So grateful for this. Recently told that I would need a bilateral nephrectomy over the phone after an ultrasound was taken, and very little information as to why and what to expect. This has been incredibly informative and even reassuring. Thank you so much.💐

Fantastic I formation. I have just seen the Dr who is doing bilateral nephrectomy for me due to pain and stomach complications due to the size of my kidneys. But this is really informative.. really can't wait.

Hole moley. You can’t wait? I envy your optimism friend. I know I could use a bilateral nephrectomy because of the size from PKD, but I’m worried to death. Not about the complications that medical professionals care about but worry about pain control in the horrific first days. Especially post the so called opioid/ opiate “ crisis.” I know the teaching and philosophy now is to switch to over the counter meds as soon as possible. I suppose I will have to get some assurance from a surgeon that I can trust that they will be aggressive to the max. Stay well all. Cheers

I hope you get to read this comment anytime soon. what concerning me is , my husband will undergo kidney transplantatiom, and the plan is to see at the time they do the open surgery to see if they need to remove his kidney at the time of the operation. my husband has PKD and currently hemoglobin at 7.7, the schedule for transplant is at 19 th of September 2024, what so concerning is the fact that you said in here to avoid blood transfusion during operation, and you stated that it is 3x risk of immidiate transplant. should I ask his nephro about this ?
