I remember seeing these beasts come into and out of Davis Monthan AFB a few times. One day I was out a few miles from the base and it took off right over us. I just kept thinking how does this thing stay airborne because it was flying at a crawl. I miss those days so much. As a kid my dad and I watched every launch and I've got a lot of the shuttle patches. Great memories
Love the Space Shuttle
Love this and the ATC!
You really pulled out all the stops for the STS-26 footage. Many thanks for this treasure trove of archive films from that mission.
Thanks Michelle, much appreciated

When I was a kid I saw this and I could not believe it was real. It amazed me greatly, a space ship over a plane, WHAT THE F***.
That is so cool 👍
This thing flew over my house in Edmonton Alberta. Made me drop my burger,
Ha! I’m sure it did
DID THE ATC SAY REMAIN OFF THE RUNWAY ? ? ?
That pilot had his lips puckered on that take off.
I saw this in Tucson in 1986 ? It was whatever shuttle was flying at the time, maybe Challenger ?
Columbia, Atlantis or Discovery if it was 1986 given the Challenger accident that Jan. Regardless, nice to see it in person!
@Shuttlesource I can't remember they opened up the Airforce base because it was coming in to be refuled on its way back to Florida .
NASA...Tower...You were not cleared for take-off...
If I remember, during these relocation flights I think they were 2 crew members, pilots in the Shuttle....
