Slow TV: A Walk Along Eype Beach

  • Join me for a walk along Eype beach, in Dorset, on a bitterly cold, but beautiful, calm and bright January day.
    Slow TV isn't for everyone - nothing is scripted here - no narration or music - nothing much happens, and certainly not on purpose, but that's OK - there are no sudden loud noises in this video and no midroll ads. Mostly you will just hear the crashing of the waves and the crunch of shingle beneath my feet and occasional other natural sounds. You may also occasionally hear the sounds of Eva barking at rocks, oh, and a helicopter; enjoy this bracing walk with me, by the waves, along the crunchy gravel.
    Eype is near Bridport, Dorset (in England)

    Shrimp, I hope this comment some how reaches you. Your videos mean a lot to me, I continually find myself coming back to them over the years. They're cozy, informative, and it just makes me happy to see someone as genuine as yourself find a big audience. Thanks for all the wisdom too! happy new year.

    Mike I am going through a hard time right now, I wake up with awful PTSD nightmares but I want you to know that it’s your voice that calms me and allows me to go back to sleep. No matter what is on, weird stuff in a can or budget challenges or just food or whatever, I take comfort in hearing you speak about the little things that make life nicer. Thank you so much!

    My grandmother used to live in Eype until about 5 years ago. She called it sleepy Eypee and this video has brought back fond memories of my time spent with her, wether it be fossil hunting on the beach, an exiting christmas when we were struck by a power cut or managing to watch the sailing from the cliffs for free during the 2012 olympics

    What a lovely day for a beach walk, sunshine and blue skies! I don't know that I have ever seen a beach quite this terracota color. This was so calming and brought on deeper breaths
    and slower heartbeats. I will play it again tomorrow on the tv screen as we prepare ourselves for a foot of snow 😅

    I love that the Subtitles are disabled, implying nothing is said. This implies you're looking out for the deaf/hearing impaired people, so that they don't sit there and wait for words when none will come and the auto subtitles don't put random sounds as subtitles .

    I was fascinated by the waterworn stones. A few of the larger ones, the boulders. Wow. Even the waves sound different to me. Pebbley sounding. The place felt like a place to sit down and just look around and relax.

      Totally possible but naturally depends on the original footage. Filming and working with higher resolutions takes more space and time, I guess it's dependent on many factors such as which camera is being used and how fast and spacious the computer used for editing is.
      Mind you, AI is now being used extensively for better "upscaling" of content so it would be very possible to take this content and have it in higher resolution than it was originally created at.

    • @AtomicShrimp
      @AtomicShrimp  7 месяцев назад +9

      I've tried shooting and editing in 4K before, but the file sizes are a problem (and there is some bottleneck on my editing PC that makes it difficult there - it's quite a high spec machine, but editing 4K footage is choppy) - for upload to RUclips, I always set a very high bitrate for these videos; I would have to do the same for 4K or there would be a lot more compression artifacting, but 4K at high bitrate is huge

    Great red beach, and the angle of the Sun. I enjoyed the gorgeous scenery, brooks, translucent rocks, and Eva's excitement!
    Oh, and is this a "beach" or a "shingle", or both? I'm a Yank, I don't know the exact definition of a "shingle". I've never heard it used here, at least not in California where I've never seen a beach made up of pebbles.

    • @AtomicShrimp

    Ok, the name of this place has stumped me on how to pronounce it.
    My best attempt at it on my own before looking it up is maybe "e-pea" or maybe "ey-yup".
    Google says it's "eep".
    Some video I found has them pronouncing it like "eye-p".
    Any suggestion/help here?

    • @AtomicShrimp
      @AtomicShrimp  7 месяцев назад +6

      Some place names in Dorset are a case of 'ask two people, get three answers'. Eep or something midway between that and 'ape' seems to be the consensus.

    Is this another test, was interesting to a degree at times, you picking a pebble up and viewing it for clarity is it an agate, with a supple thud, as you discarded the item, doggo was quite amusing though teeth against rocks, not a sour puss here, perhaps one of those ball with a stick throwing things. Lack of dialog, talking/discussion about things I gave up at 13 minutes sorry.
