  • According to the website Defesa Aerea Naval, on November 26, 2020, the Brazilian navy reclassified the Atlântico A140 landing platform helicopter ship as a multipurpose aircraft carrier under the name of NAM Atlântico. The ship is now able to operate with fixed-wing medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicles as well as crewed tiltrotor VTOL aircraft.
    Despite its new name, the ship did not have the characteristics to be considered an aircraft carrier, such as catapult or ski-jump takeoff systems.
    NAM Atlântico has a displacement of 21,500 tons, length 203.4 m (667 ft), beam is 35 m (115 ft), and draft is 6.5 m (21 ft).

    Indonesia or Malaysia or Philippines should used this type of ship since those countries had a lot of island to cover and protect. It can be used as FOB.

      the san giorgio class helicopter carrier would be the best choice for those countries . operational cost of that ship is comparable to the makassar class and the tarlac class . but with a larger flight deck

    We all know the British won't sell it for such a low price. There's something that the brits know that no one else knows :)
    Better go check the ship, Or do some kind of Examination on how effective it is.
    The British might be selling their stuff at a low price but those stuff can't challenge the British navy's own stuff meaning you'll get to control how good your opponents are at sea.....

      @keith moore Maybe they're going to use it to test the waters of conflict so to speak, better to not get your most expensive asset destroyed until battle experience is gained? Just looking at the shape it's sides appear to be taller, could be more difficult for smaller attack vessels to board and take over? I'm also guessing it may have a large radar signature and no use to the royal navy?

      @keith moore could be an indication that F35b might need a longer deck for the amount of ordanants it going to carry, extra weight needing the forward airspeed?

      @jamescunliffe9872 3 года назад

      @keith moore my best guess is Chinese fishing boats as the seas around China are depleted + rice fields in major flooding

      @keith moore harrier should have been upgraded instead as it is a lot more manuverable in every axis, f35 is just a daft what seems like an unnecessary transformer, looks like someone left the toilet seat of radar contemplation up! Lol at best it's barely capable of just going up and down, it should be equipped with cockpit elevator music!!!=/

    I was wondering if a ship like this Could have been offed to New Zealand for the right price. Even a new one , given Their military budget . We'll my line of thought was. Given the current climate. Within the south China sea and sounding areas. Why not offer it to an Allie. That has fought and died for England,. At least it would have given 3 flatops down here even if it was not mtilitary speck . This ship might have been able to do subs hunting , humanity support around the Pacific islands nations etc, well it was a thought.

    Considering the ship only cost 139 million when new not a bad deal for both country's. And also keep in mind it was mostly built to commercial standards.

      Not bad deal? The British are selling their stuff for cheap prices but those stuff can't challenge British navy's own stuff meaning you get to control your opponents capability at sea

      If Brazil gets the F 35B the flight deck will have to be upgraded.

      At todays rates the British purchase price is now 400 million, plus 2 years before selling, it had a 64 million pounds refit. I think it was a very bad deal for the Brits!

    Couldn't they modified to carry the short range Gripens.

    • @binaway
      @binaway 2 года назад +1

      No. A tail hook would tear an air-frame apart. The Gripen just wasn't designed form carrier operations and this ships flight deck isn't strong enough.
