That bumper was moving, So had only just came off as the truck hit/swerved to avoid it, Truck driver panicked and swerved should of just taken the hitting of the bumper truck driver caused the wreck...would of not been a wreck if the truck had not swerved into the big rig.
I saw you guys on the 5 freeway near Montebello working on an Amazon trailer that was opened like a tuna can and packages falling out. Is that being made into a video? I'm curious to see what you guys did to clear it up.
@@zerocool278 Yeap. Pickup swerved into the semi. I can't tell where that bumper came from, but the car in front of the pickup didn't appear to have any issues getting around it, but they are hard to see. Shit happens. The pickup driver chose poorly in the moment. (I'd also note, I didn't see any brake lights.)
Without knowing much, I see a possible pick-up suddenly stopping and semi caught off guard and pushing the pick-up around and flipping onto it. 50/50 fault seems fair. Edit: I didn't notice the dashcam footage at the beginning.
If the pickup truck had run over the fender it could’ve caused him to wreck anyway or destroyed the undercarriage depending on how high the truck was. The driver of the pickup appeared to be at fault for swerving into the semi truck in their attempt to avoid the fender. I don’t know whose fender that was. It just appears to fall off a vehicle in front of the pickup. Kind of wild. I’m really glad everyone was okay.

Beautiful job, new subscriber. My Dad had a full service automotive service for years along with towing. I have great respect for you. Love your channel.
I was like "don't show us the fatality, please!" but it was part of the whole story. I appreciate that you were sensitive enough to not put it on God's help at all. @@PepesTowingService Thank you for your respect to the human victims and their familys. Much respect to you. It would be terrible to be a family member and watch that type of recovery.
Driver was lucky to be in a pickup truck. A smaller car may not have faired so well even with well designed crumple zones; that's a huge amount of load and force behind a semi at full speed. Great video! Thank for the upload!
Indeed, the world has become overly sensitive in recent times. People need safe spaces and cannot handle the truth, so the truth is no longer told or shown.
Wow. That really was a miracle he survived. I used to work for Mitsui OSK Lines as a traffic manager for the MOL vessel that came into Terminal Five at the Port of Seattle in the late 90’s / early 2000’s. I always loved going down to T5 and watch the cargo being loaded onto the vessel. There’s so much to it. When I first read the thumbnail I thought that the injured driver was crushed by the container. I’m so glad that everyone is safe. We lost a longshoreman when a 40ft container was dropped on him. It was bad. Y’all did another amazing job with this roll over.
If you're not 100% sure its safe to swerve, you have to take it on and stay committed. Regardless if there was a bumper on the road or any other object, the pickup driver is responsible for the crash. The damage from hitting the object would of been far less than swerving and hitting another vehicle. Great recovery guys!
@@AmericaisnowBetter Because the video shows that he is. The semi maintained his lane, the pickup did not. The mere fact that there was an object in the road does not give you a free pass to swerve and take someone else out. If the pickup driver was actually paying attention and was prepared, this whole collision could have been avoided. Also, if the semi driver saw this unfolding, he could have gone to the right and stayed away from the pickup. I drive semi and have to save the four wheelers almost every day from their own bad driving by giving them space to do dumb things.
This can go both ways. The truck could be at fault for swerving into a big rig. However the big rig could also be blamed for being one lane over then they are allowed to be in. No traffic ahead, no lane blocked. I was in a two lane highway and had no space to swerve, and just committed to hit it. Luckily only the grilled was damaged and the radiator was slightly bent but no leaks. Was able to make it home. So the lawyers will have a field on this one and playing the blame game. That my opinion.
@ So, the semi is prohibited from the left two lanes. Oh, ok. That does open up some room for legal argument. It doesn’t absolve the pickup but it does take some percentage of responsibility away from them I think.
That's actually LACoFD's backup rotator, and the first one ever the department purchased back in the early 00's. The current frontline piece is a 2018 Kenworth T880 with an NRC 65 Ton Sliding Rotator customized for USAR work. It has a detachable underlift which is stored at the station when not in use (which it rarely is). It responds out of USAR Station 103 in Pico Rivera.
PU driver was definitely not paying attention and got surprised by that dropped object and instead panicked at the last moment. There was a large enough gap in traffic in front of him that he should have seen whatever was in the roadway.
Pick up truck definitely panic swerved, but it's hard to say what you'd do in that situation. Not sure if that just came off the truck in front of it or it was already in the lane and was easy to spot from far back.
@@PepesTowingService The situation you see catch out a lot of drivers, is when you have two cars travelling close and the first one dodges a hazard, the second has no time to react. We'd need to watch this crash in slow motion to maybe see. The chunky pickup would surely have taken far less damage hitting the lost bumper.
Guardian Angels were watching out for the occupants of the Chevy Silverado pickup truck. A BIG THANK YOU to the LA FD for the rapid response time to minimize further injury or even for preventing a fatality. Ya they worked this one crazy fast. Granted it took a while for CHP to call me but they had that thing fully rigged, cribbed and guy almost out when I showed up
@@jdskefg8390 Correct, but to regular people or people not from here watching that gets confusing to differentiate. I know county has this NRC and the city has the Miller trucks
As always you never fail to show your amazing knowledge and skills on your videos, I absolutely love watching and learning how you handle extremely tough situations
It APPEARS that the pickup driver reacted to the bumper in the road being there ... the normal persons reactionary move to an obstacle in the lane is to swerve to the right (shoulder should normally be clear). Right hand side drivers will almost always react to this by turning to the right, left hand drivers (UK, etc.) will react to the left for the same reason. In this particular case the right hand side was not clear, but had a semi in it. I foresee a major fight between insurance companies as to who is ultimately "at fault". However, as is routinely true, the semi driver will take the hit, if history has any relevance. Great video! As you stated so often, YOU don't show fatals, or major trauma, so I was amazed at first glance why you posted this. Glad it was true, and all survived albeit with only minor injuries! Brightest of New Year Blessings to you, your families, and the crew(s) out there including FD for a great job of stabilization and rescue!
Josh, Alex, Ricardo and everyone at Pepe's, Happy New Years 2025 from Hawaii🎉🎉🎉 God bless you, your families and for the awesome work you do. We love watching you guys❤ Be safe out there.
Was going to say watching the footage looked like the pickup tried to dodge a bumper on the ground and just unluckily clipped the corner of the semi, spun in front, etc to the end point... But the video breakdown at the end went into that anyway. Glad to see everyone was okay in the end, and good job with the recovery!
The truck driver was at fault because he was in the wrong lane in California trucks are only allowed in the two right lanes he was in a lane he wasn't supposed to be in.
AWESOME video!! LOVE the barrel roll, it's super cool to watch. It will never cease to amaze me how people will come out of the most mangled vehicles with little or even no injuries sometimes. Someone's guardian angel was working overtime this day for sure. You, Alex and Ricardo did an excellent job on this one. Happy New Year and stay safe out there!!
Shout out to the truck driver for avoiding the power lines. I think that would have been the worst of his reactions if he took out the pole trying to avoid the truck any more than he did. Great recovery work and footage, guys!
The biggest thing about this wreck is that the driver of the pickup survived and is fine, the most important part. The pickup can be replaced...human life cannot.
Was even more wild in person! Despite so many people on scene it was cool how in sync everything was to get the all the different jobs done super smooth
As always great job. Love the way you explain in detail every move before or as you are making them. Happy New year, stay safe and as always, thanks for posting.
The guy driving the pickup needs to find out what purpose God has for him. This was obviously a miracle! Also regarding the "at fault" vehicle, I'm going with the pickup. I also know a driver's first reaction is to swerve right especially if a retainer wall is on your left. So many people drive at these speeds without being aware of their surroundings. I constantly check my mirrors to know who's beside me & behind me. Great job Pepe's Towing!
Ya know Josh, as terrible as this looks and how bad the outcome could have been, it just wasn’t the driver of the pickup’s time to go. It’s just amazing. Great work.
..............G'day Josh, love the reviews at the end of the video Man. That dash-cam was epic. Here in the Australian bush we have animals, mostly kangaroos that dive onto the road when startled, that's why I have a "bull-bar" and had trained myself not to swerve. Love your work brother, I'm 83yo and still riding. (but no bull-bar on the scooter, aim for the gap LOUD and Visible, defensive training should be mandatory!.) Cheers and God bless, Malcolm.
Josh, look forward to the future. I know my son uses OBS to stream on Twitch. There are problems but oftentimes it's a restart of OBS. This was an amazing job. Like you said it is amazing that no one was fatally injured. What was the pop and snap of that yellow chain (forget the name you use for them)?? I love this channel, I'm trying to watch every single video you've posted over the years because they are all soooo good and each one is unique. Great job Pepe's crew (Josh, Alex, Ricardo, etc). Your videos are amazing and show your ability to work this software you use!! Thanks for the video, happy new year from Denver.
How does he like it and are there alternatives? When I research something I go hard in it lol so I haven't started yet, just know OBS is popular and works with a green screen. That pop was just the chain correcting itself. The chain is fed through the link and tightens when under pressure. And hell ya that's awesome, I have LOTS of videos lol. I have playlists too if you want to start that way
Masterful rescue, as always- the production value is masterful too. Great shots, drone, always in focus. Less equipment selecting, instead, describing it rigged up- really keeps the pace up, like you did. Cutting pickup to protect lines is good detail too. Outstanding job!! Happy New Year to Pepe's and to all First Responders!! And the debris match color of asphalt, but knowing swerve will cause wreck, need to brake and swerve toward median. Trucker might have honked and pointed to debris- but not his job or fault.😃
Jamie Davis of Highway Thru Hell fame, visited the LAFD and went through the history of heavy rescue trucks in the LAFD. The first time they realized a heavy truck was needed was during the 94 Northridge Earthquake. You can see the clip on youtube "Evolution of Heavy Recovery - Highway Thru Hell - S06 EP14"
Seems the pickup swerved to dodge a bumper on the road and veered into the Semi. Glad both survived. 1) Always be aware who’s next to you and what spaces you have. 2) It’s better to hit whatever debris on the road than cause a chain reaction accident. Be safe everyone.
Based on what I saw, I would hesitate to assign blame. There are a lot of factors which might be hidden from a dash cam. The recovery was great, as always. I noticed the use of chains and wondered why they were used. As always, thanks for the video your work is appreciated greatly. I hope the new year provides new opportunities, and PEPE's folks, the viewers and all have a safe and prosperous new year.
AS an ex Tow driver 1970s San Jose area, this was an excellent recovery. and a helluva lot of work! Those Rotators are a brilliant idea, and tool!. My only comment, no Diss, was when the big rig was lifted off the pickup truck, and being slowly uprighted in air.....how come a small rig was not already in position to then quickly winch/or drag..... the pickup truck right away from the cab of the big rig...there by giving plenty of room and access for the Rotator crews to have one less item to worry about? .02 worth,, excellent video!.
They are also a lot safer than steel, synthetic shoots down when it breaks rather than catapult in any direction and becoming a flying missile. Synthetic is also alot lighter meaning it's easier to pull out of the drum for the operator
@@MrJake50025 I learned that lesson when I was 10 years old, when a drag line snapped 3 feet over my head, I shouldn't have been so close! You do have to be careful with nylon though, when it slips it gets hot and melts. (Ask the people that do tug of war).
Josh , Alex and Recardo another perfect roll over recovery . Josh why does Calif not allow synthetic cable for the winches ??? . Synthetic line is much easier to use Can't believe how lucky that trapped driver was !!!
@lifeasReno so just because of that technicality, it makes it the truckers fault the Silverado driver didn't look far ahead for any obstructions in the road to move out the way earlier?
Comments are about as decisive as I knew they'd be. So who's really at fault and why?
That bumper was moving, So had only just came off as the truck hit/swerved to avoid it, Truck driver panicked and swerved should of just taken the hitting of the bumper truck driver caused the wreck...would of not been a wreck if the truck had not swerved into the big rig.

Josh, Alex Ricardo, y’all did an awesome job. I was wondering who’s fault it was but it was nice seeing you. I hadn’t seen you since last year.🎉🎉
Guardian Angels were watching out for the occupants of the Chevy Silverado pickup truck. A BIG THANK YOU to the LA FD for the rapid response time to minimize further injury or even for preventing a fatality. As ALWAYS, I THANK Josh, Alex & the crew for putting out these great videos for folks like me who struggle with chronic pain at night and cannot get much sleep. So these videos are my escape from the reality of my grueling debilitating painful days and nights. Stay safe, and may the Good Lord always watch over you and keep you safe.
Another GREAT JOB by these guys. They are truly professionals.
Josh Alex and Ricardo great job, the fire department did an excellent job rescuing the driver and passenger! Truly professional on all sides! Thanks for sharing! Happy New Year to all of the Pepe’s family! Kevin
Ya they worked this one crazy fast. Granted it took a while for CHP to call me but they had that thing fully rigged, cribbed and guy almost out when I showed up
That’s pretty cool the LAFD has rotators. They can arrive quickly and stabilize the wreck so the firemen can extract the victims
That was LACoFD
@@jdskefg8390 Correct, but to regular people or people not from here watching that gets confusing to differentiate. I know county has this NRC and the city has the Miller trucks
@@PepesTowingService yessir. I was just saying it’s cool a Fire Dpt of a major city has this capability. I didn’t mean to misspeak Co vs City
As always you never fail to show your amazing knowledge and skills on your videos, I absolutely love watching and learning how you handle extremely tough situations
That's what I love to hear, thanks for watching!
Cool channel, bravo colleagues !
Hard work
Happy new year everyone
Thanks! Happy new year

A SUPER HAPPY NEW YEAR to Josh, Alex, Ricardo and the whole Pepe's crew! That was a really clean rescue!
Happy new year as well and god bless !
Happy New Years. Glad FF driver survived. Another great job by Pepe's Towing. !!!
Fantastic video, Josh, Alex and Ricardo. Ricardo is an added bonus with his battalion chief training. Stay safe out there, guys.
@@lifeasRenoDidn’t know that.
Barrel rolls are so cool and fun to do. And ya for real, imagine if it landed a foot more up? Could have been soooo much worse for the driver.
Shout out to the truck driver for avoiding the power lines. I think that would have been the worst of his reactions if he took out the pole trying to avoid the truck any more than he did. Great recovery work and footage, guys!
WOW! Thani you for the summary and explanation at the end of the video!! God Bless you and Keep you Safe!!
The biggest thing about this wreck is that the driver of the pickup survived and is fine, the most important part. The pickup can be replaced...human life cannot.
u can just have more babies. human life replaced
Pepe
Awesome video! I kept thinking if the
vehicles were 50 feet more off the road...worry about those high voltage
lines.😮
I specialize in high voltage lines
Well done. You are well spoken and understand how to put us into the loop. Great video.
Thanks for the ride along. God Bless. Stay Safe. Happy New Years
Keep up with the good work love watching your videos on RUclips God bless an happy new year from new Zealand
Hey thanks for watching all the way form New Zealand!!
Respect to Pepe’s crew always professional and communication between the group is always outstanding. Happy New Year!!!
Love the videos. I’m learning so much about rigging. Appreciate it🤙🏾
happy new years. You guys never stop, and it is amazing. Teaching a whole nation about this stuff.
Its a good sign that he's okay Bro another day at the job, PEACE OUT THE AMAZING DUO 👏
Buenas tardes, un buen trabajo, gracias a Dios , no fue muy grave, saludos, Josh, Alex, equipo, ❤👍💪👏👌🖐️🇪🇦
That video was a wild ride from the start.
Was even more wild in person! Despite so many people on scene it was cool how in sync everything was to get the all the different jobs done super smooth
Real good video, you are going to get a lot more containers, shipping is changing.
Another GREAT video. It’s very cool the dash cam was available. SO pleased to hear everyone was ok.
As always great job. Love the way you explain in detail every move before or as you are making them. Happy New year, stay safe and as always, thanks for posting.
well done sir ive been watching enough to know you ARE AN expert in heavy rescue
Impressive to see that La County FD has their own rotator! Nice,
❤❤❤❤that was a textbook flip, you made it look so easy thanks for the content.
Happy New Year to all at PEPES...Great reacovery guys.....Hope the folk are ok....Stay safe and see you soon
Your channel is great. Keep up the good work.
Man that cab survived pretty good and it didn’t even want to give up to the sawzall blade 😂😂😂😂 that’s a truck commercial right there 😂👍🏻👊🏼🎥🎥🎥
That was a crazy mash up of events. Nice to see the what happened video.
As always Pepe's gets it done. It's a pleasure to see Josh back on the highways. Have a great 2025!!❤❤❤
Happy new year to you and your family and all who works for your company
Ya know Josh, as terrible as this looks and how bad the outcome could have been, it just wasn’t the driver of the pickup’s time to go. It’s just amazing. Great work.
Incredible that the guy got out of there. Great job guys. 👍
Thank you for your work. Great training videos for new operators. Stay safe!
Very impressive! You guys are so talented! Amazing all that can be done with rotators! Good teamwork. Good Communication. Good job 👍 👍💪🙌🏅
Happy New Year. That was sweet work as usual. Vehicle engineering is amazing.
..............G'day Josh,
love the reviews at the end of the video Man. That dash-cam was epic. Here in the Australian bush we have animals, mostly kangaroos that dive onto the road when startled, that's why I have a "bull-bar" and had trained myself not to swerve. Love your work brother, I'm 83yo and still riding. (but no bull-bar on the scooter, aim for the gap LOUD and Visible, defensive training should be mandatory!.)
Cheers and God bless,
Malcolm.
Amazing work by all. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
Dashcam back up the driver story, another awesome video Happy new Pepe
Like always the CALTRANS guys just chilling 😅
our tax dollars hard at work gtfoh
I have playlists too if you want to start that way
Those container drivers are nuts ! Speeding, weaving in & out of traffic.
Very impressive! You guys are so talented! Amazing all that can be done with rotators! Good job 👍 👍💪🙌🏅
As usual, great job by the Pepe's crew. Stay safe. The people in the pickup truck better believe in God.
Long Beach fire pro's on scene too. Thanks for posting.
Yes, as I mentioned their focus is on rescue, extraction and emergencies. Cool history !
Seems the pickup swerved to dodge a bumper on the road and veered into the Semi. Glad both survived. 1) Always be aware who’s next to you and what spaces you have. 2) It’s better to hit whatever debris on the road than cause a chain reaction accident. Be safe everyone.
I can already see the Pennysaver. "Se vende, one slightly used pickup; low mileage, needs TLC. No lowballs!"
Pretty impressive by the tow truck crew! 👏
Never seen anything like this before. That’s nuts.!!
Appreciate the videos and Good Job on the recovery.
Agreed!
I'm always amazed how you always know what to do. I'm sure there's no school to go to.
I love what you are doing mat and I love you trucks
AS an ex Tow driver 1970s San Jose area, this was an excellent recovery. and a helluva lot of work! Those Rotators are a brilliant idea, and tool!. My only comment, no Diss, was when the big rig was lifted off the pickup truck, and being slowly uprighted in air.....how come a small rig was not already in position to then quickly winch/or drag..... the pickup truck right away from the cab of the big rig...there by giving plenty of room and access for the Rotator crews to have one less item to worry about? .02 worth,, excellent video!.
Great job Josh, Alex and Riccardo
So glad there was no fatality. God was watching over that man. 28:22
" that'll work too"...Epic
Great job fellas, that passenger is one lucky dude.
Agreed. It all might have been diffrent if the light truck did not attempt to avoid the object in the lane.
What’s the reason why you can’t have synthetic line on the winches for CHP calls ?
Why do people want synthetic line? Just because it;s something new??
They are also a lot safer than steel, synthetic shoots down when it breaks rather than catapult in any direction and becoming a flying missile. Synthetic is also alot lighter meaning it's easier to pull out of the drum for the operator
Watch Casey ladelle he has swapped his dtu over to synthetic and explained why he uses it instead of steel
@@MrJake50025 I learned that lesson when I was 10 years old, when a drag line snapped 3 feet over my head, I shouldn't have been so close! You do have to be careful with nylon though, when it slips it gets hot and melts. (Ask the people that do tug of war).
Y’all need to play basketball. That was a sweet pick and roll. Happy New Year
Good Afternoon Josh & Alex
pretty dope to see the video on tiktok couple days ago just to see the recovery on youtube DOPE!!
Many professionals, excellent results. 😊
Great job @Pepes
It was nice to see the car, that was behind the pickup, immediately pull over to render assistance.
THANK YOU !
Josh , Alex and Recardo another perfect roll over recovery . Josh why does Calif not allow synthetic cable for the winches ??? . Synthetic line is much easier to use
Can't believe how lucky that trapped driver was !!!
probably precived liability and safety margins. but really no good reason
probably because they have chemicals "known to California" to cause cancer. total BS
Happy New Year Josh Alex and family ❤from Western Massachusetts
You already know all the blame will be put on the trucker
You probably ride in te left lane also making people pass on the right you must drive for swifty
Truck drivers in California are only allowed to drive in a right two lanes the trucker was in the wrong lane
@lifeasReno so just because of that technicality, it makes it the truckers fault the Silverado driver didn't look far ahead for any obstructions in the road to move out the way earlier?
