I was about to toss my 1995 Stihl FS 85 into the scrap heap. It stopped running smoothly, smoked excessively, and was difficult to start. Then I watched your video on string trimmers. I pulled the spark arrester screen out of the muffler and cleaned it per your video. 10 minutes later I have a smooth running machine. Thank you for saving me hundreds of $! Chic
Thank you for this video. I found this video after my Husqvarna 128LD refused to start. Ended up replacing it but With you concise video, I plan to “tinker” with rebuilding it. For me, having the correct tools makes the job a whole lot easier. I fully endorse your videos & channel/site. A thousand “thanks!”
Thank you so much! I needed new fuel on my Husqvarna trimmer, (mine was all brittle and crumbly). First I went to an online sight and found there are MANY different sizes. So I went to RUclips to get that information, found many channels that told you how to do it but no fuel line specifications, that was until I saw this post, I wish I had found yours first. I should have came here first since I'm a long time subscriber. Thanks!
Excellent video! I just worked on my Husqvarna 128LD and learned most of what is covered here by trial and (luckily not too much) error. I found gunk had built up in the return line which allowed the engine to start, but die with any application of throttle. I ran a soft copper wire through the ports on the carb and checked the diaphragm, which was OK. Reassembled and started up fine. Other than spark plugs, that was the first maintenance on that engine in eight years. Also, thanks for showing the technique for threading the lines!
It costs a little more to have a pre-spooled line, but when you're in the middle of a trimming job ruclips.net/user/postUgkx429xwEjNPnwzQohFrURRyKF51YfOD_Du , it is so nice to just pop out the old one and pop in a new one. Love Black & Decker tools. Especially the 20-volt battery operated ones. And, as usual, it came on time. Thanks Amazon!
Had the exhaust clogged with carbon deposits 35 years ago on a lawn boy 2 stroke engine. What a great feeling when I was able to fix it myself very similar to the way you did (light hammering on a screw driver for the real tough deposits). This was the first engine fix I ever did. This lesson taught me to mix the gas and oil by precise measuring instead of eyeballing it :).
Thanks for a great video! I replaced the rotten fuel lines and still it wouldn’t run, then I watched your video and realized I had reversed the lines…duh! Your video saved the day and got my Husqvarna running again. Looking forward to more videos.
Thanks so much for this video. I had changed gas lines and filter ( thanks ethanol ) but still would not run without choke. Once I checked the screen I found a 75% blockage. Cleaned and an now works beautifully!
I watched your video twice before ordering parts. As I disassembled it I was dumbfounded as it was EXACTLY like the one in your video. Filter fell out, one insert connector fell out. lol rotted fuel line. However I did order the CHEAPEST replacement I could find(11.98). Upon delivery I realized I needed the adjustment tool🤯. So 18.00 all together. It started right up and a few minutes of adjusting I was Happy Happy. Your videos are great. Next time I will follow your expertise implicitly 😊
Great content and start to a strong growing channel. Most people today can barely put gas in their tools correctly (and buy battery powered instead), but seeing a knowledgeable, experienced woman talking about small engines is like learning calculus from a unicorn! You’re everything that America needs more of. This channel is exactly opposite of The View at EVERY level, and is what people should be watching instead!!! Keep up the great work and I just subbed.
Totally agree, Jeep Guy. The View gave my mama a tumor!…and she only watched it the one time, like 11 years prior to being diagnosed! Just shows to go ya how powerful evil them libral womens are. Mama’d be here today if she’d only learnt how to fix pow’r equipment instead. 🥺
Thank you so much! I was sitting here throwing my shoulder out trying to pull start this 128 to no avail. Figured I better consult someone who knows what they are doing and presto, found this video. I dumped out the fuel tank and the lines had literally dissolved into mush. Amazing what a little knowledge can do. I'm confident I can get this going now. Liked and Subbed!
A huge thanks I have one of these I gave my grand father and he called me yesterday saying it wouldn't start. I know where to start and hopefully can fix it myself.
I have used pocket knives, utility knives, diagonal cutter's and razor blades to split fuel lines. But never scissors. Lol. That is AWESOME ! gonna get me a pair. Thanks Chickanic. Love your videos. 👍👍
I watched your tutorials, and I really liked them and appreciated the way you showed how to fix the trimmers and blowers I have....You were concise and if I couldn't have fixed my equipment, I would have been , oh well, THANKS for the lessons, I now have a trimmer(128LD), and a blower(125B) that works like a champ, and parts ordered for another trimmer(125L) that I've had for about 18 to 20 yrs. Thanks again..

I just found you! So thankful I found a female that does this. I have nothing against the men. I’m a single 63yo. Female. I’m so tired of trying to get weed eaters that will work right. I was given a Husqvarna 128LD. My sister-law passed from Covid in the past Dec. and had all these yard things. I’m grateful but I know nothing about this type of tool. I want to get the things you recommend in your video. But where? I’m on a limited income. I’m trying to be frugal. Thank you for sharing this
Thank You 🙏 for sharing this informative video, I have 128LD also. That would not start in southern Alabama mid morning today, went to town and had to hunt up a spark plug and also picked up a fuel filter also. By the time I got back the heat index was over 100, too hot to be outside. Will work on it tomorrow morning.
Thanks for letting me know about this video. This will help me get my trimmer back in great running shape. Your videos are simple, straight to the point and very interesting.
This is great! I have a 128L that has no fuel flow and a brand-new 128LX that has no spark. I now know how to fix the 128L, but not sure about the 128LX. I plan on calling the manufacturer on Tuesday about warranty since the LX is less than 2 months old and less than 2 hours of run time.
I have a 128ld I purchased mid summer last year and I used it 2 or 3 times and it began to bog down on run and would only run an half choke. I've always use ethanol free gas so the carb has to be dirty. I've just never fixed it yet. Brand new and a headache but we'll get her going. Great video
Chickanic. Brava! You made it look simple enough that even a dude could do it. Everything played out exactly like the video -- Including the fuel filter falling out when I drained the tank! The carb filter screen had trash in it and after blowing it out plus a shot of carb cleaner it was back in business. Started on the 2nd or 3rd pull and in no time it was idling with no choke and had snappy throttle response. Thanks! Well done.
This is the most informative video on the internet on how to fix the Husqvarna 128LD weed wacker, I know because I've watched them all, three months ago, before you posted this video. I had to buy another weed wacker to get my fire abatement done. Now with this video I'll give fixing the Husky another try. Thanks
I've been all over the Internet, and this is the best video I've found on carb replacement yet! Do you have one on adjusting the mix, and the idle screw?
Yeah- Steve's Small Engine Saloon has an excellent video on fine tuning a 2-cycle engine. And adjusting all THREE screws. It's not a Husqvarva (it's a Stihl, I think), but the same principles apply (as he says)
I'm pretty good with small engines but aint really messed with weed eaters to much and I ai t never changed grommets so I ended up here after my search just watching little repair vids but just wanted to say you explain very well and are super skilled thx for the info
Thanks for this video! Compression 120 - got spark, fuel filter laying in the bottom of the tank. New kit ordered. Hope to get ‘er runnin’ this weekend! Thanks for all your videos!
Old video I know, but I recently bought a Husqvarna 122 lk weedeater from tractor supply , it was new someone brought it back and said it didn't run right , took a chance on it , it would crank and idle but not Rev much , I tinkered with it adjusted the carb special tool splined screwdriver to adjust jets , it ran good and runs good but acts up and don't wanna crank then it acts like it's starving for fuel then runs great , think I'm going to beat on the exhaust and clean the carb out now ! Great video !
I picked up a old 2011 128C Husqvarna and lucked out on replacing fuel line and threw carb into chem dip. Smelled like 5 year old stale gas. Runs great
I bought a 128LD new in 2009. The only thing which has ever failed on it was the starter recoil. The spring assist system broke. I drove some screws through the two pieces of the pulley to lock them together, eliminating the spring assist and it's still working well years later.
It was fun watching you work on this puppy. I love how quiet the new Husqvarna engines run, even for 2-cycle. I own a Stihl FS250R which is a monster of a brushcutter, and no longer made, another example of EPA overreach. And while it is an amazing machine, its a little much for an around the house trimmer, far too much weight, noisy, and of course emissions. If somebody lets their yard get 2-feet tall though, you'll need it to tame the yard lol. I also own a Honda 4-cycle 35cc trimmer, which is also commercial, about 2-pounds lighter then the Stihl FS250R, but its far quieter, better emissions. I still need to use a harness with it, but they got a home owner grade that is 25cc which you probably won't need it.
I came across this video after I replaced the carb. I used the Hipa or whatever it is on Amazon. It idles just fine, starts like a charm, but it will not rev up to actually work. I ordered the OEM after seeing your link and opinion. Thanks!
Great video and right on point. Have a 128L with the filter bouncing around in the fuel tank. Several inches of Echo 5mm fuel line later and it's running like a champ. Thanks for the awesome video.
My Husqvarna 3 years old. Probably dingle berry put together in the factory. Filter fell off as well. Such a garbage construction. But the biggest dingle berry was the engineer who designed this junk. Thank You for the video!!!❤
Tl;dr: I was using TruFuel thinking it was premixed like the Husqvarna brand. Swapped with the correct mixture and it was good again. Thank you for this. I can't say I finished the video because as soon as you said "this guy's putting water in his weed eater..." I checked mine and realized that was the problem (no oil). Mine was clear when I checked. Then I had remembered my trimmer had a slight burning smell the last time and it died. I thought the worst until I watched your video. I realized clear fuel = no oil. I rushed to check the silver TruFuel and it's not premixed. Rushed to the store and bought the correct fuel. Let it run for 5 min and tested again to restart and it works again. Saved me a ton of money. Thank you!
?? "Huskqvarna brand of fuel"? Never heard of it, but I can imagine the price! Just get a five Litre gas can and fill it with the premium no-ethanol gas, and then add a 100 ml of 2-cycle oil mix.
I did the OEM carb and still had same issue, then i changed from the HIPA plug to a Champion, runs perfect now! The amazon kit plug was non-resistor, the champion is resistor, seems to make the difference.
Another great video Chickanic, I must say though you are much easier to look at than Taryl, Mustie, DoubleWide, Mower Medic and Steve. Thanks and keep'm coming!! :)
I have a question…what is the purpose of the plastic fitting that’s in the fuel supply line in the gas tank of the 128ld? If eliminated will it cause problems?
I like the way you do your videos! You show or talk about all the stuff the other channel's don't and you know what you are doing! I like your video's and I also watch Donnyboy and Mustie as well and I already know how to do all this ! It seems to me that someone finally is able to get one working and then they think they are experts and they are of no help to the rookies but the rookies dont know that they dont know what they are doing and talk about the thing a ma bob or the flopper part because they really dont know what they are! We will give you a 9.9 !
Great video I wish I saw it prior to doing the replacement the fuel lines were hard to feed into the tank your tip would have saved me a lot of time installing them
It's me, "Fixes Everything Machanical" again. I was so appreciative for this video. I have that exact trimmer & it would run only on choke.. thanks to ur video I just went ahead and replaced the entire carb.. You guess it, I came home & my husband tried to trim the ditch.. Needless to say, so thankful to have found this video... Lol 😂😂 Ya'll from Arkansas, right? Nice we're from La.. Love the Ozarks.. Dream location.... Much love to u and urs. Stay safe and God speed.. tks again...
a trick we found on fuel lines was to use the wire from the manilla parts tags, feed the wire through the tank from the hose hole to the fill opening. attatch the filter to one end. cut the hose other end at a 45 degree angle then across from the bottom pierce the hose with the wire and tie it and pull the hose through from in the tank. very little waste. on hard to reach like some chainsaws its a lifesaver. the view at the end was fantastic. i've heard of air guitar but playin a trimmer...........
Thanks, Love your Channel. I bought a brand new Husquvarna 128LD. It can find for a few months then starting having problems. I went to check the Air Filter, and there was no Air Filter installed. Checked the Fuel Filter and surprise, no Fuel Filter installed. I am not sure if it came from.the Factory In that condition of if it was assembled at Lowes, but either way I was very disappointed that the filters were not installed. Thanks again
I had this line trimmer. When it worked, it was awesome. But mostly it didn't work for one reason or another... So I traded it in and bought a Honda and never looked back!!!
Great video! I have a puzzling prob with my Husqvarna 120LD trimmer. From time to time while running it will unexpectedly die. Then restarts and runs again. How long it runs varies a lot. Maybe 5min and maybe 30min. I use only fresh non-ethenol fuel and trimmer gets annual maintenance. Any thoughts ?
I like the way you analyzed this unit. I have the same one and its giving me the same problem. The ZAMA carb kit you showed is for a Homelite. Will it work for a Husqvarna?
New subscriber. Love your video. I have a carb on a yard machine 42 in cut. I believe without looking it is a 420 engine. I need to clean out the carb. Thanks for all the videos. Very helpful. Do you have a video on the yard machine carb I'm talking about. You make it look so easy.
I always put a small zip tie around the fuel filter because they have an issue where sometimes it will come out of the hose end because they typically only have one barb to hold the hose :)
Thanks for watching! You need to go through all these steps. One of them is your problem. Either gas is bad, screen is clogged or diaphragms are wore out.
Excellent video! Someone gave me a Husky 330Lk and it was bogging. I think I messed up the carb adjustment screws somehow and have ordered a new carb. I thought that all Husky used the 21 point spline tool, but maybe not? Not sure how I messed the one up. Anyways, just wanted to see what’s involved.
Wow, this took like 5 minutes. They charged me some $85 to fix my blower, and took them a whole week. Now I need to fix my trimmer. There's gunk in the fuel tank and the filter came out (found the trimmer in the trash but looks pretty good besides those issues). Where can I get the fuel lines? Need to replace those too. I suppose I'll have to subscribe to you now.
I bought the same weed eater and used it for like 5-10 runs and it won't start now... also bought a Husqvarna push mower and used it 5-10 times and it won't start. I used to cut grass with my grandfather and used his 30 year old LawnBoy... I sure miss old school quality

Aw thanks!
Your videos are easy to follow, you make the jobs look easy, thank you, keep up the good work 👍
It was -10 this morning so I replaced the carb on my 128
Thanks for the how to
I have a question…what is the purpose of the plastic fitting that’s in the fuel supply line in the gas tank of the 128ld? If eliminated will it cause problems?
You always explain things in such detail. You're really good at it. Thanks so much.😊👍👍👍
first time viewer. A great video, clear and to the point. Much appreciated !!!
WOW! i followed this video to the letter and now i have a PERFECTLY running 128LD!!! you legitimately saved me over $350!!!!
SuBScRiBEd!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your help. Gonna use your video to help me do the same thing to my 128LD.
I learn so much more with each video. Thanks and keep them coming !!
Will do! Thanks for watching!!
Great video Chickanic , I love to watch the videos, when I can tell they are coming from a deep abiding knowlege base. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
Great video
I wish I saw it prior to doing the replacement the fuel lines were hard to feed into the tank your tip would have saved me a lot of time installing them
Not many of us small engine mechanic like to share that tip.
Awesome! Glad I could help! YES! I love Arkansas. You're right, it's a dream location, but shhh! Don't let the others know. LOL!
Hey I’m from Arkansas ozarks
@@sogal4christ I'm jealous.. Absolutely a Dream location.. Hope to there pretty soon myself.. God willing...!!!
Great video! the more technical details the better. Really enjoying them. 👍
Thank you SO much!
a trick we found on fuel lines was to use the wire from the manilla parts tags, feed the wire through the tank from the hose hole to the fill opening. attatch the filter to one end. cut the hose other end at a 45 degree angle then across from the bottom pierce the hose with the wire and tie it and pull the hose through from in the tank. very little waste. on hard to reach like some chainsaws its a lifesaver. the view at the end was fantastic. i've heard of air guitar but playin a trimmer...........
Fantastic! Exactly what I needed, thank you so much. The OEM is sold out what do you recommend as a replacement? HiPA? Thanks again
Excellent work. This will be very helpful to people.
I guess the only thing I do different is a good bit of cleaning when everything is apart.
I agree but it is for my own personal use, not for getting it fixed and back in the customers hands.
Excellent. You're good at showing how.
That's some A1 explaining right there thank you !!!
Excellent video and advice! Had same problems and now runs fine. Thanks!
Thanks chicanick just done my 129rj strimmer works perfectly 😊
Excellent how-to video. Got my 128ld running like new.
It’s a purge bulb no longer a primer bulb but fantastic video you are the gal
I know that too, but I still call it the primer bulb too. Believe I am too lazy to learn new words - and it is still a primer bulb on the B&S engines.
Excellent! Thanks for this. Think I need to look at the magneto on mine as there is not spark either!
Your videos are great....good camera work and great commentary. Keep up the good work. I'm a fan!!!
Congrats on reaching 6K subscribers!
Thanks Harry!
Belly button lint in carb on Small screen just came on your video keep up the good good luck
Cutting off the trimmed portion of the return line is not necessary. Keep up the great work
Appreciate you doing these videos. Very informative and helpful.
I like the way you analyzed this unit. I have the same one and its giving me the same problem. The ZAMA carb kit you showed is for a Homelite. Will it work for a Husqvarna?
Best video on this I found, great and thorough explaining. A+++
Good tip on the scratches on the piston!
Stevie, Dony and now You. New subscriber says thank you!
Thanks for the great video.
How would you fix a Husqvarna trimmer that chokes when squeezing full throttle ?
Really good stuff. If you have small engines around these steps are required maintenance in time. Either that or into the dumpster!
Thanks for the great video. Do you still have plans to make that video to put a kit in a carburetor?
Trimming the fuel line so it goes in the hole better was genius🤔. I would have tore that line to pieces trying to get it in that little hole.
Thanks! Glad I could help!
This was a huge help… great video, and detailed explanation 👍
Good class I think even a klutz like me could change that out, you explained well.
have you done any work on the husky 122c? they claim easy start should rename never start
I bought the same weed eater and used it for like 5-10 runs and it won't start now... also bought a Husqvarna push mower and used it 5-10 times and it won't start. I used to cut grass with my grandfather and used his 30 year old LawnBoy... I sure miss old school quality
