One evening in Texas, it was raining particularly hard and I was hydroplaning quite severely even though I wasn’t going very fast (not more than 40 mph on a highway…it was quite hard to see). At one point, my steering wheel was facing completely to the left even though I was trying to keep my GL 550 perfectly straight. I’m guessing it was anticipating a crash, and before I knew it, my seatbelt practically grabbed me and pulled into the seat. It caught me off guard, but it was then that I realized that my Mercedes was trying to protect me. I didn’t even realize that that was a feature for my vehicle. Fortunately, I was able to stabilize the car and keep it from crashing. Needless to say, that scary moment turned me into a Mercedes customer for life!
Yes PreSafe has been standard in all their cars for about a decade now. It was first introduced in 2002. Most people don't know that their Mercedes has it but it is very clever. If it senses an emergency situation like hard braking or skidding etc it will tighten the seat belts, move the seats upright and closes the windows and sunroof. The seats are moved upright to prevent a person from sliding under the belt if a collision occurs and to allow for best use of the airbag and also reducing the momentum you will gain if stopping suddenly and moving forward from a further back position. The windows close because side airbags are more effective when it inflates against the window and it prevents objects from outside from getting in if the car is flipping over or is crashing and also prevents arms from being dangled out while flipping or crashing or people from being ejected. Attention assist also became standard and you'll also see a small coffee cup sign in your instrument cluster. It monitors many parameters to detect drowsiness and will alert you. It even looks at how many times you are pressing buttons (then it thinks you are active) and how many small steering input corrections you make which indicate drowsiness. Another cool feature most don't know about is the recirculation button. If all your windows are down or just one or two etc, keep in the recirculation button and release once the windows start moving and all windows will close. This is good for when seeing truck fumes or smoke or a tunnel up ahead. You hold and release again and all goes back to where it was. Mercedes makes great vehicle with many great thoughtful safety and convenience features most owners don't know about. Dealers should tell customers about these things more.
vgm006 I'm not sure if US laws allow for flashing brake lights. However it is only in hard braking from above a certain speed and is part of presafe. I don't see why they wouldn't include it for the US. Sorry I don't know the exact answer.
This vehicle is an E200. Pre-Safe is standard on all models, but specifications and functionality may vary depending on equipment installed on the vehicle.
Rola Motors Mercedes-Benz My 2017 E180 has only one camera on the windshield next to the rain-sensing wipers and has a Pre-Safe system, does this not include autonomous braking? I'm afraid to try it on my own car
Hello Karim. The one camera is probably for your LED Intelligent Light System. Pre-Safe is standard on all E-Class models as well as Active Brake Assist. If you go to your Assistance Settings you should see the Active Brake Assist option there. Please remember that vehicles specification varies per country.
I love how you refer to the car as her. She's very caring.
jeremyv11000 she is indeed!
My car saw that I was speeding, called the police, had my license suspended, called me an Uber and made me hot cocoa to drink on the ride.
You must be lonely to describe a story like that

It also closes the windows if opened before stop (impact) and disarms the door locks and shuts the engine down after impact.
Yes sir indeed it does! That system is called Post-Safe. Pre-Safe happens before the impact, Post-Safe happens afterwards.
It only closes the windows fully if it’s a rollover, but if it’s not a rollover, it actually opens them a bit to let the airbag smoke get out.
Is Malvin alright? he looks like he stopped in time
Good Morning Dardan! Haha. Yes Melvin is quite alright thank you for asking! ;-)
You Explained better than everyone
The Best Like No Other Mercedes-Benz ❤️
Don't forget it flashes the rear brake lights while coming to a stop in newer models.
does this apply to USA model ?

Malvin looks like he have no power to talk or resist.
We didn't give him any options ;-)
I never knew this feature existed until I had to do an emergency brake in a Audi Q5.
she wakes up the passenger to witness what's gonna happens; )

Child safety locks turn off
Seats are too far back. You loose significant benefit from the system when you’re seat is behind the seatbelt.
Are you slamming on the brakes on a new car from the lot you're selling off to a customer?
No we are not. This is a test vehicle.
why is he saying she to a big s class
Hello Arjen. All mechanical machines are referred to as a "she" - because a female carries.
Hope that makes sense.
Kind Regards,
Logan
