I actually work with the same problem and I have same configuration, D4 + Easy. Ext thermostat is in the mail and will arrive tomorrow so currently i run without thermostat. So far it seems to me you have made wiring correct. My EasyStart is spooky. I have to press right arrow then ok to "wake" it up. Then it start. Pressing left arrow then ok and it will stop. I'll let you know any progress / problem. I think my easystart may be faulty. You did try to break the 5amp fuse as this makes EasyStart know what Eber it is working with ?
Yes I try the fuse and it still will not talk to the ext thermostat, it’s just not easy to get this to work, I would love to know how you get on when your ext thermostat arrives and if you also get it to work successfully. I do wish you all the best with this and anything that you find when installing it will be greatly appreciated. I will let you know also of any new developments
I also have an Aquastar 38 and fitted that heater two years ago. I later fitted the Eberspacher thermostat and had no trouble following the diagram. I will be at the boat over the weekend and will look out the diagram for you if you wish.
Ok, here’s how mine is wired (and it works!). The cable from the heater has the following colours: yellow; white/red; blue/purple; blue, and these are not used. Remaining colours are brown/white; grey/red; grey; blue/white; red; brown. Red is +ve, brown is -ve (supplied from heater). Grey connects to white of temp sensor, brown/white and grey/red are connected together and then to brown of temp sensor. The Easystart Select controller blue/white wire connects to the blue/white from the heater, the red connects to the red and the brown to the brown. The grey/black wire is not used. Hope that helps.
