I used to catch the 101 from the Pentagon to Maidstone some 40 odd years ago, maybe more.. At 10:30 I was expecting the bus to carry on straight, go up the ramp slope and onto the Pentagon.. I was kinda surprised to see it turn right into the Chatham Waterfront Bus Station. Even though I live in Gillingham, I've not been into Chatham for years, certainly not been on a bus for almost 20 years.. I'd get lost around Chatham now.. dont like change much, especially passing through Gillingham Town centre and seeing so many places closed, pubs knocked down... So pleased I had the best days, when the high street was packed, people went out shopping every day, businesses were booming.. hate online shopping grrrre
There's something that I have noticed when the bus is travelling along a road in a residential area or a well built up area - and that is that you can often tell when the bus is going to turn left or right and that can sometimes be when you have a particularly large T-Junction....in otherwords it's intended for use by bigger vehicles such as a bus or a lorry. But, obviously not all the time sometimes you can have villages such as in Angus or North East Fife where the streets are very narrow and old and it takes a lot of skill and patience by the bus driver. So, be sure and thank the driver for his efforts when you get off the bus because these guys and girls do a fantastic job all things considered.
Thank you for this; as a bus driver myself that turn into the estate; its due to people getting lazy and won’t walk to the main road - where buses used to operate now they want deckers especially to funnel through narrow streets and councils won’t encourage considerate parking. Car drivers chance it or park badly knowing its a bus route.
