Watched a previous video which tells you to 'pry' the metal cover off. This is so much better and so simple, I did this in seconds. I have a 2015 Touareg and this has helped so much, thank you for posting.
This set of instructions is the best of all of them out there. 2014 Touareg TDI Lux and still use this for reference. Substitute for the jewelers screwdriver.... Take a large paper clip, bend it 90 degrees and then take a hammer and flatten the tip into the width of the keyfob opening. Insert, pull straight back until the chrome piece pops off. Do so over a soft surface like carpet or a rug for when the chrome piece falls off.
Mine worked just like the video....and saved me a dealer visit for something simple. To bad the battery doesn't recharge when it's in the socket like some other makes. But, it's a 30 second job to change, so thanks for the demo.

Have had my T-Reg for about 1.5 years, put 40k miles on it (new) & have had to change the batteries at least 4 or 5 times now... Really annoying but this video showed just how easy it is now that I can't expect the local stealership to continue to replace since she's finally gone over her factory warranty coverage.
I love this vehicle, but EVERYTHING is difficult and the owner’s manual is frequently difficult to understand and on one occasion, wrong (removing the front seat headrest). That darned keyfob is either a struggle or absolutely no struggle. We just struggled with ours for many minutes and then it just popped open.

One thing to emphasize that seemed to trip me up is that when removing the emergency key you need to have the button on the face of the key fob pushed in while you use your fingernail on the little release. For some reason I can't keep that part straight in my head -- push both the button and the release and the emergency key comes right out without tools.
I struggled SO MUCH!! Was just about to give up then the chrome piece FINALLY gave!! I loved the illumination of your video and how you showed the little clip how it works so I could understand how to open it.. thank you.. watched several videos and came back to yours.. ❤️
WOW! thanks. My Touareg key fob wouldn't work- the red light was on solid and the car was locked. Followed this video- removed the battery, reinserted and everything worked fine.
It worked...thanks! I did notice that the chrome side piece wasn’t as quick to pop off as yours. Maybe my fob is a bit older and gunked up? Either way, in the end your vid helped me out. Cheers!
Has anyone else found they couldn't open the side cover using the little slot behind the emergency key? But I did find you can open the silver side cover directly, like this: photos.app.goo.gl/om8afrPucHuhsNa96
I have a 2016 and this is a good video. Dealership followed this video but now I can't do it at home to save my life. I can't get the screwdriver to make it click 😫

i got the 2015 one too, but i can't remove the chrome cover!
i pushed in all 4 directions but i just cannot get it out
