- Like an even more sinister version of Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers movies, Donald Trump recently promised oil executives that he would kill environmental regulations - and get rid of electric vehicles - if they give him ONE BILLION DOLLARS. This is how politics works these days, but few politicians are bold enough to actually say it out loud like Trump did. But this could also be viewed as a form of either bribery or extortion, depending on how you look at it. Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

Hydrogen is a much better option, it works just like a gas engine, you fill up at a station, and its water vapor out of the tailpipe. There also isn't the stigma of the components of the EV. I think they just got bigger since a hydrogen car is just a normal car, they don't have the super acceleration the EV's have. I saw a Top Gear many years ago when James May went over the hydrogen stuff. I think Iceland has a big network of hydrogen stations.

I remember my high school auto tech teacher talking about that type of hydrogen cell you describe, and the big problem (according to him) was that an actual hydrogen explosion was too much combustion for a car to handle. (As a kid, I hoped these would eventually be a thing, with the ability to both separate the water and re-oxygenate it with only water as the exhaust, but alas...CURSE YOU NEWTON!!!)
The kind of "hydrogen vehicles' we now have are nothing but electric cars with a small battery and a hydrogen powered generator.
The biggest problem with these is getting the hydrogen. While it is the most abundant element in the universe, it's pretty rare in the pure form such vehicles need and extracting/manufacturing it is extremely cost prohibitive. Never mind the cost of setting up the infrastructure.
Electricity, on the other hand, already has a MASSIVE infrastructure. It's just a matter of increasing the capacity of it.
Trump can be bought for the highest bidder.
