- I noticed that there was quite a range of prices when buying eggs so today, I thought it'd be interesting to see the difference between some of the cheapest, and some of the most expensive ones out there. I got the cheap ones from Iceland, £1.50 for 10, and compared them to Mabel Pearman's Burford Browns, £4.10 for 10, so let's see what the result was...

That was really interesting, I wonder if the posh chickens are nearly 3 times as happy and how would you measure the happiness 🤔
I would've thought so mate :)
Nice colouful feathers which shine, bright eyes and a nice red wattle and comb. Plus nosy and inquisitive. All signs of a happy chicken 😁
Absolutely, I guess you are also paying for the good welfare of the animal, which is part of the experience for me really.
If poaching eggs 🍳 you notice a real difference in the quality I found if use more expensive fresher eggs
Never knew that mate, thanks for letting us know :)
Yes quality eggs the white will stay around the yoke, whereas a cheaper eggs white will fall away.
Thanks
I feel like a couple of fried eggs for tea now. I just hope you don't start doing caviar reviews next, I'll be penniless by Friday.
Hahaa! Is there even a budget caviar!
@@Papparoni Just essentials must do one?
@@pumbar It wouldn't surprise me! :D
No mush factor before cooking Paps? That would have been fun )
I'll leave that to HowToBasic mate! :D
Great honest video papps and you could definitely see the difference in the eggs I personally don't buy battery farmed eggs only free range either Gallagher's from home bargains £1:39 or Chestnut farm from Tesco £2:00 both half a dozen and great yokes but the Tesco one is orange coloured like the Morrison's one in your video 👍👍🥚🥚🍳🍳
Good to know Robert thank you. I also have free range eggs normally :)
Wow! The posh yolk looked like actual blood!
Decent colour eh Popcorn, it didn't taste of blood though ;)
The results surprised me as well, although I normally go for the Free Range, Mark's or Asda I may just splurge out on Burfords just to try
Fill your boots mate, Wayne B says if you poach them, the difference is more obvious :)
What a brilliant idea Pappa. I have been tempted to try those Clarence Court eggs for ages. Seem to be selling well even with the cost of living crisis. I would probably buy them occasionally like you say. M&S are usually my eggs of choice and not badly priced. I feel like making a nice Shakshuka now 😋Enjoy the rest of your eggs 🥚🍳Eggcellent review Pappa ⭐👍
Thank you Emily. I had to look shaksuka up, and I'm glad I did, time to try... :D
@@Papparoni Goes nice with some crusty baguette 🥖😋
@@emilychambers5031 Oh God yeah Emily!
Mate I remember growing up getting eggs in butchers you use to get double yoke eggs regularly I have not seen one in years, great video as usual
Crikey me, yes Gerard, the odd double yolk, superb memory!
@@Papparoni lol it's odd
Great video! I always buy free range but have only had those posh ones a couple of times when they've been on offer. We go through a couple of dozen most weeks, and would need to remortgage if we swapped to the expensive ones!
Hahaa! Good to know you chaps eat so well, eggs are glorious :D
Contact the Burford Brown wholesaler, and if you got a trade card they would do you a discount..
Nice eggsperiment there ! I do like the posh eggs, wicked scrambled they are. Eggcellent video as always Sir. Mark.
Posh eggs are nice I agree mate, worth shelling out for ;)
Can't beat a comparison video. Keep up the good work!
How very supportive, thank you Dan :)
Great comparison, for me I always try to pay a bit more for eggs, and always free range. I find orange yolks most appealing , Yum 😋
Absolutely Lynne, free range are my go to egg :)
I always buy free range. Had chickens when I lived at my folks. Used to get lots of double yolks and the yolk was always deep coloured. They got fed normal feed plus all kitchen scraps. I liked digging worms for them in their pen.
Sounds like a marvellous upbringing squeaky. I used to dig worms up too!
Thanks x ❤
Miss Dream, you do spoil me, thank you so much :)
What on oeuf! Well that was entertaining and interesting. The colour of the yoke in the posh one was quite something.
Superb pun Spye, I know you know I'd like it.
@@Papparoni 👍🏻🤣
I personally don't think Burford Browns are best used as a fried egg. They are best soft boiled. I don't have eggs often so usually go for Clarence Court or M&Ss fancy eggs
Best way Wine, if something is worth having, it's worth waiting for, and thank you for advising us regarding soft boiling the quality eggs.
@@Papparoni yeah figure may aswell be a treat if you don't have it often, Burford Browns have a more creamy yolk so it lends itself to being a soft boiled and had as is or turned into an egg salad mixed some mayo n stuff. The Clarence Court Large Old Cotswold Legbar eggs(blue box) are a really good allrounder
@@wildwine6400 Good to know thank you, I'll try the blue ones soon :)
I've got a dozen hens, my son wanted some. While they taste better than the shop eggs they don't look any different. They certainly don't have a yolk like the Clarence court eggs and they're all free range and fed on good food etc.
I really miss home laid eggs jay, I used to buy them off an old piano student and nothing has ever come close!
Apparently it’s mainly down to what they feed them. I wonder how much the colour impacts the flavour, so he should do a blind taste test next time
Interesting review papps. I'd use the cheap ones for baking and the more expensive ones as a treat. With a full English, I don't think you can beat a duck egg; very rich and plenty of yolk to mop up :)
I still can't do duck eggs Monas, it's the size, and I can't seem to get over it!!
Cracking review as usual
Many thanks Robert :)
Clucking hell those Clarence court eggs are eggpensive.
Great comparison review and food for thought when it comes to value for money, especially in these harder times 👍
Many thanks Jeff, I was quite surprised with the result of this comparison!
Good to know thanks Pappy good test thank you.
You're very welcome Wayne!
I tried the burford browns for the first time this evening and they are a really tasty egg. 3 quid for 6 is steep but loveley on toast with salt 😋
Lovely things aren't they James, my egg of choice :)
These eggs look clucking delicious.. no yoking lol.. at least cooked enough to keep away Sam and Ella lol
I knew a girl called Sam once, and her daughter Ella, and I intend to stay away from them for life! :D
@@Papparoni lol 👍
Good Review. Thanks
You're welcome David :)
I'd like to know did he use Portugese or Greek olive oil for cooking? Also they say for the best flavor try frying in lard or butter[not synthetic margarine!]
I believe it was Italian olive oil I used Nigel, I do fry in lard or butter as well and never use margarine, for anything :)
Great content this.
Thank you Smarky!
£4.10 for 10 eggs, you must be yoking!
All the money I know Dean, I just had to see how good they really are!
Wow interesting. I never had a posh egg before. The colour was amazing. I would like to see traffic light eggs lined up on the plate. That’s a big jump in price for them. I would like to try a posh egg one day.
Do it Jerri, you only live once :D
This was an eggscellent comparison video Papparoni and a massive price difference too!
Cheers mate, I enjoyed this one, had a cracking time!
I love how you make Icelands or Tesco value or cheap eggs sound so seductive !!! Honestly iam in ore of you 🤣🤣xx
They all need loving Michael! :D
Those eggs look cracking pap! (Pun intended) ☺🤙🏼
Great pun Adam, hard to 'beat'!
Eggcellent review Papp.
I eggspected the quality egg to be of superior taste 🥚
It's no yoke when it comes to a quality egg.
I'd rather spend the eggstra coin on good eggs with a hard and healthy shell, than have a cheap thin shelled egg break in my hand.
Did you notice the sounds of the eggs as you cracked them. The eggspensive egg had a deeper cracking sound!
Also the dearer egg spooky face with the dark orange mouth @ 2:30.
I love my eggs fried in ghee ssu, poached in the microwave, scrambled like 2 US fighter jets and pressure cooked medium soft, 2:30 minutes.
What came first. The chicken or the egg?
Who gives a Rats Ass. As long as there's always plenty of them to go with the Bacon... 🤤👍😀
Top review today Papp.
Cheers 😁
That is a top spot John, superb ghost, almost Slimer - why didn't I see that!!
Whenever I'm asked, 'what came first, the chicken or the egg', I reply 'the rooster'!
@@Papparoni Yes. When it comes to fertilizing the eggs, the Rooster must come first 😉......

Thanks D, your creations all deserve the Clarence eggs :)
Clarence court are the cream of the crop!!!
I agree, I have just bought two six packs :)
£4.10? I just paid £5.50
Scandalous, never seems to end..
YER interesting to find out , 🙂
I enjoyed this experiment!
Hello Papparoni my darling x I like the blue eggs. Yolks are deepest ochre.
Eggs 🥚 are a beautiful treat, however if I'm baking a cake or scones, I'll use any eggs 🥚 available at the time, lovely video lots of love x
I haven't tried the ochre eggs Miss Dream, they sound hypnotizing, and I bet your cakes are first class :)

Know anywhere in the UK / London where we could buy 'pasture raised'?
No idea I'm afraid, try searching it up on the net..
Just a tip Pap ! never use metal on anything non-stick pans etc !
Me too normally mate but it's brand new so I thought I'd get away with it this once. May invest in some Ninja pans, you can be brutal with them!
@@Papparoni I know Ninja make good stuff, but i would only use silicone, wood and plastic utensils in them 😊
@@mikethedigitaldoctorjarvis Should last you a lifetime mate :)
Found some Chef Kuo chilli noodles at B&M. They're in those big bowl style pots like Reeva noodles. Black and red packaging and says non fried low fat on it if you're interested in trying to find them. Still doing the thumbs up too.
Also when did you start caressing your food with a fork?😂
Thanks for the heads up Jonathan, and I think it was a couple of months ago when the fork started getting more intimate with the food! :D
What an egg-ceptional review 😋
Thank you Cupid, I might shell out for some more!
What your paying for is the extra nutrients. These eggs are wayyyy more nutrient dense because of the lives the chickens lived, for health it’s worth it, flavour maybe not so much
I agree Max. I do eat plenty of good food and you really can tell the difference in how you feel
Clarence court do loads of other great eggs will you be trying them?
I tried their blue ones when I went away for the weekend and they were wonderful :)
A really interesting comparison, Papps! I usually buy Clarence Court eggs for my bakes, as the golden yolks are so rich and creamy, which lends itself to a better bake! The brownies I baked for you used Clarence Court eggs - and they were still cheaper than M&S brownies!! 😹 My '12 Days of Christmas Cookies' series required *a lot* of eggs and Clarence Court would've broken the bank, so I decided to save some cash and bought a huge tray of Costco eggs. They were really good! By the way, if you want really fancy eggs, check out Cacklebean eggs!! 😻😻
I remember you saying you used CC eggs Dani :) Just checked out Cacklebean and I must get some, they sound brillliant!
Good 👍
Thank you
You need to try their duck eggs, they're the real treat, 'specially for boiling, for me at least - they're simply gorgeous.
I'll give them a try one day thank you Passinthyme, love your pic by the way, I admire the moon as often as possible :)
The only difference between a free range egg and a cage hen egg is the price there both fed exactly the same food. Those posh eggs the hens are given different food to make the egg that colour that's all if you get eggs with very fragile shells it's because they have been given cheap feed. I used to know someone who worked in the office doing all the costings for one of the major egg suppliers he had worked there since leaving school. It was a few years ago now but he also said it costs them 30p a bird to get rid of the old hens when they have finished there egg laying careers and the major food manufacturer's in this country didn't want them it was more cost effective for them to get chicken from South America
Excellent insight Ladd. I am led to believe that the free range hen has a few square feet to doss around in also? As for the logistics of animal produce, indeed all produce, back to local produce for local people I say :)
@@Papparoni I believe they have access to going outside but that's about it they don't go socialising and they still don't have much space there is loads of info about it on google it's something like 1.2 sq meters per chicken to been deemed free range.
@@mansfieldlad123 How generous of the poultry welfare people!
Would you tell the difference in egg fried rice for an example 🤔 I'm guessing you wouldn't so I don't think I'd be paying the extra like you said yourself Paps as there are definitely cheaper free range eggs out there to purchase 👍
I doubt it regarding the egg fried rice mate, and I will also stick to regular free range :)
You should have made and Egg MADRAS with EIGHT eggs.
so much oil papa!!😀
I do like to splash the olive Conrad :D
Eggcellent
Many thanks Jay, can't 'beat' a good egg!
Eggciting Papp you must be yolking
Speaking of yolking, I only eat one egg at a time when in France as one egg is une oeuf :)
caged hens... really??
I know, I was only trying to compare the high with the low, personally I buy free range :)
Battery eggs. Yuck.
I know somebody else who feels the same mate!
I always buy Clarence court-nutritious food- healthy body
Quite right Diana
You burnt them!
The yolks were runny!
