I would listen to this while laying next to my husband who was going through stage 4 cancer. I only wanted to soak up every moment with him and forget the world. 12 years post stem cell transplant, he is still with me and we will celebrate 42 years in June. My Dad is an Army veteran. He was right there by my mom's side to care for her as she lost her battle with lung and brain cancer. They were married 52 years at the time my Mom crossed over to be with Jesus. Hard to believe it's been almost 7yrs since we lost my mom. Next year 2025 would make 60 yrs of marriage. My Dad will be 84 soon and is still going strong. God bless you!

Later he owned his own business, built half of the building in San Jose, CA., and lived a very comfortable life. He is my Hero.

i get chills down my body every time i hear this song because it reminds me of the saddest time in my life. People have gone through so much worse but i will still share. I was so depressed in quarter 3 of school. I was tired of getting rejected. I thought the world was against me. I cried everyday, listened to sad music and looked up depressing quotes. it got so bad i cut myself and no one asked about it. This made me think no one cared. i often though of the easiest ways to die. Then someone i will never forget. A friend that is so caring, loving, and sweet. I dont know what i would do without her. i cryed so hard writing this comment.
This song popped-up in my mind when my mother was hospitalized after a severe stroke. She could not move her arms, her legs, she could not swallow and barely talk. They only thing she could do was just lay there: “If I lay here, if I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world?”. A few days later she died of a pulmonary embolism.
Two months after that, my little boy had played with the radio and had probably turned on the timer/alarm function. Somewhere in the middle of the night I heard music playing. As I went downstairs in the dark to turn it off, I heard that same song again: “If I lay here, if I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world?”. I like to think that this was not a coincidence…

My great grandmother suffered a severe stroke when I was right at about 14 years old, it destroyed her and confined her to a wheel chair and unable to speak intelligibility. I was only able to get her to say "I love telephone" and she cried while saying it, she knew that it wasn't what she had meant. Thankfully, she passed peacefully in her sleep. It was sad to see such a strong willed woman lose all of her independence.

They each have a closer connection to God, becuase they were just with him, or will be soon, and it is real shame that we lose it throughout our lives. Why is it that I can't ever find this song with the lines "I need your grace to remind me to find my own"? It's my favorite part of this whole song. Is it only the 2007 version or something? Back in 2007 the company I’ve been working for the last 13 years was restructuring. This song reminds me of the good times we had and the eventualities of seeing my colleagues for the last time.
Although the only person I lost was my dad it's still very upsetting and it's really hard to keep the tears in.
Its the accent. I love Gary Lightbody's accent in every song he sings and you can hear it! Doesn't try to be american or conform to using a neutral accent but his own and that's what I love about Snow Patrol! also they're from my home country

lve not seen the music video yet but hearing the lyrics i get the image of a couple laying in the grass having a picnic, putting aside everything else, every burden, all the stress and weight on their shoulders, just to enjoy quality time together :)
