  • This week’s The Mill is previewing Scythe: Encounters, the fan-created Encounter Card collection. I show off a few of the new cards, maybe, possibly get threatened on camera and make a proposal for considering the source of the cards before judging their merit.
Of the Encounter Card's shown, which one are you hoping to draw first and what option are you going with?
As always, let me know if there is anything you want to see talked about on the show. Comments, Questions and Suggestions are welcome in the comments. Thanks for watching. If you enjoy the videos make sure you like, subscribe and hit the bell to make sure you’re notified when new episodes arrive.
    Thanks! Dusty.

I was a little nervous at first from your reaction because I'm the one that submitted that punch the boat line. But you were really awesome about it and that made me feel much better.
I actually was pretty similar to you when thinking of design elements, making them like the already existing formula (pay x to get y) but with a bit of a stretch (the new objective card). The other two built up to the 3rd option which I just went wild with the flavor, I saw a person standing ready with this smiling boat coming at them, what would be the most badass thing for them to do?
The other choices are pretty powerful so they may be the better options in the long run ;) Thanks again for your preview and thoughts about the cards. I look forward to seeing more of your videos!!

Ah A.C. My new nemesis. lol. Nah, there was never any hard feelings. I think Jamey picked some great cards that are going to be a lot of fun to play. And honestly, punch the airship in the face was a really funny choice. And most definitely badass. I'm glad you liked the preview, and thank you for the kind words. Congratulations too, by the way. :)

Really looking forward to that Encounter pack even though my submission was not picked by Jamey. The contest was not too long after his Red Rising Sunday Sitdown so I threw in a small red rising reference in my encounter design thinking he might enjoy the Easter Egg. I was wrong, still not good enough. :)

Charles Dionne I was joking with Jamey and told this story about researching the cards. He said "yours were pretty good. I should have used one. I just liked the other ones more. Plus punch the airship in the face made me laugh." 😂 ouch! What was your red rising reference? Do you remember?

There was a card that had some animals (wolves?) in the background and the flavor text was something to the effect of hiding in carcasses or using pels to ambush the enemy. I was reading the first book at the time and got inspired by Sevro's tricks. :) Like you though my choices were probably too close to the original encounter cards.

These are 100% different than the promo encounter cards, yes? I assume the numbering picks up in the 40s?

You are correct. 100% different. The numbering starts with card 43.

Those seem a little overpowered, but I'm still new.

You're not wrong, Robert. Some are pretty overpowered, in my opinion. They feel sort of bombastic to me. I don't like them in a game where people want to be competitive and serious, but I do enjoy them when you're just looking to have some fun and see what kind of fun you can get into via those encounters. They do add some really cool moments and mechanics via some of the cards too. I like them, I just wouldn't use them in The Rise of Fenris. Just in my opinion. I know folks have though, and I think it was hit and miss. Some really enjoy it though. I think it probably depends most on your group.
