks so much. I did extend it through my birthday April 8th. I am debating continuing it through the month of April since it sounds like this is going to be going on for a while. I will record a new video announcement for release on Monday. But I like the way you think :)
I normally love your lessons but this one was very confusing for me. Especially at the end of the intro where you have the G Am G Am G but yhou don't demo it and you just contuse on to the next step.
@@LaurenBateman I stuck with it and finally got it. I don't give up easily. I still say you are the best instructor I've seen. I watch all your video's and to be quite honest I should sign up for your lessons. I also watched your recent video on Bad Instructors and I totally agree with all of it and I have personally experienced it. Another problem I ran into was what I call "kid in the candy store". There is so much available out there it is hard to choose and to keep from moving from one thing to the next without first completing the first thing. Blues, Bluegrass, rock, folk, funk, pop, the list is endless. Thanks for all your hard work.
Lauren did you put these leaf stickers on your guitar and if so where could I get some I have a few small scratches on my expensive Takamine and would love to hide them thanks I like your lessons for refresher courses

Hi Ravi, that's why I use the graphic and singing. Got to do it both ways because people learn differently. So I mix it up.
Hello Lauren,
Great lesson, thanks!

This is correct, the difference comes from playing and 8th note pattern vs a 16th not pattern.
1 + 2 +
DU DU
1 e + a 2 e + a
DU DU DU DU
I’ll try this a little bit further down the line... nice to know it’s here, though.
Hey Luke, thank you so much for watching the video.
Can you do this as a play along series please
I will try. I've been focusing on trying to get new songs out first.

Sorry to hear that. This is an older video before I came down with my teaching format. I may redo it.
