I was about to toss my 1995 Stihl FS 85 into the scrap heap. It stopped running smoothly, smoked excessively, and was difficult to start. Then I watched your video on string trimmers. I pulled the spark arrester screen out of the muffler and cleaned it per your video. 10 minutes later I have a smooth running machine. Thank you for saving me hundreds of $!

Thank you so much! I needed new fuel on my Husqvarna trimmer, (mine was all brittle and crumbly). First I went to an online sight and found there are MANY different sizes. So I went to RUclips to get that information, found many channels that told you how to do it but no fuel line specifications, that was until I saw this post, I wish I had found yours first. I should have came here first since I'm a long time subscriber. Thanks!

Excellent video! I just worked on my Husqvarna 128LD and learned most of what is covered here by trial and (luckily not too much) error. I found gunk had built up in the return line which allowed the engine to start, but die with any application of throttle. I ran a soft copper wire through the ports on the carb and checked the diaphragm, which was OK. Reassembled and started up fine. Other than spark plugs, that was the first maintenance on that engine in eight years.
Also, thanks for showing the technique for threading the lines!

It costs a little more to have a pre-spooled line, but when you're in the middle of a trimming job ruclips.net/user/postUgkx429xwEjNPnwzQohFrURRyKF51YfOD_Du , it is so nice to just pop out the old one and pop in a new one. Love Black & Decker tools. Especially the 20-volt battery operated ones. And, as usual, it came on time. Thanks Amazon!

Had the exhaust clogged with carbon deposits 35 years ago on a lawn boy 2 stroke engine. What a great feeling when I was able to fix it myself very similar to the way you did (light hammering on a screw driver for the real tough deposits). This was the first engine fix I ever did. This lesson taught me to mix the gas and oil by precise measuring instead of eyeballing it :).

Great content and start to a strong growing channel. Most people today can barely put gas in their tools correctly (and buy battery powered instead), but seeing a knowledgeable, experienced woman talking about small engines is like learning calculus from a unicorn! You’re everything that America needs more of. This channel is exactly opposite of The View at EVERY level, and is what people should be watching instead!!! Keep up the great work and I just subbed.

Chickanic. Brava! You made it look simple enough that even a dude could do it. Everything played out exactly like the video -- Including the fuel filter falling out when I drained the tank! The carb filter screen had trash in it and after blowing it out plus a shot of carb cleaner it was back in business. Started on the 2nd or 3rd pull and in no time it was idling with no choke and had snappy throttle response. Thanks! Well done.

I bought a 128LD new in 2009. The only thing which has ever failed on it was the starter recoil. The spring assist system broke. I drove some screws through the two pieces of the pulley to lock them together, eliminating the spring assist and it's still working well years later.

It was fun watching you work on this puppy. I love how quiet the new Husqvarna engines run, even for 2-cycle. I own a Stihl FS250R which is a monster of a brushcutter, and no longer made, another example of EPA overreach. And while it is an amazing machine, its a little much for an around the house trimmer, far too much weight, noisy, and of course emissions. If somebody lets their yard get 2-feet tall though, you'll need it to tame the yard lol. I also own a Honda 4-cycle 35cc trimmer, which is also commercial, about 2-pounds lighter then the Stihl FS250R, but its far quieter, better emissions. I still need to use a harness with it, but they got a home owner grade that is 25cc which you probably won't need it.

Thank you for this. I can't say I finished the video because as soon as you said "this guy's putting water in his weed eater..." I checked mine and realized that was the problem (no oil). Mine was clear when I checked. Then I had remembered my trimmer had a slight burning smell the last time and it died. I thought the worst until I watched your video. I realized clear fuel = no oil. I rushed to check the silver TruFuel and it's not premixed. Rushed to the store and bought the correct fuel. Let it run for 5 min and tested again to restart and it works again. Saved me a ton of money. Thank you!

a trick we found on fuel lines was to use the wire from the manilla parts tags, feed the wire through the tank from the hose hole to the fill opening. attatch the filter to one end. cut the hose other end at a 45 degree angle then across from the bottom pierce the hose with the wire and tie it and pull the hose through from in the tank. very little waste. on hard to reach like some chainsaws its a lifesaver. the view at the end was fantastic. i've heard of air guitar but playin a trimmer...........

I had this line trimmer. When it worked, it was awesome. But mostly it didn't work for one reason or another... So I traded it in and bought a Honda and never looked back!!!

Excellent work. This will be very helpful to people.
I guess the only thing I do different is a good bit of cleaning when everything is apart.

    Great video!
I have a puzzling prob with my Husqvarna 120LD trimmer. From time to time while running it will unexpectedly die. Then restarts and runs again.
How long it runs varies a lot. Maybe 5min and maybe 30min. I use only fresh non-ethenol fuel and trimmer gets annual maintenance. Any thoughts ?

It’s a purge bulb no longer a primer bulb but fantastic video you are the gal

I know that too, but I still call it the primer bulb too. Believe I am too lazy to learn new words - and it is still a primer bulb on the B&S engines.

I like the way you analyzed this unit. I have the same one and its giving me the same problem. The ZAMA carb kit you showed is for a Homelite. Will it work for a Husqvarna?

New subscriber. Love your video. I have a carb on a yard machine 42 in cut. I believe without looking it is a 420 engine. I need to clean out the carb. Thanks for all the videos. Very helpful.
Do you have a video on the yard machine carb I'm talking about. You make it look so easy.

I always put a small zip tie around the fuel filter because they have an issue where sometimes it will come out of the hose end because they typically only have one barb to hold the hose :)

How would you fix a Husqvarna trimmer that chokes when squeezing full throttle ?

    • @Chickanic
      @Chickanic  3 года назад

Thanks for watching! You need to go through all these steps. One of them is your problem. Either gas is bad, screen is clogged or diaphragms are wore out.

Excellent video! Someone gave me a Husky 330Lk and it was bogging. I think I messed up the carb adjustment screws somehow and have ordered a new carb. I thought that all Husky used the 21 point spline tool, but maybe not? Not sure how I messed the one up. Anyways, just wanted to see what’s involved.

Wow, this took like 5 minutes. They charged me some $85 to fix my blower, and took them a whole week.
Now I need to fix my trimmer. There's gunk in the fuel tank and the filter came out (found the trimmer in the trash but looks pretty good besides those issues). Where can I get the fuel lines? Need to replace those too.
I suppose I'll have to subscribe to you now.

Really good stuff. If you have small engines around these steps are required maintenance in time. Either that or into the dumpster!

Trimming the fuel line so it goes in the hole better was genius🤔. I would have tore that line to pieces trying to get it in that little hole.

I bought the same weed eater and used it for like 5-10 runs and it won't start now... also bought a Husqvarna push mower and used it 5-10 times and it won't start. I used to cut grass with my grandfather and used his 30 year old LawnBoy... I sure miss old school quality
