I don't disagree with the sentiment. But I think the more likely and simpler answer is they are cutting costs by not prioritizing optimization. 1. The new gen graphics and textures are for a fact demanding. 2. They can save money by not creating a team that can look for ways to optimize and save space. Which they would then have to pay. (And they would likely be paying overtime as they would likely just reuse members from other departments. Especially since optimization has to happen alongside development in order to ensure the game code works and that the optimization doesn't break the game.) The reason stated by the original poster is more likely to be an after thought. The primary motivating reason is probably just to save time and money by cutting the cost of optimization. In the grand scheme of the development cycle, it might not sound like cutting costs for an optimization team would save a lot of money. You know, compared to the total cost. But it definitely saves a notable amount of money that could end up in a few individual pockets. Or end up in one individual's pocket

@@nrg6245The code isn't what takes space, as it could easily be measured in MB's or even KB's. The storage-intensive parts are the textures. They're basically just images, and if they use different textures for every object, and those objects need to be very high resolution to look sharp at very close distances with stuff like 4k or even 8k monitors, then they're going to be huge files.
It's not 310GB, that only if you have the entire CoD HQ installed. That's the HQ, Plus MW2, MW3, Warzone, and BO6. And given you can choose which content packs you install, pretty sure if you only installed BO6 it'll be way, way smaller.
They only want you playing call of duty. Can't play anything else if you waste all your money on Nikki Minaj skins, and the battle pass. If that doesn't work they made sure you won't have enough space to install anything else

Graphics are a cheap excuse for programmers who can't properly code a game to run smoothly. And the kill cam is one of the most demanding things in the game files... it's so useless.
Since Black ops 6 is part of the COD HQ it means that it won't be 310 gigabytes. All of those come from the full installs of Warzone MW2 and MW3, the real size for Black ops 6 will be revealed closer to launch.

Playing multiplayer then pressing warzone, and it had to launch the mw2019 app for warzone, took time to load up, and then eventually there was 2 vanguard apps, one was warzone the other was multiplayer, same shit. Now you can play multiplayer, the guys hop on warzone invite you, and you join in a matter of seconds. Its so much more clean, both visually and usability

Graphics are a cheap excuse for programmers who can't properly code a game to run smoothly. And the kill cam is one of the most demanding things in the game files... it's so useless.
Since Black ops 6 is part of the COD HQ it means that it won't be 310 gigabytes. All of those come from the full installs of Warzone MW2 and MW3, the real size for Black ops 6 will be revealed closer to launch.

It's literally only 95gb! 😂 Some people are so dumb thinking that a single game is 310gb. It's 310gb for 3 game (mwil, mwill, and bo6), warzone, and dmz (20 gb because it's pretty much just the entirety of warzone 2 (movement, maps, etc.) compressed into 1 game mode). You just need to delete what you won't play and it'll be like 100-150 or something.

As a developer myself, 300GB just tells me how little effort was actually put into the game. They just threw everything in together, with a bit of glue and hoped it will work.
It's not actually going to be 300 GB. 300 GB is the total if you have Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, and Warzone download as well. It's an estimate.

Yeah "durr texture quality" is just an excuse, those textures shouldnt be that big if properly compressed, although its hard to tell the polygon count from the trailer that should also not be hard to compress.

Dont know if you played warzone back in the day, but if you did, remember how weird and shitty it felt once not only cold war, but vanguard came out? Playing multiplayer then pressing warzone, and it had to launch the mw2019 app for warzone, took time to load up, and then eventually there was 2 vanguard apps, one was warzone the other was multiplayer, same shit. Now you can play multiplayer, the guys hop on warzone invite you, and you join in a matter of seconds. Its so much more clean, both visually and usability
