I was unfortunately born into this religion. Always had a feeling that something was off. My parents were brainwashed into worshiping Moon, a false messiah who claims he is Jesus.
My dad wasted his college degree for this religion, he spent all his time fundraising working like a slave for Sung Myong Moon and his family. So did all of the other church members. This video doesn't even scratch the surface of what goes on behind the curtains. Churches are a tax free business and Moon died with a net worth of $900 million, meanwhile all the followers lived in absolute poverty.
So I understand why Tetsuya Yamagami did what he did because this church ruined not only his life but millions of others as well.
edit: I don't condone what he did, just saying I'm not surprised by this event in the slightest.. also my family has left the cult a while back, we are doing fine now.
It was surprising that he took out a famous political leader, I think that job is very dangerous.

The money is also given to politicians who will endorse them, and other business investments to make more money. The church also created The Washington Times Newspaper. My little brother snuck up to the top floor once. It’s a really elegant interior, but he said the top floor was super dingy and dimly lit.. it was after normal working hours so he thought it’d be empty, but after going up he saw a bunch of church members hunched over, just typing away in the dark. Then they all turned their heads at the same time and just stared at him. He got out after being chased by a security guard.

Korea had something similar happen (they were divided mainly by the US who btw continued the "comfortwomen" system that japan had), it took about until the 90s for there to be any semblance of "democracy" (really just a corrupt oligarchy), seriously they elected the daughter of Park Chung-hee who was a dictator (to clarify he is popular with the older generations iirc as hes considered responsible for Koreas current economic "prosperity", which again mostly goes to the rich, chaebols, etc), unsurprisingly President Park II is tried for corruption a year after her presidency ended, she then gets pardoned 3 years later.

Moonies are the least of your worries in the US, where Mormons and JW's abound. You can thank the Protestant Reformation for that.
Yeah, Moon has been here long before and has paid politicians for testimonies to gain power & influence in America. The church also created The Washington Times Newspaper to spread their influence. My lil brother snuck into it once, saw some weird stuff on the top floor.
I was born into this crap. Members are brainwashed into working their behind off for no pay, and it's all for a false messiah. The recruiters or "spiritual parents" target young college students (basically a pyramid scheme for the arranged marriage thing, recruit 3 people, you get to get married). Anyways, my Dad ended up wasting his college degree for this church, gave up everything. We grew up poor. They go around in vans fund raising 12+ hours a day, sometimes no sleep if they don't hit money quotas. The movement is still extremely prevalent in parts of the US, it's a gigantic religion, but luckily most of the other 2nd generation people in my state seem to have left the church. Doubt I'll ever become religious after all this stuff.
So basically Scientology in Japan.
unfortunately the UC also taken over america, where they are called Moonies.
And they were so unhinged that they started worshipping AR15, the rifle. Yes, they worship a gun as they do with Christ, or I dare say the AR15 might even be above Christ in their "church".
They also have scientology.
Moonies are worse than Hubbardites. At least the "scifi author enthusiasts" aren't actively destroying a country for revenge.
Scientology is worse, no? Did the moon cult force this woman to give away all her money? Or was she just a nutjob? Scientology holds its members hostage and doesn't let them leave and harasses them when they do. But, people still join of their own free will. Communists don't give people a choice. Once they capture a society, everyone becomes a slave.

Wikipedia says he was a communist that was pro-China...so no loss that he's gone.
Yeah there’s a great video by the channel Spectacles about the events surrounding this time, defo check it out
It was a Ninja 🥷🏿
Impressive that they digged a deep investigation into motivation behind the assassination when it was already obvious who did it. I truly believe the fact that they did this is the very prime reason why homicide rate in Japan is low. Most other places would simply jail the person and give 0 f*ck for the reasons why he decided to assassinate someone. When you study reasons into homicide it helps you to prevent future incidents.
I saw a video explaining this phenomenon. Japanese people are more likely to assign collective blame rather than individual blame. When someone does a heinous crime, their superiors and acquaintances are also likely to be blamed. As a collective society, they're more likely to assign blame that encompasses the entire group instead of solely the single individual.
I’m personally quite skeptical of the accuracy of their homicide rates in Japan, especially if they’re calculating based on convictions and not dead bodies, because until fairly recently there was a statue of limitation on homicide, which meant if you didn’t catch the killer in a set amount of time, they would get away with it, even if you later found irrefutable proof of their guilt they couldn’t be charged for the crime. So, depending on how Japan’s murder rate is calculated, it could be quite misleading, perhaps it’s still dramatically lower than other countries but still not AS low as the statistics insinuate.
It’s something I’d have loved to verify myself but due to the data coming from Japanese source it really requires a Japanese speaking individual to truly be able to investigate the integrity of the data being used for this statistic.
Regardless, I think the most simplest explanation for why this investigation occurred is the fact it was a high profile political figure that was assassinated, with it occurring right in front of a multitude of main stream journalists/TV crews who captured everything as it unfolded.
The innovative and unique murder weapon on its own was also enough to ensure it’d be impossible for any member of the general public to be satisfied with a reductive explanation of “political extremism” as the motive for the murder. The sympathetic backstory of the killer also seems to go viral online instantly after the crime occurred, adding even more intrigue. Bizarrely specific crimes always prompt the public’s desire for equally specific explanations.
@@Sanakudou Good point, reminds me of their homeless population rate. The streets are generally clean, few homeless people, but in reality there are many homeless people that sleep in an office or a capsule hotel. They try their best to blend in with society due to the stigma and shame.
In regards to the murder rate I think you're right that it's much lower than other countries, but it could be difficult to get an accurate number.
Well, it is a huge political assassination, so obviously they need to question the motive, whether or not there are foreign powers connected to the assassin and so on.
there was a story on reddit, where a foreigner living in japan got arrested. (which was a misunderstanding that he was carrying drugs which were actually his meds) he was in for 7ish days and the police dig up his whole background. Like a wholef fat book of info on this guy. mind blowing

Now, that's a display of how complex human society is.
No that is just high moral society sympathize for the less fortunate
How people don't have much empathy for corrupt political leaders...
It makes a sort of good sense if you think about it. They hate political violence and are sad to see Abe, someone whom they knew as their leader and who some of them voted for, die violently. Yet at the same time they understand Yamagami's situation and the pain and misery that drove him to do what he did, basically take justice into his own hands when the corruption of the system denied him it. So they have sympathy for both men, and would save both if they could.
Its a sign of schizophrenia as well. Abe should or could be brought up on corruption charges long before being gunned down by a lunatic from behind.

Its not that deep lol. A political assassination is extremely uncommon and it happened only once in Japan’s post ww2 history. Naturally people will want to understand the motive. @@TheDanieru The state is as different as the sun is to the moon when compared to cults.
Only a moron would think otherwise.
What's interesting is that many people considered Shinzo Abe an ultra-nationalist and anti-Korean, but he was actually teaming up with the anti-Japanese left-wing Korean cult.
I agree
I am Japanese, but I have never thought of Shinzo Abe as a conservative or a nationalist. Since he became prime minister, the number of immigrants in Japan has increased dramatically, and he's brought a lot of foreign tourists into Japan, making Japan a tourist nation, and he's been so focused on diplomacy with the US that he's sort of done the US's bidding. Abe also gave the Northern Territories to Putin. Most of his policies so far have been liberal-leaning, so I don't understand why he was called conservative or far-right.
The Unification Church is seen in the same light by the Japanese government as with the Korean government, a cult and not readily accepted by the mainstream. Shinzo Abe is anti-Korean in terms of foreign and domestic policy, but he is willing to nudge his bias when it comes to his donors. This dichotomy makes sense.
WTH is "left-wing" about the Moonies?
shinzo is controlled op.

Yeah exactly.
"...he was assainated. But first here's a Displate advertisement."
Oof, that displate ad was tone deaf
Tetsuya Yamagami is a modern hero of Japan!
wth that's insane
Wonder how many people see this stuff parodied in Yakuza/Like a Dragon games without realizing how crazy it actually is.
That's some crazy stuff... maybe that's enough internet for one day.
Is the petition still active
Great video. Honestly never knew about that
Religion is a good way to motivate people to do things that are not in their best interest for someone else.
wauw! thanks
OBF, I appreciate the information you have shared. I had no idea about this.
One suggestion: If you could attenuate the bass in your audio, it would make your voice clearer. You have a pleasant voice, and good pacing, but for me the audio sounds quite muddy.
Bass gives fullness, richness, depth. But treble gives clarity. And for a serious, informative voiceover like this one, clarity is far more important.
Other than that, keep up the good work!
Came here hoping for a video on Soka Gakkai... got another generic video on the Unification Church... I would argue Soka Gakkai (the largest Buddhist cult in Japan) is even more influential in Japanese politics than the Unification Church, but no one in the West ever talks about them...
SGI and Nichiren Shōshū.
It’s their power over media and such that make them unheard of in any media. No different that other powerful societies in the world such as the free masons & skull and bones in America.
It's not hip to talk bad about Eastern "spiritualism". Let's slander Christianity instead (the Moonies aren't actual Christians)
@@lain7758 nobody thinks they're actually Christians. Christians aren't oppressed, get a life.

Good video.
Well done
That Spectacles video sure was good.
Edit: I was making fun of the fact that this video and Spectacle’s video on the same topic came out so close to each other.
We made a community poll 2 months ago, where the winner (This video) would be made: ruclips.net/user/postUgkxATTQYHPLGHkSf2Jyq2tce5qk0ZWrTq4t
We've also had this video ready to publish for well over a week waiting for sponsorship approval.
@@OBFYT I was just giving you guys a hard time, since you both released a video on the same topic very close to each other. The implication wasn’t meant to be taken seriously. I would be extremely impressed if you guys could copy that video to this level of quality in 4 days lol.
Sorry for the confusion!
I wish this was pinned so people can see the OBF reply.
Exactly.
Okay but also, the video that was posted by Spectacles a few days ago was a FOLLOW-UP to the original video they made on the subject literally over a year ago, which has over a million views
So this is kinda a mute point
Shinzo "Abae" 💀
Most vids that aren't Japanese or haafu or foreigners in Japan that speak good Nihongo are not narrating will BUTCHER names, places, etc. 🤣😂😭
Shinzo: Let’s get in the van.
Yamagami: shotgun!
Getting shot in Japan is like getting bitten by a rattlesnake Antarctica
It's like the INC(ph based church) of japan
He was the only guy that spoke out about the mcjabbiemcpoke
Also, he was anti mass immigration.
@@fjorddenierbear4832 Their strict immigration laws is what's about to be their downfall. The average age in Japan is 48, which is the highest in the world. They have more people dying everyday than being born, that's how bad their birthrates are. Controlled immigration and better childcare services are what they need
Wow. That was one calculated hit.
yo that's crazy Urasawa Naoki has warned us
Scientology Moment
Meanwhile in Japan, there’s a video titled “how a cult took over the United States”…
what I was somewhat most surprised by iS...
Not that Japan has deep rooted traditional belief -etc but the cult was revealed be have its origin base from Korea of recent history (1954- which is consider short in Japan)
Yamagami is a hero and Shinzo Abe was a war crime denier.
Dude you are so fast :D it was just two days ago spectacle shared a video.
As mentioned in another comment, this is pure chance. We've had this video in the works for months. As you can see, it won the poll in this community post: ruclips.net/user/postUgkxATTQYHPLGHkSf2Jyq2tce5qk0ZWrTq4t

Japan still producing Epic stories
Just mind bubbling!
In your dreams Japan is officially technologically the most advanced nation on earth. 🎌🗾 You estimate Japan 😂
Maybe Japan's technology is what would save it from low birth rates. Maybe.
Japan seems really advanced with all the robots and vending machines along with the best automobiles and electronic products. But I read in some news articles, Japan’s bureaucracy is really outdated that they still use fax machines. I don’t know how true that is.
@@artman12 He is a blind patriot who can't see that technology won't solve one of the most important problem of Japan today - which is its ageing population and low birthrates that sets a new record low every damn year. Not to mention, suicide rates. Those three are the perfect recipe for extinction.
But maybe technology will solve it. Maybe Japan will be able to clone its citizens and escape extinction.
Japan is dead bro
The technology is new god, isn't it? I'm hearing things like "the technology will save us" decades now. Where is my save?
