Proof that you don't need to play really fast or know loads of chords or use complex time-signatures or fancy shit to sound absolutely stunning. Such a simple, stripped-back performance but still compelling and pretty magical!
Amazing to read all these comments from 3 and 4 years ago! They are so touching and real - thanks to all of you for saying what I feel in my heart when I listened to her....my brother sent this song to me as a kind of birthday present - I'm 71 and I never heard anything this sweet, this beautiful - Alynda Lee is something else and I wish her a long life full of all that a human needs and keep on singing baby, you are a gift!
There must be somewhere in this whole world There must be somewhere in this whole world Cause I keep on trying, I keep on trying I keep on trying, I keep on trying! Bullets are flying from a young man’s hands People are dying, no one understands And I keep on crying, I keep on crying I keep on crying, I keep on crying Baby, please don't go Down in New Orleans Cause you don't know The things that I've seen Them bullets are flying Bullets are flying Bullets are flying Bullets are flying Got the St. Roch Blues Down in my soul I've seen so many Of my good friends go And it won't be long It won't be long It won't be long It won't be long Till I go
Ooh I absolutely love this music. Sigh...They had me at the very first note. I can't get enough of them. I found them like I find a lot of my music, through Rolling Stone magazine. They have a music review section and I can't wait to get to that section every time I get my new issue to check out music I haven't heard before. And this is one band I immediately fell in love with. I also find music from the 'suggestions' on the side bar that comes up; I allow myself to get curious and keep digging find music I haven't heard before. Free your mind..
Every very rare now and then, a group of musicians will sit together in a planned session just wanting to make some music, perhaps for a video or a CD, and something just clicks. This would seem to be one of those very rare now and thens. "Bet you can't do that twice" would be a winner. Thanks for sharing this very special very rare "now and then". Watch the pianist at 5:34 ... He knows.
Beautiful music to be played outdoors on my deck in a late summer night having a glass of wine or a pint. So relaxing, low key and a different blues sound. Thank Aly :)
There is soul and then there is soul... This young lady has done a lot more than just sing a song with this video.... she gives us a glimpse of her soul and it is special.... I must see her live..... Jerry Dupas (ex St. Roch Park)
I fell in love with this song a couple a years ago and every song that Alynda sings.Such a beautiful voice.Keep growing and expanding.Thank You for the songs.
When the 'mainstream' pop music is an attractively packaged s..t of Walmart quality it is amazing that some people still make this kind of music. Or... maybe it is not that surprising.
Hurray For The Riff Raff's first few albums will be a tough act to follow IMHO; but if this video is any indication, they're about to take it to the next level with the new album. Can hardly wait!
love this song* And, I had the pleasure to be able to hear Alynda sing the 'St. Louis Blues" wow! hope aI can find a recording somewhere of that, and hoped she would sing it last night in da Lou.
Lead singer Alynda Segarra released a statement via Facebook on the song's meaning: "Hello friends, Sam Doores and I wrote this song in honor of a neighborhood called "St Roch" back in New Orleans, and for some friends who left this world too soon. But we also like to think of it as a prayer: for the city of new orleans, for those feeling desperate and down, for you and I to live together in peace. I hope it brings you comfort and strength. thank you for listening to our prayer. - Alynda" www.noladefender.com/content/hurray-riff-raff-releases-st-roch-blues-video
Wow. Just wow. The social consciousness she brings to her songs, and the fact that she's reaching into other cultural genres creates a real potential for her work to be impactful in a way I haven't seen since the sixties. It's what Dylan did, but he wasn't as good at arranging music as she appears to be. She has real potential, and god knows we need socially active music in this dark time.
I really like this band. I enjoy the mix of soul, R&B and everything. Great vocals and instruments. Transcendent. Looking forward to getting the new CD.
I had no idea the history behind Puerto Rico as far as America went until I listened to the Cool People who did cool stuff" podcast recently. And I have to say I'm ashamed to have been as ignorant of the crimes of my ancestors.

Thank you 5 YEARS AGO
It's not a song. It's a prayer.
The voice of a strong Puerto Rican woman can change the world one ear at a time.. Pa'lante
Still fuckin with this years later what a song bird 🕊️
I miss New Orleans.
Such an amazing, and beautiful city.
WARNING: That voice will make you melt!
I came for Black Jack Davy and stayed and subscribed for St Roch Blues, big thumbs up.
It takes a special kind of talent to make new music that sounds like it is a classic.
This song is one of the most beautiful slow songs out there. I can't get enough of this song, I just love it with all my heart.
This song makes me feel so nostalgic.
this is a river & its coming through, it doesn't need speed, as it is deep & wide 👍💖🎤🎸😎
Man. I am late to this wonderful world of Riff Raff and I couldn't be more sorry for it.

There must be somewhere in this whole world
There must be somewhere in this whole world
Cause I keep on trying, I keep on trying
I keep on trying, I keep on trying!
Bullets are flying from a young man’s hands
People are dying, no one understands
And I keep on crying, I keep on crying
I keep on crying, I keep on crying
Baby, please don't go
Down in New Orleans
Cause you don't know
The things that I've seen
Them bullets are flying
Bullets are flying
Bullets are flying
Bullets are flying
Got the St. Roch Blues
Down in my soul
I've seen so many
Of my good friends go
And it won't be long
It won't be long
It won't be long
It won't be long
Till I go
When I grow up I want to be this kind of music.
I just love this song. it is simply addicting.
Phenominal! I am thankful for Hooray For the Riff Raff.
this song still gets to straight to the core of me every time I hear it
I raise my glass to you, as long as it is in the St. Roch Tavern or Saturn Bar. I miss living and loving in New Orleans.

A thing of great beauty. Sparse, pure...Bravo!

My granddaughters agree with you. It's a blues thing.
Nancy Sandgren There are times for that. The end justifies the means. I think in country music its called the high and lonesome sound.
