A Day in Mexico

  • It was a bit overwhelming when we first started our third sports camp in Puebla, Mexico; not from stress but by the view that enclosed us. The four volcanoes surrounding us, while a little intimidating, were incredible, which seemed to be as if they were painted across the borders of the clear, blue sky just above the city. It was noticeable throughout the three hours we were there that day (July 13th) that Popo (the volcano to the left in most of the pictures) had started spewing ash and spitting out clouds of smoke alongside Ixta, which had been covered in snow, resulting from its extinction years ago.
Throughout the sports camp, kids were taught that there are obstacles in everyone's life and were comforted by the way in which they should face them. To help understand, a couple were set up with a challenge of stacking cups, but with an obstacle being added. In this case, one kid was being blind-folded, while the other could only use one hand.
The camp concluded with a story of how Jesus healed a girl and raised Jairus's daughter from the dead (as seen in Mark 5:21-43 and Luke 8:40-56). After dancing to our new song, the sports camp that day had ended.
In the evening, we were introduced to another amazing view. The way to get there was to climb up about 200 feet. The view from the top, though, was well worth the hike.
