Got myself a Nikon Z6. Was doing some portraits in low light (1/30 f2.5 iso3200) the camara has great colors. didnt even use the raw files I see no point on doing so
While I'm glad that Nikon finally released a truly compact full frame Z-mount lens, I feel like they could have come up with something a bit more...versatile. I'm sure that slow little 24-50 will be wonderfully sharp, but there's only so much you can do with those ranges. Thanks for the video!
Nikon has a great manual app (Nikon manual viewer) for Android and iOS, which Canon doesn't have (Canon does have something called 'Companion', which is a tips and tricks guide). It allows you to easily download and view manuals from all camera's, for new and old ones. You can browse and search. It's so handy to have it on your tablet or phone, especially if you have several camera's and you've forgotten how to adjust some setting lol.
Funny... you don't sound like I imagined ha ha ha... this was my first experience with one of your videos... I had sought your website for camera and lens advice over 10 years ago when I first got into the hobby... got out of the hobby and recently returned and have done it mirrorless with a Z5, a z 20mm 1.8 and a z 50mm 1.8... I will get it outside this weekend. Thanks!
What do you do with the bodies you don’t use or don’t like? Do you keep them ? Or sell them or return them? And the cameras you love, do you multiple of the same lenses and same bodies? Much love 💕
Ken can you please recommend a Nikon for me, I only ever use Nikon to shoot portraits I use a 50mm glued onto my d700 and it’s amazing but now it doesn’t read my CF cards anymore): Z6 mark ii worth the jump? Or even better d750/d800 d850 etc My only lens right now is the Nikon 50mm I also have a 50 manual and 105 mm manual from my dads old Nikon cameras and my favourite combo to use was 24mm + 85mm + 70-200mm What do I get to replace my d700? I’d get another d700 in a heartbeat but I would love to have video functionality Much love from Vancouver Canada 🍁 just need a new update to my d700 I want it to be full frame so this z5 isn’t for me but it looks wonderful 🥺🙏
Hey Ken, nice video. Its really nice camera, specially for people going from Dx to Fx, I wish Nikon had put 8-10 fps, 4.5 fps is quite low compared to what other manufacturers are giving. Any idea if they can bump fps up in the future with software update?
I doubt software will speed it up. Nikon has never added major features retroactively. I will be testing it soon and I expect it will become my new favorite Nikon above the Z7 and Z6 IIs.
Yes there has been. With working at home and lockdown zillions of people have finally been able to pursue hobbies for which they previously lacked time, while others have been able to take advantage of furloughs to step up to professional photography. Thanks!
Hey Ken, I remember you mentioning that the Z5 has better autofocus (I think in a comment on your Z6 ii unboxing). Why do think this is? I figured it’d be the same or worse because the Z6 ii has a BSI sensor and being their flagship🤷♂️
No. Only have a few I use, the rest go away just like everyone else. Of course I actually review whatever I unbox, look for explicit reviews at KenRockwell.com Thanks!
Would like your suggestions for setting up my new Z5. So many examples say set the camera for RAW. I am 73 and don't want to use RAW. Is there a link to your settings. Couldn't figure out how to use that NCSE thing in your review. Many thanks!
Here’s my Z5 guide www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/mirrorless/z5.htm#usage and see my guides for the other cameras which have much more detail that usually applies to the Z5
@@KenRockwellTV of course they can. Just for an iphone everything is in focus. Stop down your lens if this is what you are looking for. Do not buy an RP! That is a horrible camera.
Only concerns about this camera which I want to upgrade to from a D7200 are... is the 4.5fps good enough and does it matter not having the small info lcd screen on a mirrorless? I use the small screen all the time on my D7200 but I feel like on a mirrorless you would use the backscreen much more so it won’t makes as much diffirence, what do you think?
Hi! I never use the top LCD; it’s all on the rear or finder. 4.5 FPS good enough - for what? Z5 isn’t for action, and for everything else, it’s good enough. Thanks!
@@KenRockwellTV I am looking for FF camera to buy, but I will probably wait until pandemic "ends". Do you think that 24-105 is good? I really like my 16-80/4 fujifilm lens.

@@KenRockwellTV it’s a shame the long term quality of construction, materials and place of manufacturer are going down hill I suppose with the speed of technology it probably doesn’t matter as digital cameras will rarely be collectable (Nikon Df or Leica M9 being exceptions)

Z6 II AF is as bad as the Z7 and Z6. Haven’t tried the z5 yet. Probably just as bad; this is why I went to Canon.

Z5 or the xt3? What would you choose? For someone who does both photo and video? Or the canon RP? I did hear canon had bad video at that price range
I use video camera or iPhone for video. Interchangeable lens cameras like this can’t focus fast enough.

I do, but as soon as I get to shooting my Z5 I hope that changes. Z6 II is same as Z6, nothing really changed except for a new card slot.
